But it was too late.
By the time Cynthia Rose was about to tell Kieran and Esperanza how to get out, her hologram had completely gone.
Kieran screamed to himself, cursing really loudly as to why the heck that happened, whilst Esperanza just stared at him blankly instead, not really saying anything yet because she didn't feel as though it was necessary for her to.
"Cynthia was legitimately so close to telling us how to get out! Why did her hologram have to leave!!"
"Kieran," Esperanza told him sternly, after removing the sellotape from her mouth. "First of all. Never sellotape my mouth. Ever again. And secondly. Cynthia Rose cannot help us! Understand?!"
"Just because of some stupid rule book Dr Kozak made for us?" Kieran asked her, which was when Esperanza nodded, slamming a book from her bag on Kieran's hand unexpectedly.
"Yes! This book is really important. He gave it to us when he first told us about Diana Valentine, remember?"
Kieran shook his head. He did not remember Dr Kozak giving any type of book to him.
"Esperanza, Dr Kozak spelt your name wrong."
Esperanza and Kieran looked down at the book that Dr Kozak had written and given to Esperanza, who had also written her name incorrectly with Dr Kozak's handwriting.
Espernza. Sorry I'm right handed.
Then another handwritten message from Dr Kozak proceeded that.
Obviously there was a massive gap between Esperanza's incorrect spelling of her name, and everything else Dr Kozak had written, at least once he realised that he had spelt Esperanza's name wrong anyway.
"Anyway," Esperanza told Kieran, seriously looking at him now. "Go to page 777."
"How many pages are there?" Kieran wanted to know, flicking open the book to page 777.
"A thousand."
"A thousand?! Why does Dr Kozak need to make up a thousand rules for the mission?"
Esperanza did a massive face palm, but then again, she didn't really make it clear.
"No. Some rules are in more detail than others. Anyway, read what Dr Kozak wrote."
"It's really tiny. I can't."
"Well, try!" Esperanza hollered at him. So Kieran did.
"....and that's why Cynthia Rose can't help us. Remember that Dr Kozak is tracking us down. Any questions?"
Kieran nodded, raising his hand immediately.
"What?"
"Did Doctor Kozak hand write this whole book?!"
Esperanza didn't know how to reply. Some parts of the book were typed, some weren't.
"There's really no answer to that Kieran. I think Doctor Kozak hand wrote the really really important rules and typed the less significant ones."
"Well that's kind of stupid. So the really important rules are hard to read because of Dr Kozak's handwriting and the not as significant ones aren't? This doctor is crazy."
Esperanza just shrugged, murmuring beats me but not actually saying anything else.
Kieran was about to return Esperanza's rule book that Dr Kozak had apparently given her, when all of a sudden he noticed something at the front.
"Dr Kozak's middle name is Forrester?"
Esperanza nodded, not saying anything else. Instead she looked up, where as soon as she saw the way out, gasped.
"Oh my gosh, Kieran!" Esperanza screamed. "I literally just found the way out! Just go up the stairs and find your way out. It was that simple this whole time!"
Kieran and Esperanza were bickering for a while over who should go up first because there was a ginormous ladder, and since Esperanza rang the doorbell, Kieran had to go up the ladder first.
Reluctantly, Kieran went up, opening the door really steadily, looking back at Esperanza.
"Is that the way out?"
Kieran shook his head.
"No. Thanks for getting our hopes up for nothing, 'Ranza."
Esperanza groaned, although as she was about to go down the ladder, Kieran laughed out loud at her, telling her that he was just messing with her on her birthday and that that was the real, genuine way out.
"Perfect!"
Kieran deliberately went up the stairs as if he was a ninety year old that had lost one of his legs- in other words he moved
r e a l l y s l o w l y....
....much to Esperanza's irritation.
"Ugh. Kieran, we really haven't got enough time for this!" She reminded him, which was when Kieran decided to go up faster.
Like, three percent faster.
Kieran was also considering slamming the door on Esperanza, but wasn't that malevolent, even though he practically trampled on her and slapped her not too long ago on her birthday, claiming that those two were her birthday "presents" from him.
"Yes!" Esperanza shouted, as soon as Kieran and her were out of the so called basement and into some sort of other room.
"Maybe this mission isn't going to be so hard after all!"
Although once Esperanza said that, of course, Kieran and her just had to fall into another booby trap set by the one and only Diana Valentine.
This once was probably even way worse than the welcome doormat one.
Why?
Because with this booby trap, both Kieran and Esperanza were hanging upside down from the ceiling, trapped in some sort of net.
"Thanks a lot, Esperanza, you just had to jinx it once again, didn't you!"
On the bright side, Kieran and Esperanza weren't in the same net.
Or was that a bright side?
Kieran actually wasn't a hundred percent sure.
Esperanza was arguing really loudly with Kieran until a man walked past, then stopped, and entered the room once he saw them.
"Uhm.... You guys okay? Seems kinda... Claustrophobic in there."
