Was it humanly possible or mainstream for Kieran to have been petrified of the ice hockey rink and the people there before the game had even begun?
As Kieran went in, he felt a heavy weight on his shoulders as people kept on looking at him intently, and sniggering at him behind his back.
He was going to turn back, and he did, he couldn't face his fears.
He really couldn't do this anymore.
Heading outside of the ice hockey rink, Kieran pushed the door when it said pull, and once he finally realised his mistake, he went outside.
Frantically looking for Clyde everywhere, he soon became livid once he figured out that Clyde had gone without him, breaking the promise, breaking the promise about him being there whenever Kieran needed him.
He was clearly wrong! Kieran thought angrily, sitting down on the chairs in front of the rink.
He wanted to go back inside again, trying to ignore what it was that people thought about him, but didn't, although what had happened next had completely changed his mind.
Out of nowhere, like in television or cartoons, his conscience angel and devil came up to the scene, the angel on his right shoulder whilst the devil was on his left.
"Kieran. Kieran, listen: it doesn't matter what they think about you. You're amazing. Don't let anyone say otherwise."
Kieran wasn't so sure about that. So as a result of that, he shrugged his shoulders in disbelief, before rolling his eyes again.
"Don't listen to that angel! He's wrong, Kieran. Wrong. You're useless, like you've always said you were, right? You've always been useless, and that will never change."
Kieran agreed, but didn't say anything because he knew that people would think he was weird if they caught him talking to himself.
"Kieran. Ignore the devil. He's only there to bring you down. God made you a special person, and like I said. Don't let anyone say otherwise. You're beautiful. You're talented. You're amazing. The trouble is, you compare yourself to others too much, and this changes everything."
"Kieran, you're stupid."
"Kieran..."
"Kieran, you can't do anything right. You might as well just give up!"
"No! Don't you know about the sanctity of life? That only God can give and take away life. Don't hurt yourself because of what the devil says."
Kieran was fed up now. He made up his final decision.
"I'm sorry, devil but the angel is right. I must face my fears someday. It's either now or never."
And with that, both of his consciences went away like magic, as Kieran triumphantly headed inside again.
Problem was, Kieran couldn't ice skate. So why he was trying out for ice hockey, nobody knew why.
He had been ice skating before, seven times, actually, however failed all of the time.
He wanted to turn back for the second time but couldn't, as he was heading for the door, the ice hockey coach came towards the door before him, blowing his whistle in front of Kieran's face.
"Kid, ya can't leave. Once you're in here, you can't get out until the game is over."
Kieran rolled his eyes again in disbelief. Once the coach had blown his whistle the second time, that was when the game started, and for real this time.
For some reason, something miraculous happened.
Kieran was actually ice skating. And no, he wasn't falling down, wasn't making a complete fool of himself. No.
For the first time in forever, Kieran was actually doing this!
About fifteen minutes out of twenty into the ice hockey game, the results were seventeen to fourteen, Kieran's team losing, although luckily by not that many points.
They only needed four points to win against the other team, and each time there was a goal, the goal was worth four points.
The reason it was seventeen points to the other team instead of eighteen was because there were three two minute rounds of ice hockey all together, and the other team had scored when the timer for the second match being over had gone off.... so everyone debated for about five minutes whether they had deserved a full two points or not.
In the end, the coach had just given them one point as he was tired of arguing and arguing was seriously becoming a waste of time.
Time was ticking really quickly. Before Kieran knew it, thirty seconds were left until the game was over completely, and before Kieran knew it again, the hockey puck in which they used to play the game with had headed in Kieran's direction.
"What?" He whispered to the person next to him. "What do I do with this?"
"Pass it to someone!" The guy whispered back, frantically waving his arms up and down, signalling that Kieran should pass it to him.
Unfortunately for Kieran, his spotlight didn't really last for long. This was because as he was about to pass it to someone, he caught sight of Vanessa in the background, and literally couldn't stop staring at her.
Her face was so mesmerising.
