Chapter Seven
"Guess who's back and better than ever?" Ariana said walking inside Melanie's house.
Melanie put up a weird smile while she walked towards Ariana to hug her. "Hey," she said, and grabbed her hand, walking towards her couch in order to sit and talk with her old friend.
"Guess what?" Ariana said, excited. "What?" Melanie asked, with a hint of curiosity. Ariana rolled her eyes and responded, "No, guess!"
This time, Melanie rolled her eyes, "Is it something about—," "CODY LIKES ME!" Ariana interrupted, screaming and scaring Melanie in the process.
Melanie, scared, yet confused at the same time, asked, "What do you mean?" "I mean, Cody-freaking-Henderson likes me! A girl from school, who I kept contact with, told me that a friend of her cousin, who also studies there, told her best friend and then that girl told her boyfriend, the guy then told my friend, her name's Kristen by the way, that Cody has a crush on one of his best friends."
When Ariana finished, she was out of breath and Melanie, even though she understood, she was confused in one small part.
"One of his best friends? Have you kept contact with him, by any chance? I mean, he doesn't talk that much about you," Melanie said, Ariana frowned. "Who else could it be, rather than me? I'm perfect for him and he's perfect for me," she said, smiling.
"Hahaha, yeah, true," Melanie said, trying to act as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Anyway, what is up girl? We haven't talked in like two weeks! Update me with news from your current babe, your current phone, and like, your favorite song at the moment! Mine is Let me take a Selfie, by the way," Ariana said, with a those-types-of-girls kind of accent.
"Uh, well," Melanie started, "I currently have a red iPhone 5c, my favorite song at the moment is Daughter by Youth, and-currently-I-don't-have-a-boyfriend-but-I-kissed-Cody-and-I-think-he-likes-me-but-I'm-really-confused-about-my-feelings-I'm-sorry," Melanie said, tried to control her breath and then asked, "How's the weather in Canada?"
Ariana, dumbfounded, laughed. "What?" she asked, "Uh, the weather's nice sometimes and really cold in other days."
"Oh, cool," Melanie said, still out of breath, but smiled because she avoided the kissing-Cody-kill-me-Ariana theme by—
"So, when did you kiss Cody?" Ariana interrupted Melanie's thoughts. Melanie's face flushed, and she suddenly felt her mouth go dry.
"Uh, w-we, on, it was on Monday," she said, "But, I-I'm really confused about-about my feelings towards h-him—please don't kill me!" "Why would I kill you, you're like one of my best friends for life and death, I mean, girl, you are my Starbucks buddy," Ariana giggled, she was taking the information in a calm way, it was strange.
Melanie, with a small frown formed in her face, asked her, "So, you're all right with the fact that we kissed?" "Yeah, I mean, he totally loves me, so that's why he kissed you," she responded. "Why does that have to do with him loving you?" "I mean, he loves me, but I was not here, so he tried to get over me, but since I'm back now, we will end up marrying and having three kids, Ashley, Matthew and Mark," "Wow, that's a whole future you have there," Melanie said, confused and a bit creeped-out.
"Anyway, it's Saturday, I just got here, you apparently have not gone to school because you're sick," Ariana said, which was actually true, because even though Melanie faked her sickness at first, she managed to get a real cold. She had gone to throw the garbage and it was raining, plus she couldn't see a thing because of the rain so she spent five minutes trying to find the trash can.
Grabbing an umbrella would have been a great idea, yet it didn't come to Melanie's mind until after she was soaking wet.
"Yeah, but I feel better now, want to go somewhere?" "Sure," Ariana responded. "All right, let me change these sweatpants for some jeans and we will go to the mall," "Yay! Shopping time!" Melanie giggled at Ariana's reaction before saying, "I'll be down in a minute."
Once Melanie changed into a black jean that matched her hoodie, she grabbed her phone, car keys, house keys, wallet and shoulder purse, she walked downstairs while putting away her stuff in the shoulder purse. "I'm ready, let's go," Melanie said, "Let's get some Starbucks first, please?" Ariana pleaded, and celebrated once Melanie agreed.
