Chapter 12- Secrets About Vanessa
Inspirational quote: When you're unsure remember to listen to that inner voice. Because somehow it always knows what it is you need. All you have to do is simply follow your heart.

"Wait! Kieran, wait!"
Clyde chased him down the colossal hallway, and when he did finally reach Kieran moments later, he made Kieran skid into a halt as they both almost crashed into a locker, everyone who was watching hysterically laughing at them.
They were okay. Clyde was okay, Kieran on the other hand, wasn't, he had been through a lot.
Kieran got up in anger, then soon realising that they were at a dead end, sort of, Kieran turned to face Clyde, an irritated look on his face.
"What was that for, Clyde? Trying to hurt me? I've been hurt both mentally and physically too many times recently. Is that what you want?"
Kieran walked away again, until Clyde pulled him back.
"What do you want!" He screamed. It was supposed to come out as a question but it just came out as a loud and angry shout instead.
"Look, Kieran," Clyde stared at Kieran's bruised brown eyes. "I'm know you're mad at me, and everyone else, but I have to tell you a secret."
"I don't care, Clyde!" Kieran screeched, throwing his hands up in frustration, but once Clyde told him that it was about Vanessa, that was when Kieran was practically all ears.
"A secret about Vanessa?" Kieran repeated, crossing his arms, not taking his eyes off of Clyde's. "Go ahead, I'm listening..."
Finally, something that gets his attention, Clyde wanted to say, although didn't.
There really was a secret about Vanessa that Kieran didn't know about, however Clyde did, and he was going to tell Clyde when he was ready to tell him.
Now was the time.
Clyde took a deep breath as Kieran was watching him for a while, perhaps wondering or thinking about what Clyde was about to say next.
"Okay, so there's a secret about Vanessa I need to tell you about..." Clyde trailed off, "which is..."
Kieran gasped before Clyde had the chance to actually say anything.
"You like her as well don't you!" Kieran yelled for the whole country to hear. "That's kind of cute, you and me have a crush on the same person."
Clyde just stared at Kieran blankly in return.
"One, I have never had a crush on Vanessa, two, I don't, and three, what is your problem? I don't develop feelings for girls as effortlessly as you do sometimes, Kieran."
Kieran wasn't convinced.
"Hang on. Are you trying to say to me that you don't like any girl at the moment?"
Clyde nodded vigorously.
"That's not true," Kieran pointed out. "What about that girl..."
"What girl?" Clyde asked, raising an eyebrow at Kieran.
"That girl in our form," Kieran answered unhelpfully. "Maria Grace Sanchez. That Chinese girl you thought was cute and humiliated in front of everyone on Valentine's Day last year."
Clyde turned red and didn't say anything.
"Aha. So you do like Maria Grace," Kieran told Clyde, smiling impishly all the way.
"Yes but please don't tell her. I don't want her to know until we leave school or something. Luckily she didn't find out on Valentine's Day despite the fact that I made it extremely obvious. Besides, you like Vanessa. Speaking of Vanessa, can I please tell you that secret about her now?"
"Go ahead," was all Kieran said.
So Clyde said it. At least, he was about to, until Kieran had stopped him halfway, once again.
Clyde had only managed to say "the secret about Vanessa is..." before Kieran interrupted rudely, trying to read Clyde's mind on what Kieran thought Clyde was going to say.
"The secret about Vanessa is that she's not single anymore?" Kieran guessed. "Yes, Clyde. I know that."
Clyde was confused.
"What do you mean, she's not single anymore? Who's her boyfriend?"
Kieran remained silent for a while, before grinning, and winking crookedly at Clyde.
"You're Vanessa's boyfriend, isn't it?" Clyde asked.
"Yeah. Kind of."
"What do you mean, kind of?"
"Kind of hard to explain," Kieran replied. "Anyway. Before you become annoyed at me again, what's the real secret about Vanessa?"
Clyde sighed, he didn't know how to get it across to Kieran.
He knew what Kieran was like with secrets: would become vexed at him for not telling him earlier, would feel like Clyde didn't trust him... The pain was unbearable.
"Okay, Kieran. Please do not get ticked off at me for not telling you sooner, but here is the real secret about Vanessa."
Kieran remained silent for a while as Clyde kept on helplessly talking.
"The secret about Vanessa is..."
Kieran's eyes widened, then his smile fell at what Clyde had said next.