Kieran kept on saying that to himself, and soon after, he started daydreaming about her all over again.
He couldn't stop thinking about her.
He wouldn't stop thinking about her, she was just too beautiful to forget about.
She whipped her hair, however Kieran's daydream made it so that it happened in slow motion, which made Vanessa even more endearing than she was supposed to be.
Harps and angels in Kieran's daydream filled the background. Kieran must have been staring at her for too long, because by the time he had stopped helplessly daydreaming about Vanessa, the game was over completely, and everyone on Kieran's team was ticked off as well.
Groans and screaming filled the background this time around. Worst of all, it was all targeted towards Kieran.
"Guys, I'm sorry. I mean. It's just a game right?" Kieran stuttered because he was petrified of what they were going to say.
"Yeah. A game that was really important, and now we can't get into the team now because you have just messed everything up."
Kieran was pushed to the side by a few team members, and then everyone was out of sight.
All except the ice hockey coach of course, who was staring at Kieran spitefully, giving Kieran one of the dirtiest looks in the world.
"I really thought we had it, kid. But you messed everything up. Thanks a lot, Kieran."
Then he was out as well.
Kieran got up, feeling really angry at himself, before opening the door and then closing it again.
It was somewhat amazing on how like liking a girl could get Kieran to do such stupid things.
As soon as Kieran went back outside after the game was over, he caught Clyde coming towards him and Kieran stared at him intently, and also in slight indignation as to why on Earth Clyde thought it would have been a good idea to leave him.
Clyde clapped continuously in Kieran's face, only making him even more annoyed than last time.
"Bravo, bravo," he said sarcastically. "What are you planning to ruin, I mean revolutionise next?"
There was a vexed response to that.
"Oh, so now you show up?" Kieran practically yelled at him, removing his ice hockey helmet and throwing it across the floor, making a loud sound as well.
"When I needed you the most, you weren't there, and now that the whole world is practically ticked off at me, you show up? What kind of friend are you Clyde? You completely broke our commitment."
Clyde bit his lip guiltily, then stared at the food in front of him.
"I'm sorry, Kieran. I went to go and get ice cream."
Kieran's next response was to scream at the top of his lungs at Clyde.
"You ditched me to go and get ice cream? Seriously! Who do you care about more? Ice cream, or your real living, breathing best friend."
Clyde didn't reply.
"Exactly," Kieran continued. "There isn't a reply. And even if there was, the answer probably wouldn't have been me!"
Clyde was seriously stuttering and looking for words but didn't and couldn't say anything.
"If it makes you feel better, I was going to get you some ice cream. Then I realised I had to come back to you, plus I didn't have any money left on me to actually get you one." Clyde replied, backing away from Kieran immediately as he was terrified of what Kieran was going to do to him next.
"It doesn't make me feel better Clyde!" Kieran threw his hands up in the air in ultimate frustration then kicked Clyde gently on his left leg.
"In fact it doesn't even make me happy at all. Why are we even friends, Clyde? And are you even my true friend?"
Clyde didn't say anything. Neither did Kieran, a monotonous silence filled the room, and the scene as well.
As Kieran was staring at Clyde, he had forgotten about the horrific, gruesome feature that was on his face.
His ears.
They were massive. Kieran had seen different sizes of them but Clyde's were larger than normal. Sometimes Kieran had joked to himself about him not being able to hear properly, then stopped when he realised it was by far too wicked to continue.
"I'm sorry. Is there any other way that I can make it up to you?"
Kieran headed for the fire exit, because after the ice hockey match, it was time to go home straight away.
"No Clyde. There's no way to make it up to me. Oh, and for the record, I'd rather be friends with Justin and Kendrick than be friends with you."
That hurt, Clyde wanted to stay, but stifled it.
So with saying that, a pretty jaded Kieran headed outside of the school, not caring at all that his ex best friend was watching him, regretting everything from the past.

Moral of chapter: I'm sorry but if your best friend leaves you for something else that's less important than your friendship then I hate to say this but they're not really your best friend anymore.
