Q&A / answers

Hello hello hello I'm here to answer the questions.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU THE MOST?

Lots of things! I get very inspired by different types of media, books, movies, shows, etcetera, but I think life also inspires me quite a bit. Sometimes I'll be doing something completely random, like holding water in my mouth and making myself look like a chipmunk and I'll think "that would be a fun description to write." That happens fairly often. The other day I thought "Pigeons and squirrels are the same" and wrote a whole thing about it.

I get inspired by art, too. I adore museums and get a lot of ideas there. Not even exclusively art museums-any will do.

FAVORITE/COMFORT SHOW?

Probably Bluey because it's Bluey. I don't think that needs any more explanation.

Another show I love is The Mysterious Benedict Society. My family watches it all together and it's so wonderful. It's funny and smart and the COLORS are just amazing.

My dad and I are also watching Stranger Things (only one episode left!) and I'm really liking that. The Mandolorian is also something that's comforting, partially just because of Grogu.

COMFORT CHARACTERS?

Richard Gansey the third, my forever love. Nick Nelson. Steve Harrington. Hermione Granger. Sophie Foster. There are a bunch more, but I feel like these are characters I would love to hug and be friends with and I relate to them in large amounts.

FAVORITE OC?

Good question. I love Gray Logan, who I made for blythering's ECSTASY, one of my favorite applyfics ever. Gray is my little baby and I love how Lydia writes him. I also love this little guy named Winston who has no story (yet) because he's also a cinnamon roll whose best friend is his grandpa.

And then I'm working on Ajax Starr, narcissist, controller, rock star. I love him already.

FAVORITE DRAWING/ART PIECE?

This is hard. But also not.

Giraffes in suits #1 is my favorite for sure. It's so silly and fun and I had a fun time making it.

FAVORITE PAIR OF SHOES?

I got a pair of platform low top red Converse for my birthday and I love them sosososososo much they are so fantastic and so me it's amazing.

FAVORITE PIECE OF CLOTHING?

I love my COIN RainbowDreamland tour shirt. That's probably my favorite. It's black and white with a rainbow and says COIN in blue.

FAVORITE PLANT?

Cacti, but I also have a plant called a Veronica that I have kept alive since May which is the longest I have kept a plant alive and I love her.

FAVORITE SONG TO SING ALONG TO?

Raven, this is a fantastic question because I sing along to so many songs I've never put much thought into it before. I think probably Wannabe by the Spice Girls or Hard Times by Paramore.

FAVORITE ARTIST?

I love Monet so much. Just everything. He's amazing.

I also like VanGogh, especially the sunflower painting. I think I just really love color and crazy colors.

FAVORITE BIRD?

Owls? I don't really know. I like Red Tailed Hawks. Birds aren't my favorite animal, but they're very cool.

FAVORITE GENRE?

I like a lot of genres, but historical fiction is the one I find myself coming back to the most often. The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley was my favorite book for many many years and was probably what got me into the genre.

I love WW2 stories and books set in that time period. I always have.

WRITING PROCESS?

Get an idea, write it down. I usually start with characters and build out from there, creating bits of plot around it.

I have tons of Google Docs with half-formed ideas. I try to make myself write about 1k words/a chapter a week to be consistent and keep myself on track. I like stories with multiple storylines and winding them together.

A lot of the time I have three separate docs: one with the story, one with the plot, and one with the characters. This helps me stay organized.

PLOT CREATION PROCESS?

Honestly, the plot is the hardest part for me. A lot of it I get at night laying in bed. I try to remember the important parts and I put everything in order on a doc in the morning. The first stage has very little detail. Sometimes there are whole chunks missing. Some of it I come up with as I get to writing it. It really depends on me and the story.

I find talking to people about the plot is very helpful, running things past them. Asking for ideas. It's okay to ask for ideas!

 CHARACTER CREATION PROCESS?

I usually start with a name. That feels like the base. Sometimes I have one in mind, sometimes I use a name generator.

I usually then go with a sort of master doc that has spots for all base information. Description, personality, backstory. It's a lot like an applyfic form. Then I go in with the little things, the habits, things no one else knows. The little silly specifics. I try to get in their head. Sometimes I draw them.

Then I stick them in their story and see if it works. Sometimes it doesn't! Then I fix things with the story or the character and make them fit.

FAVORITE COLOR?

Greyish purple, like a lilac color.

FAVORITE BOOK?

Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. It's insane. I can't even explain it because it's that insane. It's the level of writing I strive for.

FAVORITE FOOD?

I love fruit. It's between nashi (asian/apple pears) nectarines, and apple pie.

FAVORITE PASTA

I like the grooves in Rigatoni. That's my favorite. I like the texture the best.

FAVORITE SEASON?

For a long time it was fall, but it just switched to spring. I don't know why. Maybe I'm more of a green girlie than an orange pumpkin spice girlie. I just like spring.

Thanks for all the great questions this was very fun and made me think about a lot of things I maybe haven't thought a lot about. It was fun to actually think about things like what my favorite song to sing is or actually go in depth more about my writing process.
