Chapter 37
Third POV
Bayley looked at the rows of neatly parked cars, examining a few but having no idea for what she was looking. Ever since she and Sasha had made their relationship official the media focused their attention on the two, and it made Bayley deeply uncomfortable and was only made worse when things about her private life crept into the public eye.
This is why she was fine with Triple H taking her credit because she couldn't handle the media being a part of her life, especially worrying if the media hounded on her mom and sister whenever they were in the city to visit Beth and Kaitlyn. AJ couldn't fly off because she'll reveal her powers and the media will possibly figure out she's Saiyagirl and Bayley is Saiyawoman/The Golden Fighter.
The media had somehow found out that Bayley didn't have her driver's license. She didn't even have a learner's permit! On top of all that, her family only owned one car. Not one of the television stations, newspapers or magazines bothered to look into Bayley's history after that. They were far too interested in how an average, country girl could date the daughter of Tiple H and not at least have a car.
So here she was checking out cars at the best dealership in the city. Triple H and Sasha were supposed to meet here since Triple H had insisted on buying the car as a thank you. Although Bayley wanted to decline she knew he wasn't changing his mind. Sasha called and informed her that they were held up on their doorstep for yet another unexpected interview. Bayley has only been at the dealership lot for a minute before a salesman walked briskly out of the office and approached her with a smile. Bayley didn't miss the way the realization look he had recognizing Bayley for the media newspaper, magazine, and news tv.
"Well how about this. Look who I've got at my humble dealership! Triple H own protégé, finally getting a car. Couldn't take the pressure anymore, eh kid?"
Bayley laughed as she rubbed the back of her head, "Uh, I guess, I just got my permit and, well, I'm not really sure what I should be driving. I don't know too much about cars-"
"Say no more, kiddo! Paul Heyman has your back." The man straightened his name tag which did, indeed, read "Heyman"- with one hand and reached out to shake Bayley's with the other. He winced when Bayley squeezed a little too hard since she is nervous, but otherwise kept up his cool demeanor. "Quite a grip you have there, I can tell Triple H teaching you well!"
"Yes sure has." Bayley replied lying, she had gotten her permit the previous weekend after several weeks of driving practice with Daniel. "So you don't know what you're looking for that's okay. The first car is a pretty important decision, though. Let's just take a walk and you let me know if anything catches your eye."
"Okay." Bayley said feeling uncomfortable that so many strangers to know her name without being introduced, but she knew it was bound to happen when she and Sasha started dating.
"How about this car?" Paul asked as they stopped beside a very small, bright green convertible. "She's not the best on mileage, but she's certainly showy enough to be seen around the city. I can get you a pretty good rate, too just ignore the sticker price for right now."
Bayley walked around the tiny car, kicked a tire as she'd seen people do in movies and bent over to peer inside. She glanced at the sticker on the windshield and eyes widened in shock at the price of the car. How could something so small with poor kilometers to the gallon cost six million?! Triple H could easily buy her the car but she didn't want him to spend that much money on her, "It's a little out of my price range and small I'm sorry."
"No, no, don't be sorry, kiddo." Paul patted her on the back and and they walked away, "She's a little too flashy for a teenager your age. Not everyone can pull off a beauty like that..."
Bayley spotted an simple, steel-grey, four-door sedan. "Hey, this one looks great! Good mileage, all kindsa handy features." She read some of the specifications off the paper in the passenger window. As she was calculating monthly payments off the sticker price, Paul came up beside her and let out a laugh.
"Are you serious? You're messing with me, right?? This is not the car for you." Paul said making Bayley confused. "It's not? But it has just the right amount of things features, and my mom can use it to pick up groceries-"
"Bayley, this car doesn't even have a Capsule feature. Also it's older model and honestly, I don't know what it's even doing on my lot." Paul tells Bayley thinking it change Bayley mind but Bayley doesn't budge, "And it's used, so you could lower the price a bit-"
"And it's used! No way is Triple H star pupil gonna be seen around town in a junker like this c'mon, I don't even know why this car was here when it's supposed to be in the used lot." Paul drags Bayley to another car.
An hour passed before Triple H and Sasha arrived. Father and daughter went right into the main office and were handed cool drinks and a plate of appetizers. Triple H dropped into a comfortable chair and immediately struck up conversation with a few of the younger salesmen, forcefully directing their eyes away from Sasha and capturing their attention with talk of cars and fights. Sasha searched the entire building for Bayley but couldn't find her. She made her way back to the entry and waved off the refreshments and compliments from a boy that had escaped the knot around her dad.
"Okay, where's Bayley?" She asked arms folded and foot tapping. The salesmen and two saleswomen glanced at each other, and then out into the lot. Sasha rolled her eyes and walked outside, looking till she finally spotted Bayley at the outskirts of the Used section.
"Now what's she doing back there? Dad said he'll pay for the car."
She made her way through the lot and stopped beside the extremely frustrated salesman that was barely taller than she. "Not not a good fit. Bayley." The man was saying. "You're dating Sasha Levesque! The Champ's daughter, his only daughter! A honey like that needs to be seen in a cherry ride-"
"I'll be seen in whatever kind of ride Bayley wants." Sasha exclaimed, "And don't you dare call me a "honey" again or I'll kick your ass into next month."
