Sticky stars
When she opened her eyes, she saw stars.
But that didn't make sense. She was in her bed, wasn't she?
As her eyes adjusted to the lack of light, she saw that the stars were fake, plastic glow-in-the-dark things pasted to the ceiling. She turned her head slightly and saw the artificial glow of the clock. 1:59. She closed her eyes again.
When she opened her eyes, the stars were gone.
The sun shone in too brightly and the stars were struggling to compete. She glanced at the clock. 6:21. Why was the sun so bright so early in the day?
She groaned and rolled from her bed. She clicked the light on and stumbled to her closet, pulling out her clothes for the day.
She stumbled down the stairs and started the coffee pot. It was some strange coffee she'd received from her sister at Christmas the previous year, but she hadn't drank any of it before, the bag falling behind a table and only being found again in the move.
She poured the coffee into a travel mug, also a gift from her sister. It had some strange bird caricature thing on it.
She pulled herself into the car slowly, resting her forehead on the wheel carefully. If this was a cheesy movie, she would have just banged her head on the horn, making a bucketfull of racket. No one wants to annoy the neighbors just after moving in.
Her phone dinged in the cupholder. She glanced at it and sighed. She didn't want to do that, not now, not now. She rolled her eyes and quickly redirected the car.
Searching, searching. She knew they weren't going to find anything, not in this little town. There was nothing remarkable about this town. It was boring, horribly normal.
The sun was rising as she drove through town, the purples and oranges streaking across the sky like a painting. She pulled out sunglasses to block the glowing orange sunlight. It was blinding. She glanced at the time and turned around once more.
She drove to the school, following the speed limit exactly. No one wants a ticket just after moving to town. The streets were quiet at 7 in the morning. 7:45 was too early for school to start.
She yawned. Sleeping in an unknown place takes getting used to. The early sunrise didn't exactly help. Now that her eyes were used to it, however, it was a pleasant brightness. The sun was at a strange spot in the sky and was glowing orange.
She pulled into a parking spot, grabbed her bag, and walked into the school. It wasn't where she wanted to be, but she didn't suppose she had a choice. She reached down and adjusted her shoe. It was rubbing against her heel and would probably blister by the end of the day.
The fluorescent lights were foreboding. She closed her eyes for just a brief moment, cherishing the darkness before heading into the classroom.
Authors notes!
Short (450 words) little guy I wrote a little while ago. I was kind of hoping it might turn into a full story but I got busy and then I lost interest but we have this guy!
