Second Time Down Under
*Chapter 2*
Chico said to me as we approached the entrance to Beethoven's, "Thanks Brown, this is the best time that I have ever had anywhere and it's not even the end of the first day. Man! This place is great!". " Calm down dude. Like you said, we're just getting started".
Six more days here. Beautiful city. Beautiful cottage. Beautiful weather. Beautiful people. This really is as good as it gets.
The line moves quickly and we're inside. "Wow,!! This place is packed!! I hope that we can find Marcello", Chico shouts over the music. I think to myself, " Yeah, I just hope that I see that cutie that I was just dancing with. Damn! What was her name?"
Just then I hear a shriek!! Someone is screaming my name!! I scan. So many people and so much noise. I see motion. I zoom in. Can't recognize the figure. But she climbing over people trying to get out of a booth. Suddenly from behind, wham!!! As I try to turn to see who it is another body latches on. There's screaming and the lights from the disco strobe lights and ball and loud music and I am disoriented! I shake free to see Marcello and two young ladies that I have never seen before jumping up and down like lunatics. I grab Chico by his shoulder and pull him into the ruckus. After formally introducing Chico and Marcello, I move away before getting caught up in the introduction of the other crazies.
I have a totally different agenda now. My service to my friends complete, it's time to look out for me. "Now, what was her name?" I ask myself. "Damn I shoulda asked Chico", I tell myself as I look over my shoulder. Too late for that.
I make my way to the edge of the dance floor. She likes to dance. Maybe she is out on the floor. I stand there. When the song end I see this body moving through the sea of people on the dance floor. Can it be. Yes! It's her. The guy that was just dancing with her cuts me a look. I raise my my hands as if to say that I'm sorry.
Her name comes to me as she removes lips from mine. It's Rosemary. Wow. What a powerful kiss. "You're pretty popular 'round these parts eh mate?" She winks and it's out on the dance floor we go. "I don't know nobody here but you now!!" I shout over the crowd noise and music.
"So those girls? They are for your friend you were with earlier?", she asked. "I guess, I was only responsible for introducing him to one of them." Before I can get another word out Chico is out on the floor trying to get my attention. He makes his way over "I see you found her". Rosemary shouts out "I found him!!!" We all laugh. "Are you going to be alright?" I ask Chico. "For sure Bro, for sure. Marcello said that she would get me back to the cottage", Chico replied with a big smile. He and Marcello disappeared into the sea of dancing bodies.
Rosemary must have kept me dancing for an hour or more. But it felt like we had just gotten on the dance floor. I never knew that I had that much energy.
It was my time to take control. I took her and we made our way off of the noisy, crowded dance floor. We got a drink and wandered aimlessly trying to find somewhere to sit. The entire club was packed to the hilt with the loud crowd. We squeezed into a space along the wall. "Having fun?", she yelled over the noise. "The best time ever!", I shouted back. She smiled. " How about we blow this place and go somewhere a little less crowded", she said. Before I knew it we were at the door and headed out into the night.
I don't think that I thought about Chico again that night. I asked if she was hungry because I surely was. "Just a bit", she replied. "Let's see what we can find". Everywhere that we went was crammed with tons of people. Rosemary said," I got an idea, why don't we get away from all of these people. Let's get away from in town". "Good idea. I know just the place", I tell her. "Let's get a taxi". "No worries mate, I've got my car and it's just around the corner", she pulling me down the walk. "So where are we off to?", she asked. I told her the name of the resort and she drove directly there.
Once at the cottage, I repeat that I am hungry. "You should have reminded me on the way. We could have stopped and gotten take out". I smiled. I took her hand and walked toward the kitchen. "You know, if it weren't for Chico, I never would have met you". I opened the fridge and took out the biggest of the Porter House steaks that I had purchased earlier. "I was going to stay here at the cottage and cook, eat, swim and drink for seven days". Rosemary came and took a closer look at the well stocked refrigerator. "Well you certainly know how to shop. Have you any idea what to do with it now that you have it?", she laughed. She kissed me, then pushed me aside and began rummaging through the pantry for cookware. I thought to myself, " this is far better than the plans that I had made for myself". Rosemary said, "Be a dear and go grab my bag from the boot". My puzzled look must have told her that I didn't have a clue as to what she had said. "Let's see. What do you yanks call the back storage area of a car?", she asks. "Oh, the trunk!" We both laugh.
I returned to sizzling aroma of garlic crusted steak. She was cooking up a feast. I went upstairs and took a shower. I stepped out unto balcony to see if I could see home. Great I thought to myself. It was too dark to see her. I am exactly where I want to be. Away from the everything. From behind me I hear footsteps. "What are you doing out here?", she whispers into ear as she hugs me. "Thinking just how beautiful this all is", I sigh turn and kiss her.
