"Explain why you've decided to bring me here?" Kieran whispered, when they had finally ended up at the ice hockey rink.
"Kieran. I don't know how to say this. But there's something I'd like to say to you." Kendrick stuttered.
Kieran didn't reply. He just let Kendrick do all of the talking. And what he said next kind of made Kieran change the way he saw Kendrick forever.
He was completely wrong about him.
"I'm really sorry Kieran. For everything. I'm really sorry for bullying you after all these years. As you know, Justin and I have fallen out. And now is my chance to make it up to you. I really like you as a person. You're awesome. The only reason I've been so rude to you in the past is because Justin coerced me to. Plus truth be told, I was jealous. I like you as a person more than I like Justin. Also, I really don't like Justin at all."
Kieran was utterly speechless.
It was like one of those movies when the bully admitted to the person they bullied that they had liked them all along, but then everything was a trick. Kieran wasn't convinced.
"Why were you jealous?" He pleaded.
Kendrick couldn't stop talking. He babbled on and on answering Kieran's question, until Kieran became so surprised that he almost couldn't help but .... Smile.
"So many reasons," Kendrick began. "You've got the most amazing handwriting. And you're epic at art! You're the smartest kid here that's in year ten, if not then the smartest boy. You've got an amazing personality, any girl would be lucky to have you. Girls hate me."
Kieran wondered why?
He smiled, but still wasn't a hundred percent sure on whether this whole thing was a trick or not.
"Anyway..." Kendrick placed both of his hands on Kieran's shoulders and then gave him a somewhat hypnotising stare. "I'd like to forget the past, and move on with our lives. Can we please be friends, Kieran?"
Was this a trick? It could have been likely. Kieran wasn't a hundred percent sure, plus Kendrick was never this nice to him.
They could hardly even tolerate each other, let alone speak to each other without insulting each other.
Kieran hated making eye contact with someone for too long, so what he did was to look away from Kendrick's face and at the floor instead, Kendrick letting go of reading on the door.
"I'm not sure, Kendrick. Is this a set up? Is Justin behind all this?"
"No, Kieran. Honestly. I mean everything I say," Kendrick admitted truthfully. "Please?"
He might as well just have said yes. Clyde wasn't his friend anymore, and they probably never were going to be friends anymore, so as a result, he didn't really have anyone anymore except himself.
Kieran didn't respond. He used his stock answer, if that counted as anything.
"Uhm....."
"Please. I'll do anything," Kendrick demanded. "Without Justin I have no one. No other friends that don't pay me to be rude to people, that is. That's also the reason we had that argument. Please Kieran. You're my only hope."
Kendrick thought he was helping Kieran but he wasn't, he was just making things tougher for him because he sounded so freaking desperate.
"Wait. You said you'll do anything?" Kieran repeated, half smiling in the process as he did so. "Could you help me get revenge on Clyde?"
Kendrick grinned impishly.
"Revenge is my middle name, Kieran. And revenge on Clyde for what?"
Kieran explained how he needed to get revenge on Clyde for saying things that weren't true about Vanessa, and how Kieran got ticked off at Vanessa not realising that Clyde was lying. Then Vanessa got mad at him for becoming mad at her and believing Clyde's lies.
"Whoa. Vanessa Sterling? The hottest girl in year ten, is Clyde's sister? But that's so weird, Clyde isn't hot at all. Have you seen his ears? They're massive, mate."
Kieran nodded, agreeing. And since Clyde and Kieran weren't friends anymore, he could pretty much bad mouth Clyde as much as he possibly wanted.
Plus there was no doubt that Clyde would have done the same thing to Justin.
"Yeah. I know. It surprised me as well when I figured out that Clyde and Vanessa were related. Anyway. I still need revenge on Clyde."
"You got any ideas yet?" Kendrick pleaded.
Kieran shook his head.
"No. But I'll text you when I do."
With that said, they just exchanged numbers.
There was silence after that, as an ice hockey instructor came into the rink, yelling at Kieran and Kendrick because no one was supposed to be in there until lunchtime or later.
So because of that, Kendrick and Kieran headed over back to the form room, and just in time too, because their teacher Mrs Skinner had just arrived inside the class, apologising to everyone on why she was late.
"Hello everyone! I'm so sorry. There was serious traffic. There seemed to have been a funeral at a church in the middle of the road which caused loads of commotion. I'm so sorry everyone!"
How to describe the teacher?
There were rude teachers.
Okay teachers.
Tolerant teachers.
Teachers that went absolutely ballistic for no reason, 24/7.
Mrs Skinner wasn't any of the above. She was probably one of the best Science teachers in the world- she was 77 years old and was the only teacher that let the students eat in lessons.
"Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I brought cookies, sweets and chocolate for everyone!"
Jubilantly cheering, everyone watched Mrs Skinner as she went around the class, distributing food to everyone.
When she was done, that was when she stood in front of the class, making another announcement that seemed to make everyone smile, once again.
"I was originally planing a science lesson for you guys, but then I got thinking- you guys just had mock exams. You don't need to do work! So I brought in a movie for us to watch instead."
She stopped what she was saying, taking a deep breath. There was a monotonous silence in the class for a while as all the kids all looked at Mrs Skinner blankly, but when she carried on talking again, everything began to sort of make sense.
"But before we do that.... There's a new kid that I'd like us to meet. Her name is Lauriel. Let's make her feel welcome. Lauriel!"
About five time wasted seconds later, a girl came into the classroom. She looked very emo, because she was wearing all black- it was also like her soul had been possessed by the devil.
The only thing about Lauriel that wasn't black was her hair- for some reason it was purple- why the school had allowed purple hair, Kieran didn't know.
Lauriel had also applied way too much make up on her face, typically mascara, that was also purple too.
Her complexion was also really light, but mainly mixed race though, but she wasn't entirely light, as she had a really fake tan, which Kieran was still surprised his terrible school had actually allowed.
Kieran didn't know which was worse, her clothes or her face.
This is very anti climactic, Kieran felt like saying. I thought that she'd be pretty but she's clearly not.
Lauriel wasn't pretty. She wasn't unpleasant looking either. Kieran didn't think much of her, although when Mrs Skinner told her to sit behind him and Kendrick (who had thankfully replaced Clyde) Kieran internally freaked out.
"Now. Before we start the movie, I'd like you guys to talk about what you all did last weekend. Get to know one another, as the seating plans have changed. They all changed last week. You have five minutes. Go."
That was when the talking started. Kieran was talking to Kendrick about his weekend whilst Lauriel was clandestinely shooting them death glares from the back.
"My weekend was dreadful but the weeks before were much worse. My sister Susannah died, there was a terrorist attack, there was a tornado, my stepfather was cross at me for messing up his wedding, and guess what? This all happened on the same day, Saturday."
"Whoa. That's a pretty rough weekend. My weekend was too tedious to talk about."
After realising that they hadn't talked to Lauriel yet, Kieran and Kendrick both turned to face her, traumatised on what she was doing.
They sort of had an argument over who should speak to her first, and Kendrick was the one to do that, seeing as Kieran wasn't so good at talking to girls, let alone looking at them.
"Lauriel..."
"Go away!" She snapped.
Okay then... Have it your way... Creepy girl. Kendrick thought.
"Jeez. Calm down will you?" Kieran lectured at her. "We just wanted to ask you what you did last weekend."
Lauriel's reaction to what Kieran had said was completely not inevitable, in a bad way, of course.
She stood up, slammed the table and practically yelled at Kieran.
"And why do you want to know what I did last weekend?" She bickered, sitting back down again.
"Because the teacher said so?"
"Why does she want to know what I did last weekend?" Lauriel repeated. "Stalkers."
"You're being very moody..." Kieran realised. "Are you sure you're alright?"
"Leave me alone!" was all Lauriel said, before she snarled at Kieran, almost biting him.
"Okay. You need to calm down," Kendrick soothed.
"I need to calm down? You need to calm down! How dare you tell me to calm down and ask me what I did last weekend. Those that tell me to calm down need to calm down themselves."
She was definitely going through something which she had been taking out on those two - accidentally on purpose.
"Lauriel, you need to calm down!" Kieran and Kendrick bellowed back at her, simultaneously.
"Okay!" Mrs Skinner yelled for the first time ever, pointing her stick at their direction. "What in tarnation is going on?"
"Lauriel's being insane!" Kieran whimpered.
"These two are driving me insane," Lauriel lied. "And I'm not being insane.. Kieran asked me what I did last weekend. Miss, he is stalking me. Kieran is a stalker."
"Shut up will you!" Lauriel hissed, pushing Kendrick off of his chair. "These people are so weird. Gosh."
After Lauriel had said that everyone looked at her confusingly, then all concurrently looked away.
"Okay. That's it. I've had enough! I don't usually shout at anyone much but you three are driving me insane with your constant bickering. Could you all just get along for once?"
No one said anything.
Lauriel kicked Kieran.
Kieran screamed.
Kendrick slapped her back.
Mrs Skinner became fed up about ten minutes after watching the three of them not get along with one another.
"Okay! That's it! I've had enough. All three of you to the headmaster's office."
No one moved.
"Now!"
So they did.
Kendrick and Lauriel did.
Kieran, in the meantime, didn't see why he needed to go there.