Kieran and Same Difference stopped arguing, mainly to look at the person that was just talking.
It was hard to see them, really, through the booby trap, however they seemed to be wearing all black, as in, a black tuxedo, a black bow tie, black hair, black freckles and just black, everything, really.
"Who are you?" Kieran asked the man standing there, who was just leaning back on the door, eating some pink candy floss.
"I'm the guy that voiced the doorbell not too long ago."
Kieran gasped whilst Same Difference looked at him as though she was in love, even if she was upside down.
"You guys look surprised. I told you that I was a real person. Did you guys think that the doorbell had a voice of its own?"
"Well, Dr Kozak kind of has a computer that speaks to him, so yeah..." Esperanza told him, where the guy voicing the doorbell, whose name was still unknown, just laughed.
"Hang on. You guys are Kieran and Esperanza aren't you?"
"Yes!" Esperanza answered, before Kieran had the chance to say anything. "What's your name, pretty boy?"
Except she didn't say the pretty boy bit, obviously.
She was just thinking it.
Even if she did want to say it out loud, she didn't.
She didn't believe in love at first sight, but dang. This guy was cute.
Sadly, Esperanza was the kind of person who had focused more on outer beauty instead of inner, which was wrong because.
Well.
Someone could have been pretty but rude, or not as pretty but nice instead. Esperanza believed that she had focused more on outer beauty as it was easier to see, but it was really because she was kind of quick to judge others.
Yeah, the phrase 'looks are deceiving' weren't very applicable to her.
Clearly.
This guy looked nice but was he?
Only his personality could tell.
"Martinez," was all the guy just standing there was bothered to say back.
"That is the most beautiful boys' name I've ever heard in my entire life," Esperanza lied, squealing internally as Martinez came closer to her.
"Thanks?" Martinez chuckled a bit, not saying anything else. "I'm also Cynthia Rose's brother."
Kieran was confused for a while.
A long, long while.
Kieran: I thought that Diana killed all Cynthia's brothers.
Martinez: Well, Cynthia Rose obviously forgot about me.
Esperanza: *completely lovestruck by now* Can Cynthia and I trade brothers?
Martinez: *ignores Esperanza, says this to Kieran* is she always this crazy?
Kieran just shrugged in return.
Martinez: Hey. I heard that it was your birthday today, Esperanza. Well, happy birthday.
Esperanza didn't say anything. She couldn't without sounding stupid anyway.
Martinez was also willing to help the two of them out and was halfway there... that was until his mother unprecedentedly stopped him halfway.
"Martinez! What on Earth do you think you're doing?!"
Martinez turned around, and dropped his candy floss instantaneously. He had passed the kitchen on the way there, and for some reason, they had two of them and not just one instead.
"Oh hey, mum, just...."
Martinez didn't really know what to say though.
He couldn't really say anything anyway because his mother had already had a lecture at him before completely dragging Martinez outside.
"No! Martinez. Come back. Don't leave. Text me."
"I don't have a phone, Esperanza." Martinez echoed, his mother still twisting his ear and dragging him. "Cynthia Rose accidentally flushed it down the toilet yesterday."
When Martinez was gone for good, making Esperanza want to cry, that was when Diana Valentine came back inside, locking the door on them.
"So. You two idiots that work for Dr Kozak have entered my booby trap..."
"What do you want from us?" Kieran hollered, screaming his life out. "Honestly, Diana! We didn't do anything."
"Silence. You two little Neanderthals don't stand a chance getting that trophy."
Diana didn't say anything else, because just then, she set some sort of alarm she found oddly in the background.
"This is a one hour countdown timer. It's how long you two little imbeciles have got to get that 125th trophy back. If you're still here when the timer ends, you die."
And with saying that, well, Diana was off for good.
"Wow she's even uglier than I thought," Esperanza said to Kieran. "Which I don't understand because Martinez. Is. So. Handsome."
Kieran didn't say anything, and neither did Esperanza, mainly because Kieran was thinking something.
"Hey. I have an idea," this was coming from Esperanza again. "Why don't we call Dr Kozak? He said we should let him know when we're in trouble. We're in trouble right now, aren't we?"
Kieran became annoyed as soon as he had heard Dr Kozak's name, but didn't say anything.
Except maybe 'do not call Dr Kozak', 'I swear, Esperanza, don't call him', 'if you don't want to die today on your birthday Esperanza then I suggest you don't call Dr Kozak' but it was too late.
Esperanza had already typed Dr Kozak's name on her hologram watch.
And moments later, well, she was talking to Dr Kozak.
Which Kieran was very very very annoyed about.
Why?
Because Dr Kozak didn't want to speak to them because they had irresponsibly gotten lost.
He didn't even want to help them if they were in trouble. He just genuinely didn't want to speak to them at all, no doubt about that.

Moral of chapter: Diana Valentine knows every trick in the book. Don't get on her bad side. Just don't. You'll regret it.