At the mall, they threw their empty Starbucks cups into a nearby trash can, and walked to the first store in front of them, Urban Outfitters. Ariana went towards the dresses area, while Melanie looked for a jacket. "I like this one. Should I try it on?" Ariana asked Melanie when she found a red dress with two triangle cuts on the waist.
Melanie gave her a smile, "I love it, go try it on." Ariana smiled back and went to the changing room. Melanie walked towards the couch outside the changing rooms, to wait for her friend. "I love it! Aaah!" Ariana said, excited, as she walked towards Melanie. She laughed and gave Ariana a smile and a thumbs up.
"Well, I have my dress, for when Cody asks me to our first date," "Girl, you're obsessed," Melanie said and chuckled afterwards. "I am not!" "You are!" "All right, maybe a little," Ariana said and they both laughed.
They walked up to the counter and Ariana paid for her dress, and Melanie for a black beanie that had a single golden line at its border. Once they grabbed their stuff, they walked towards Victoria Secret.
They had a rather unpleasant surprise once they got there, though. Imagine this from Ariana's point of view, you walk into a store and see your crush with one of your friends buying underwear. Now, Melanie's point of view, you walk into a store and see the guy who supposedly has a crush on you, and that kissed you four days ago buying lingerie with a girl you just established a friendship with.
"We should go," Ariana whispered to Melanie, "No, let's stay, he's neither your nor my boyfriend. Why should we act like more?" Melanie said.
They walked around the store, picking up some underwear, sweatpants and lotions once in a while. They saw something pretty strange, though. Kristen, who was the girl that was with Cody, got into a changing room and apparently Cody waited for her to come out.
"If she comes out with only underwear, that would be embarrassing and—Oh! Thank God, she was just trying on some sweatpants," Melanie said, relieved. "We should go get something to eat. Are you hungry?" Ariana asked, "Starving, let's go," Melanie responded.
"Hey, by the way, I'm paying," Ariana said. Melanie laughed and nodded, next time, she was paying.
Once they were sitting down with their food, they ate and talked about life.
"So, were you jealous of Kristen being with Cody at Victoria Secret?" Melanie asked, "Actually, yes, but just a bit," Ariana responded, a bit of blush coming up to her cheeks. "You, on the other hand, looked jealous as heck," Ariana said, Melanie almost spit out her food, but she tried to swallow so she wouldn't make a mess.
"I was not jealous!" Melanie exclaimed. Ariana smirked, and then let out a small giggle.
Outisde Victoria Secret, Cody walked with Kristen by his side, they had chosen to go to that store by Kristen's request. She wanted a boy's perspective in order to look a bit more sexy for her next date. Which she wanted to have planned before someone had actually asked her out.
"So, did you enjoy that?" Kristen asked Cody, "I don't know what to say, we just met and we are already going lingerie shopping," he responded. Kristen laughed.
"Hey, look," she started, Cody turned his head where she was pointing, "That's Melanie, your love bird." "Sure, she hasn't even talked to me this whole week," he said, Kristen noticed his sudden sadness and an idea came to her mind.
"I'm hungry, let's go buy something and then we can sit with your love bird," she said, practically dragging him towards the food court already.
"Hey, Melanie, and... Ariana!" Kristen said, finally recognizing her old friend and bending down to hug her. Cody stood there, quite awkwardly, looking at the floor, while he took sudden interest in the way the tiles were placed.
"Hey, Cody. Remember me?" Ariana said, standing up, Cody slightly smiled, "Of course I do, how are you?" He asked. She smiled, "I'm doing well, now, I think you two should join us."
"We are, I'm just going to get us some food. Cody, what do you want, I'm paying," Kristen said, moving her wallet from side to side, he just chuckled. "I just want a bottle with water, please?" "All right, bottle with water will be."
"I have no more refreshment, I'm going to get more," Ariana said, walking towards the counter, leaving Cody and Melanie by themselves.
"So, I'm going to be straightforward here. What are we?" Cody asked, roles have switched, the boy now asked the girl. Melanie blushed, "I need some time, not that I don't want to be with you, I just can't have another relationship just like that."
Cody nodded, "Well then, I totally understand. Friends in the meanwhile?"
Melanie giggled, "Best friends."

So?
Cody and Melanie, friends in the meanwhile? Ariana went all cool with the news, right?
