Chapter 8- What On Earth Is She Doing Here?

The chances of Kieran embarrassing himself in public compared to not was about ninety seven percent to about three.
As soon as Kieran and his family headed inside of the church chapel, Kieran took a deep breath like he did before the ice hockey tryouts began, however this time way more tired than before.
Plus Kieran knew that the consequences for messing up his stepfather's wedding compared to messing up in ice hockey was more extreme. So he didn't even bother thinking about it.
His stepfather insisted that he should spread the flower petals before the wedding began, to "save time" apparently, although as soon as Kieran was about to do that his stepfather stopped him almost right in front of the chapel.
It was too late to change anything hence why the wedding was today. The weather changed last minute too, there was no reason for Anthony to choose a wedding day where it was going to rain.
"Whoa whoa whoa." His stepfather had reached the church entrance doors before him, making Kieran almost stare at him in confusion.
"Kieran. Where are you going?"
Kieran just raised an eyebrow at him in return. "You told me to do what I have to do now, didn't you?"
His stepfather looked at him, and Kieran did the same back. Their staring really only lasted for about two minutes but from Kieran's perspective it felt like forever.
"Kieran. Do. Not. Mess. This. Up. Okay? I mean it."
Kieran nodded vigorously. He made a pinky promise to his stepfather that he wouldn't mess anything up, although his stepfather wasn't a hundred percent convinced.
So as a result of that, he came closer to Kieran's face, squeezing his face and lifting Kieran up until his feet fully couldn't reach the ground anymore.
"Kieran. I seriously mean it. Do not freaking mess this up. Understand me?"
Kieran couldn't talk or breathe, his stepfather had lifted him way above the ground. After nodding for about fifty times, his stepfather eventually put him down and then went off to find himself his new wife.
Kieran couldn't do this.
However, he could, but he was scared he was going to mess up, despite the fact that he had just made a commitment to his stepfather telling him that he wasn't going to do that.
Secondly, this was his first ever wedding where he was actually doing something, not just to watch the bride and groom kiss each other for about sixty seconds straight.
He opened the chapel door, before closing it again, staring down at his tuxedo and brushing some imaginary dust off.
After mentally arguing with himself for precisely two minutes, Kieran opened the door and spread the flower petals all over the aisle.
Things were going quite well for a while; unluckily that didn't last throughout, or for the entire thing.
About halfway walking through the aisle, Kieran looked up. He had been looking down for the entire thing, and now was probably one of the worse times to look up.
Why?
Because, for some reason, his love of his life, Vanessa was there.
She just had to come in at the wrong times!
Kieran couldn't help but stare. He kept on walking and doing what he was supposed to be doing, luckily, however he couldn't stop staring at Vanessa.
She was just too beautiful for his liking. And what she was currently wearing described that as well.
She was wearing jeans, as well as a yellow crop top and massive gold hoop earrings.
Her hair looked mesmerising as always, she looked at bit over the top with make up but for some reason, that didn't ruin her gorgeous image.
Honesty, I've got to stop having a massive crush on her, Kieran thought to himself, walking down the aisle. I have no idea what's she's doing here but every time I see her my heart melts and I always freeze. She's just too good looking.
But he didn't say that out loud, of course. That would have been bizarre, even for him.
The worst part wasn't thinking about Vanessa and walking down the aisle at the same time. The worst part was that when Kieran reached towards the end of the aisle, his gaze was still technically focused on Vanessa, making him not look at where he was going and fall backwards unexpectedly.
The flower petals had landed right on top of his head, and he was now a laughing stock in front of everyone.
Annoyingly, Kieran dragged himself right out of the chapel, and as he was moving, he stopped because a towering figure was right in front of him.
He tried moving to the right, the figure did the same. He tried moving to the left, the figure did the same.
Soon after, as there was practically nothing else to do, Kieran looked up. After that he gulped, as his stepfather stared at him, as a result of messing everything up.
Craziest bit?
It was all because of an attractive girl.
His stepfather dragged Kieran to one side, and Kieran could feel his ear coming out at the sight of Anthony pulling it way too hard.
Before Kieran knew it, his stepfather and him were in the gents' toilet, everyone looking at him blankly as his stepfather practically had a vent at him.
"You had one job, Kieran!" He echoed, for the whole of the church to hear, throwing his hands up in frustration. "Must you mess everything up? Jesus!"
Kieran didn't reply, he couldn't anyway because his stepfather had kicked him out of the bathroom as he went over to the other side of the chapel to start the wedding properly.
Kieran hated himself, his life, his face, everything that had belonged to him, really.
He sat at the front of the chapel in silence as everyone kept on cheering where his stepfather and his new stepmother walked across the aisle.
Thirty minutes later, and the vicar stopped talking, finally.
"Now Anthony," the vicar said, clearing his throat, and facing Kieran's stepfather. "Do you take-"
"I do." He interrupted.
"I haven't finished yet. Do you take Katherine as your newly beloved wife-"
"I do," he interrupted again, checking his watch in anger, mainly at what Kieran did.
Curse Kieran's stupid infatuation for a girl that he knew was never ever going to like him back.
Kieran hadn't heard the rest of what the vicar had said, mainly because people kept on talking in the background.
"...till death do you part?"
"For the last time," Kieran's stepfather hissed, slightly outraged. "I do."
The vicar rolled his eyes as he turned to face Kieran's stepmother to be.
"And, do you, Katherine, take Anthony as your beloved husband, and agree to love and cherish him forever, till death do you guys apart?"
Kieran's new mother didn't reply for a while, making everyone glare at her, shocked and surprised.
He was an orphan, but in his mother's will she said that Kieran should have lived with his stepfather when she died. She died of cancer, and his biological father died before she did - of a very severe brain haemorrhage.
His stepfather was honestly worried when Katherine didn't reply, however when she smiled, he felt relieved.
"Man... You already know I do, baby!"
Anthony kept Katherine a secret, not because he didn't think anyone would approve, but because he didn't know how they would have reacted. The children knew of her but they had never met her.
"Then with all that said, you may now kiss the bride!" The vicar announced, walking off of the stage, looking rather worn out.
Cheering, clapping and whooping went on straight after that.
The two of them were kissing non stop for two minutes it seemed, and they didn't even listen when the vicar had to break them apart.
"Okay, guys, you can stop kissing now."
They didn't listen.
"Guys?"
Still kissing going on.
The vicar broke them apart, yelling guys for the third time, before announcing once again that they were husband and wife, plus they were cutting the cake in the other room.
Kieran, still upset with himself, headed out of the aisle last, that was until someone surprisingly held him back.
They cleared their throat.
"Kieran?"
Kieran looked up , down, and around him three times, but had no idea where this voice was coming from.
The person giggled, cutely.
"I'm right behind you, silly," the person told him. That was when Kieran looked around, and once he found out who it was, he almost couldn't believe his eyes.
It was Vanessa!
Not just any girl, that had no meaning to Kieran.
His biggest crush, Vanessa, was talking to him for the first ever time.