Paul paled and dug a finger into his shirt collar. He nodded several times, stuttered apologies and stopped short of begging for his life or to keep his job. Sasha ignored Paul and turned her attention on Bayley."You find anything you like?" Sasha asked
Bayley smiles in relief to see her. She pointed at the car she liked it. "It's an older model, but it looks really sturdy and mom be able to use it during the week for groceries-"
"Bayley. We're here to get a car for you, not your mom. What does it- oh sweetie, no."
The pair with Paul following behind stopped in front of the sedan on which Bayley hadn't given up. Sasha shook her head slowly and places her hands on her hips sternly looking at Bayley, "You're not serious."
"Sure I am it's great! And it's blue, just like your hair." Bayley said pointing out the comparison, "No, this... thing is grey." Sasha corrected her, "I know dad said to get whatever you wanted, but this is, like it's an old lady car, Bayley. C'mon, let's go back to the new models."
"See, Bayley? What'd I tell you! Miss Sasha knows a awful car when she sees one. The really good ones are this-away."Paul said as he regained his confidence and led the couple back towards the main lot. Bayley tired to quietly convince Sasha that the sedan was a great buy. Sasha tuned her out and looked around the shining vehicles, looking for something to appease her sweet, simple girlfriend, Sasha narrowed her gaze at a vehicle near the main entrance.
"Look at this one, Bayley!" She called, turning and waving to her. She walked over, shoulders hunched and hands in her pockets.
"She's so cute when she pouts."
Sasha stood to beside the car and threw her arms out dramatically presenting the deep blue, very sleek, four-door Capsule sedan. "It has all the stuff you like about that one, but this one is much prettier! Ooh, look it has heated seats and a "moon roof"! Isn't it nice?"
Bayley perked up and walked around the car. She looked at the tires, bend down and peered at the undercarriage. She stopped to read the stats and calculate the kilometers-per-gallon. Sasha covered her mouth from laughing while she watched Bayley for someone who had no idea what she was looking for or at, she was being very thorough.
"Well, it doesn't have the best KPGs, but it does have a good warranty option. And if it does anything funny, I guess I can always take it to Beth or her dad they do also know a lot about vehicles." Bayley said. "I'll just get the keys and you kids can take the car out for a spin!" Paul said and practically skipped into the office. Sasha smiled triumphantly at Bayley. She chuckled and wrapped her arms around Sasha waist pulling her closer as Sasha wrapped her arms around Bayley neck, and the two kissed.
"I thought you didn't like kissing in public." Sasha asked once she pulls away, Sasha figured out that Bayley wasn't the biggest fan of kissing in public because she thought the media would snap a picture of the two kissing, and Sasha couldn't blame her.
"Well this time I'm making a expectation." Bayley replied, "Love you." Bayley said looking at Sasha with love in her eyes. "Love you, too, dork."
Bayley kisses Sasha forehead and rested her head on top of Sasha head for a minute before she pulls away.
"Do we really need to drive this thing? I'm sure it's fine. " Bayley said as Paul walked down a line of sales people and receiving high-fives. She shrugged and tried the passenger side door to find out it was locked.
"No, but he seems so eager. We might as well make his little day."
"Sasha!"
"He called me "a honey", Bayley. The guy's a jerk." Sasha exclaimed as she ran her hand through her hair, "You're right. Let's just go fill out the papers and spend the rest of the day at the beach. You'll drive us there, of course."
"We can both fly; I still don't really understand why I need a car." Bayley said not really wanting a car, "Because if you're not in costume and go flying around, it'll draw way too much attention. And driving is fun! You'll see. It's a nice, non Saiyan thing to do." She nudged Bayley with her elbow and winked. Bayley grinned, shaking her head. She was glad that Edge explained it and not her. Bayley didn't want to relieve the moment her dad found out that he was Saiyan. Sometimes she wishes her dad didn't attend the reunion because he wouldn't have met his brother and find out about his real family. But Bayley knows that somehow her dad would've eventually found out about his real heritage.
They walked, arm in arm, into the main office, arriving to cheers and applause. Bayley blushed and ducked her head, as Sasha hugged her arm.
"Congratulations on your first car, Bayley." Triple H said patting Bayley on the back.
"Thank you, sir."
"Great choice, too. Does my little girl have an eye for cars or what!" Triple H said and ruffled Sasha's hair. She mumbled and slapped at his hand, her blush rivaling Bayley's.
The paperwork took considerably less time than she'd thought and Bayley was certain it was only simple because of Triple H fame. She couldn't complain though almost anything that got her out of the dealership faster would have been welcome. They were escorted out of the building and even given a gift basket filled with treats Bayley intended to devour the moment they arrived at the ocean. Triple H called his limo, joking with the sales people while he waited. Bayley and Sasha sat in the car, testing all the buttons and turning up the air conditioner to its highest setting. Bayley remained quiet until Triple H was gone and the sales staff returned to the building. She watched Sasha search for a radio station for a few moments, then noticed something.
"Oh no!"
"Wha-?"
"It's a stick shift! Daniel only showed me how to drive automatic!" Bayley tells Sasha.