"I can't say it. Sorry," Clyde admitted, annoying the life out of Kieran.
Kieran whacked him with his maths book, before swearing at him twice, and yelling, "for flip sake, Clyde! You might as well tell me. I'm not leaving here until you do."
Clyde rolled his eyes in disbelief, and then tried again.
"Okay. Here goes nothing. The real, genuine secret about Vanessa is..."
Dramatic pause.
Nobody dared say anything.
"Please don't get mad at me."
"I'm already mad now, because you refuse to say it. What is it?"
Clyde said it. He didn't know how, it just slipped out of his mouth, just like that.
"Vanessa's my sister."
That was when Kieran almost passed out on the floor for real, making his reaction a lot more extreme than Clyde had thought.
"Vanessa's your sister? Vanessa's your sister? Vanessa's your sister?"
Clyde nodded, staring at a delusional, mortified Kieran.
"I'm sorry Kieran but that's the truth. Ask anyone."
That was when Kieran sprang up, hitting Clyde continuously, making people stare at him in bewilderment.
Vanessa lied about where she got her crutches from. Her mother was there at the hospital with them, also lying about everything, as the truth was very traumatising.
They said they were about to go shopping until Vanessa tripped over something. The hospital waiting time was long so Vanessa was in there until someone had dealt with her problem.
Clyde didn't know about Anthony's wedding as Kieran didn't tell him, he wasn't there. Kieran barely knew about it himself. They didn't talk at all that weekend because Kieran was still mad at Clyde for being a terrible best friend, twice in one day.
"I can't believe you kept this a secret from me all this time! And I can't believe you would make such a clandestine lie like that just to make me jealous! What kind of friend are you, Clyde?"
That was not what Clyde was expecting.
In a bad way, of course.
"Kieran. I'm not joking. Vanessa's my sister. This wasn't to make you jealous, I promise. Yes I know, I probably should have told you earlier. I'm sorry, I can't always keep promises I make with myself."
"Just why didn't you tell me?" Kieran repeated again. "And if Vanessa's your 'sister' then how comes I've never seen her in your family ever since I first met you when we were three?"
Clyde sighed. This wasn't very easy for him either.
"Listen. My mum and dad split up the month before I met you. Vanessa went to live somewhere very far away from us with my mother, whilst I stayed nearby with my father. It was a tough time. They only got back together again after about twelve years or so, meaning that I haven't seen my sister Vanessa in twelve years. I didn't tell you earlier because, you were so infatuated with her I didn't want to ruin our friendship over a girl."
Kieran half smiled at that.
"But I still need proof that you guys are related because who knows? For all I know this could be an April Fools joke."
"It's March the 30th," Clyde corrected him, laughing in the process as he did so. "We haven't hit April yet. And sure. She's coming now."
Vanessa walked over to Clyde and Kieran, where she kissed Kieran and stared at Clyde. She was about to go again that was until Kieran surprisingly held her back.
"Vanessa. Can I ask you a quick question? You have to be genuinely honest."
"Sure, boyfriend," Vanessa whispered to Kieran before kissing him again.
"Okay. Okay. So, is Clyde here your brother?"
Vanessa looked at Kieran, then at Clyde, where Kieran was a hundred percent sure that Clyde winked at her.
"Yeah, he's my brother," Vanessa admitted truthfully.
"Hang on," Kieran said, walking in circles around both of them. "No you're not. Clyde, you winked at Vanessa, I saw that wink, don't deny it."
"I... I didn't wink at her, there was something in my eye," Clyde corrected him.
"Lies! Blasphemy!" Kieran yelled. "So you guys aren't related after all. Who do you think you're deceiving?"
Vanessa and Clyde both rolled their eyes concurrently when Kieran had said that, then Vanessa told Kieran that the two were really siblings whether Kieran believed it or not.
"Kieran. For God sake. We're related. Believe it or not. Jeez. Must you never believe anything I say?" Clyde hissed hostilely.
"I still need proof that you guys are related," Kieran continued. "It's just too surreal. You barely look alike. Whether you like it or not."
What was this? Some sort of Judge Judy show?
Juvenile delinquent here claims that a really pretty girl is his sister, and another juvenile delinquent doesn't believe him?
You've got to be kidding me, thought Clyde to himself.
Kieran wasn't kidding though. He was being deadly serious.
