Big and Small

"Wah!"

Do you remember towards the end of the last chapter when I said that Tamara had fallen asleep?

Well, disregard that.

After my baby sister went to sleep, my parents took her away and to her new room that was just down the hall from where mine was. They put her in her crib and made sure that everything that she wanted was in that crib. Her toys, her pacifier, and her blanket.

My parents came back to my room. They tucked me in and kissed me goodnight, and I hugged on Slappy and Snappy. As soon as my mom and dad closed my bedroom door and walked off, the brothers came to life once again. I felt their wooden arms wrapping themselves around my waist, their hands gently pressing against my stomach.

I lifted my head and kissed the tops of their wooden heads, and then let my head hit the pillow.

Today was a short but exciting day. And tomorrow was going to go even faster and be just as exciting.

Tomorrow was my birthday. I expected cake, presents, and other glorious things. And seeing that my birthday was not on a school day that year, I wanted to do something fun, and I knew the activities that my parents, Slappy, Snappy, and my new sister would partake in.

First, we would go to the movies and watch the second Goosebumps movie on the big screen. Then, we would head to my favorite Mexican restaurant. Lastly, I would "force" my dad to go to Barnes & Noble - he does not like going to any bookstore - and we could stop for ice cream on the way home.

I sighed and glared at my bookshelf. On the top of the bookshelf were all of my Goosebumps books that I collected. I squinted through the darkness and spotted a Goosebumps book that was lying on its side. It was not stacked neatly like the others, and that was because Slappy, Snappy, and I were reading that one. We started the book the other night.

It was 'Welcome To Horrorland: A Survival Guide.'

I glanced up at the ceiling. Going to the movies, my favorite restaurant, the bookstore, and the ice cream parlor sounded awesome. But in my heart, I knew that was what I did not desire.

I desired Horrorland.

I really wanted to go to that theme park. Some of you readers may think that I was crazy for desiring something that was the opposite of amusement. I cannot explain why I had a desire to go to Horrorland. Why not Hogwarts? Why not Bikini Bottom?

Truth be told, I do not really care for Harry Potter, so Hogwarts is not appealing to me. As for Bikini Bottom, I would like to go there and see SpongeBob and his friends. I love SpongeBob.

But Horrorland...Horrorland sounded interesting. The Horrors who work there are both scary and funny, and the monsters who stay there for a certain amount of time or live there are intriguing.

I blew away a strand of hair as I was deep in my thoughts.

If only Horrorland were real.

"Wah!"

Oh, no.

I covered my ears. Tamara was awake now.

And she was not happy.

I took a look at my alarm clock to see what time it was and groaned.

It was after eleven o'clock. Almost midnight.

I heard heavy footsteps pattering down the hallway and passing my room. The footsteps must have belonged to my mom and dad.

I let out a yawn and noticed that the puppets were wide awake as well.

"What the heck is all that noise?!" Slappy exclaimed angrily as he and his brother covered their ears too.

I sat up. "It is Tamara," I told them. "She is crying."

"Why is she crying?!" Snappy proclaimed. "I thought that you put her to sleep!"

"I did. She must have had a nightmare or needs something." I tossed back the covers, making sure that they did not hit my friends, and got out of bed.

"Where are you going?" Slappy and Snappy both demanded.

"I am going to check on Tamara. The sooner we find out why she is upset, the sooner she will calm down and go back to sleep, and we can all have a good night's sleep." I was about to leave, when Snappy grabbed my hand.

"Promise me and my brother that you will be back."

I nodded and kissed their noses. "I promise."

Snappy let go of my hand, and I opened my door and left the room. I walked down the hall and soon found myself in my sister's room.

Tamara's room was gorgeous. The floor was painted dark blue, and so were the walls. The walls also had white stars that were all drawn by hand. On the floor was toy after toy, and there was a station by the corner where you can change her diapers.

In the middle of the room were the purple crib, my parents, and my baby sister. My dad held her, while my mom tried comforting her.

"Shh," my mom whispered to her. "It is okay. You are safe."

But it was no use. Tamara ignored her and continued crying.

"Baby girl..." my dad said as he let her put her little head on his shoulder and patted her back.

Tamara did not stop the waterworks.

Until she saw me.

She instantly stopped crying and cooed softly. She held out her arms and had her little hands in gripping positions, wanting to touch me.

"Shelly!" my sister said my name.

My mom noticed that I was in the room and turned to me. "Shelly?" she questioned. "What are you doing here?"

I shrugged. "I wanted to see if I can calm Tamara," I answered.

My dad and mom looked at each other.

"Shelly!" Tamara exclaimed, louder this time.

"Okay, okay," my dad said. He handed her to me, and I held her.

A smile spread across the baby's face, and she placed her hands on my chest.

"Shelly..."
