13. Declaration.
***Ramya's POV.***
"You are way too silent." Reyansh says.
"Then it must be great for you." I say.
"Not when the reason is me." He says, but I focus on driving.
"We are here." I say when we reach the hotel where our meeting is held.
"Thanks." He says.
We entered the restaurant and sat next to each other, but I refused to talk to him for being... I don't know. Maybe idiot is a better word for him. Doesn't he know that I know this is all just for show. But still he should also know that I am not getting married twice?
"Coffee or tea, Mam?" A server asks.
"She would have coffee too." He says.
"Who are you to order for me? I will have juice." I say and turn away again.
"I think you promised you will keep your personal life away from your professional life." He asks.
"Our meeting has not started yet. Then I will cling to you, my dear fiance." I say with a smile.
"I think I should rethink about the destination wedding thing, otherwise I don't think you will behave like your name again." He says.
"And you know what my name means?" I scoff.
"Of course. It is pleasing or delightful and also beautiful." He says.
"Really. How did you know?" I ask as I give him my attention.
"I researched about it to know why you are like this. Turns out your mother knew you better and named you like that." He says and my smile fades away, "What happened? Did I say something wrong?"
"Nothing. It is just that I was the opposite of what I am today when I was little. I used to be a quiet and boring child." I say as a memory comes to my mind.
I had to be quiet. A little noise would have irked a monster, and he would have vented his anger on my mother. Those days were nothing less than a horror movie where you have to be silent, but too much silence scares you, too.
"Ramya." Reyansh says as he shakes me, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I am fine." I lied.
"So where do you want this destination wedding to be?" He asks.
"Why are you asking when I know you don't mean it?" I ask with a pout.
"Well, maybe I could change my mind if the destination is to my liking." He says and I look at him to see his blank look.
"Fine. I was thinking about Rishikesh, or maybe Rajasthan." I say.
"Rajasthan. Are you sure you won't faint in the heat of May?" He asks in surprise.
"I would be just fine." I say.
"Okay. We will talk about it in detail later." He says.
"That is what I was asking about. Never say no to me directly. Discuss it, think about it, then answer." I say and pat his cheek and drink my juice.
"I hope I am not disturbing you two." A middle-aged man says, and I look up at him.
"Mr. Murthy. How are you?" Reyansh asks and gets up and so do I.
"I am fine. Who is this fine lady?" Mr. Murthy asks.
"She is Ramya Kaur. My partner and also my fiance." He says, and I shake hands with Mr. Murthy with a smile.
"It is nice to meet you, Mr. Murthy." I say.
"Pleasure to meet you, too. Let's take a seat." He says and we sit down.
"Thank you, Mr. Murthy, for having this meeting with me again." Reyansh says.
"Well, I value smart people, and you are one of them. But I wonder, did you arrange a fake fiance or a real one in just a week?" He asks with a frown.
"What is he talking about, Reyansh?" I ask him, acting clueless.
"Oh, nothing. A week ago, Mr. Murthy asked me if I had a well-settled life or not and by that he meant a woman who would keep me in line. Sorry to disappoint you, Sir, but it is me who has to keep Ramya in line." He says with a chuckle.
"I apologize. But how did you meet?" He asks.
"My step-sister is married to his brother. I just fell in love with after spending only a month in his company. He is reliable and honest. Where could I find a man like him? So I grabbed my chance at Holi and proposed to him in front of everyone." I say and run my hand up and down his biceps.
"So sweet." He says while Reyansh puts his hand on mine.
"About the investment-" Reyansh says but gets interrupted.
"I am sorry, Reyansh, but I am already investing in a start-up. If I had known that you have a fiance, I wouldn't have given my word to that lady." He says, and I feel tingly behind my neck.
"But-" Reyansh goes to say but I stop him and shake my head.
"That's fine, Mr. Murthy. But can you tell us who this lady is?" I ask with a smile.
"Oh, it is Ms. Jagvi Singh. She is going to wed soon too." He says and after a beat says, "There she is."
We turn around to see Jagvi coming towards our table with a winning smirk on her face. The last time I saw her, she had tears in her eyes as if Reyansh had betrayed him. But she is back with a bang and it looks like she planned these carefully.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Murthy." She says in greeting, "Oh, Reyansh. You are here too."
What an actress!
"Do you know them, Ms. Singh?" Mr. Murthy asks.
"Of course. Reyansh is my ex-husband." She says with a smile.
"Oh! I didn't know that." He says with astonishment.
"That's fine. We are cool." She says with a chuckle.
Mr. Murthy's phone rings and he says, "I have to attend to this. We will start our meeting in the conference room in ten minutes, Jagvi. I hope you are ready." He says.
"I am. See you there." She says, and he leaves after waving at us.
"So, how was my surprise, dear?" She asks Reyansh, totally ignoring me.
"Expected." Reyansh says, "Let's go, Ramya."
We turn to leave, but she stops him by grabbing his hand.
"I can still give these all up for you. Just come back to me, Ansh." She says.
"Why should I do that?" He asks.
"Because you love me and I love you, too. I cannot live without you." She says or more like pleads.
"And you know very well that I can't live without my family. Would you abandon your loved ones for me, especially your mother?" He asks, and she leaves his hand.
"You are making a big mistake, Ansh. You can never love her." She says, giving me a glare.
"Who said that? If I can fall out of love, I can fall in love again too and this time maybe someone like her who respects my family, unlike you, who never even thought they existed." He says.
"That's impossible." She says with a smirk.
"Well, we will see. Also, you are not invited to our destination wedding, which, by the way, is happening in Jaipur. So what I didn't get as an investor today that doesn't make me sad. Because when one day I will be successful, these would become inspirational stories." He says and takes my hand.
"Stop, Ansh." She says.
"Goodbye, Jagvi." He says and walks out with me.
"So apparently, we are getting married in Jaipur. Why there?" I ask as we drive towards home.
"Because Jagvi wanted to get married there but her Nani was ill so we had the ceremony in Chandigarh. I loved rubbing it in her face. That was a cheap win, but better than nothing." He says and sighs.
"So, are you going to ask me?" I ask.
"What?" He asked me.
"To be your investor, duh!" I say.
He thinks for a second, then says, "You know, I think it is fate that I have to take help from you only. It feels odd, but you are my partner, so you as well help me out."
"That's more like an entrepreneur. Be aggressive in some things." I say.
"You are right. Everything is allowed in business, and what I am doing is not illegal unless it is a dowry." He says with a frown.
I blink, then stop the car and start laughing. "You are too cute."
"Not more than you." He mumbles under his breath.
