Chapter 21
"So wait, Lana is apparently a kryptonian?" Lois asked Clark after he'd brought her up to speed, with Lana's permission.
"Yeah, she's still wrapping her head around that and so am I." Clark said.
"I just wish that her parents had told her sooner. And you." Lois said.
"Yeah, me too. It would've been so helpful to have people like me growing up. Instead I had to wait until I was 18 before I could find any answers. Lana's parents knew the truth about me and yet they never said a word." Clark said a bit bitterly.
"Well, at least she'll have you to help guide her through this, though a less secure and more jealous woman might be jealous." Lois said with a smile.
"That would imply that Superman isn't afraid of his wife." Clark said with a chuckle.
"Smart boy." Lois said with a grin as she patted Clark's cheek like he was a dog.
"I am relieved that I don't have to keep this secret from Lana anymore. Honestly, growing up, she was the one person I wanted to tell and if I'd known then what I know now, I would've." Clark said.
"Have you told her about Kara yet?" Lois asked.
"Not yet, if only because I think I can only drop so many bombshells on her at once. But I will and I'm also going to be taking her up to the fortress soon so she can see what's left of our culture." Clark said.
"At least, what's left of it on Earth." Lois said.
"We haven't found any proof that Argo City exists yet and I know that Kara and J'onn have the DEO constantly scanning for it, but that city is near impossible to find for a reason." Clark said.
"They'll find it." Lois promised him.
"I know. But for now, the Fortress is the only link to Krypton that I can show Lana." Clark said and Lois nodded.
"That I can understand." Lois said, right as Clark's phone rang.
"Alex, what a surprise. What's going on?" Clark asked and Lois was immediately concerned by the change in reaction in his face as he heard whatever it was that Alex was saying.
"What, how long was she in there? Why the hell didn't you call me as soon as it happened?" Clark asked as he heard Alex's response.
"I don't care that you got her back, you should have called me the moment Non sent her there." Clark said.
"Clark, what's going on?" Lois asked.
"Apparently when Kara went to fight Non about a week ago, he sent her to the Phantom Zone and this is the first I'm hearing of it." Clark said and now Lois understood his anger.
"Is she okay?" Lois asked.
"Yeah, they got her out, but that's not the point." Clark said as Alex's next words got his attention.
"Wait, what?" Clark asked, thinking he'd misheard her.
"You heard me, Clark. You need to get your ass here now." Lois heard Alex say on the other end of the call.
"I'll be there in five minutes." Clark said as he hung up.
"What's going on? Clearly this is about more than just wanting to yell at Alex and J'onn for not telling you about Kara until now." Lois said.
"You're right, it's about more than that. Alex told me that when they freed Kara from the Phantom Zone, she wasn't the only one to come through the portal. Two other people did too and yes, they're friendly." Clark said.
"How can you be sure?" Lois asked.
"Because one of them was J'onn's brother." Clark said and Lois nodded at that, since Kara had told them about Malefic.
"And the other?" Lois asked.
"That's why I need to get to National City. The other person was Kara's father, my uncle Zor-El." Clark said and now it all made sense to Lois.
"Then why the hell are you still here? Get your ass to National City now. I'll talk to Lana and let her know about this and then bring the boys out there to join you." Lois said and Clark nodded at her, grateful for her support before proceeding to fly off, leaving her to explain everything to the boys.
Lana was so relieved that she was being discharged from the hospital later on today because she was getting sick and tired of being laid up in bed. Especially since she'd need something to distract her from the huge bombshells her parents and Clark had told her and more importantly, how she'd tell her girls, since she knew Clark was right and she'd have to tell them soon, especially if one of them started developing powers.
However, she was pulled from her thoughts when she heard the sound of her door open and was surprised when she saw Morgan Edge of all people enter her room.
"What do you want? Your little attempt to kill me failed, so you came here to finish the job?" Lana asked.
"What, you think I was involved in that?" Edge asked.
"Well, I turned down your money and then a day or so later I nearly got killed in the mines that you own." Lana said.
"Fair point, but I assure you, I had nothing to do with that incident. In fact, I believed it was an accident. I simply wanted to make sure you were alright, since it seems very clear that I should be trying to get on the mayor's good side." Edge said.
"I haven't been elected yet." Lana said.
"You mean you haven't heard? Apparently Mayor Dean dropped out of the race and off the map shortly after your accident, which honestly makes me think that it wasn't an accident." Edge said.
"Why am I not surprised that it was him. He was so desperate to beat me that he tried to kill me." Lana said.
"Yes, though unfortunately there is no hard evidence tying him to the crime, aside from him leaving so suddenly." Edge said.
"Well, as you can see, I'm fine, so you can get lost." Lana said, since she still didn't trust Edge.
"Very well. I won't impose myself on you any longer, just wanted to offer my well wishes." Edge said, and Lana could tell that he meant it. Maybe there was some good in him after all. But she wouldn't be too quick to determine that. He still had a reputation and until he proved that he wasn't the asshole everyone thought he was, she'd continue to loathe him.
