Chapter 17

Okay, before I start the chapter, I just want to give you guys a little heads up and don't worry, it's nothing bad. I just want to let you know that this entire series will include aspects from the DC universe obviously, but also from the Marvel universe and my knowledge from my history of writing fanfictions based off of Rick Riordan's stories, along with new ideas that just come from my mind. The reason for this is because it's helping me keep myself interested in this series so I don't abandon it like I have the others. Plus, this way, I can open more doors to new characters and maybe even new stories coming to this series. Just wanted to make that clear now so that no one got on my case about it later.

Also, this chapter will have something in it that I think a lot of people have been waiting for since mid season 2 of Superman and Lois and now onto the story.

"Are you sure you want to do this Lana?" Lois asked as they pulled up to the mines.

"For the final time Lois, yes I am. Smallville is my home and if Morgan Edge is going to have anything to do with it, I need to be sure that he's not up to anything that could hurt my town. Something that we both know that Dean never cared about. He only cared about what made him look good." Lana said.

"Which is why you're going to be a much better mayor than he ever was. You and I both know what the polls say. Not to mention with the additional funding you're getting." Lois said and Lana nodded.

"Okay, now stop trying to distract me. I'm doing this." Lana said, realizing that Lois was trying to keep her from doing this.

"Sorry Lana. I just wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something happened to you because of me." Lois said.

"Lois, I volunteered to do this. Trust me, I know what I'm doing." Lana said.

"I do trust you Lana, but I also don't want to have to tell Clark that I got his oldest friend killed." Lois said.

"I'll be fine. Just keep watch." Lana said and Lois nodded as Lana got out of the car and headed into the mines.

After she entered the mines, Lana was confused by what she was seeing.

"Lana, how's everything going in there?" Lois asked over the radios they'd brought.

"So far everything looks fine, but I don't know what Edge could possibly want with the mines, considering all I'm seeing is this strange orange mineral in it." Lana said.

"Edge must want it for some reason, even though we don't know what it is." Lois said.

"What should I do?" Lana asked.

"See if you can pull any of the mineral free. I can take it to my dad and see if his guys at the DOD can ID what exactly it is." Lois said, though there was actually someone else she'd give it too first.

"Okay, I'll see what I can do." Lana said, wishing she'd brought the tools needed for something like this, but all she could really do was grip a small shard of the mineral, whatever it was, and try pulling it. However, as she did so, she felt the ground begin to shake.

"Uh Lois, I think something went wrong, because things are starting to get shaky." Lana said as she heard some loud sound that she could've sworn sounded like an explosion of some kind before rocks began to fall, some of them landing on the mineral around her, shattering them and releasing some kind gas into the air.

"Lana, it sounds like there's a cave in happening. Get out of there." Lois said, since she could hear it from outside.

"I'm trying, but I'm not sure if I'll make it out." Lana said as she coughed on the dust and gas being kicked up as more and more rocks fell from the ceiling of the cave and several of them landed very close to her, but she was also feeling weird. Like more of that gas that was coming from the mineral she inhaled and honestly, she'd probably inhaled more of it than she should've, but considering she needed to breathe, she didn't really have a choice about it, the stronger she got. However, before she could think about it, she dropped her radio when a giant rock fell right on top of her.

"I'm not losing you." Lois said when the connection went dead as she pulled out her ELT and called Superman to her.

"Lois, what's going on?" Her husband asked her.

"Lana was inside checking out the mines when suddenly something caused a cave in. She's trapped and I lost contact with her." Lois said.

"I'll find her." Superman promised as he flew straight in the mine, simply either brushing off or flying through the falling rocks as he did, since they were of no real concern to him. The only thing he cared about now was saving his oldest friend, using all of his superpowers to try and find Lana, since he was not losing her.

Finally, he dedicated a heartbeat with his super hearing and followed it to find Lana trapped under a ton of rocks, and yet somehow, she didn't look like there was a scratch on her, and even more confusing, her heart rate wasn't getting weaker, if anything, it was only getting stronger. However, he wasn't really concerned about that now, his primary concern was getting Lana out of there as he quickly cleared the rocks off of her and picked her up before noticing she had something stuck in her hand and she saw that it was a chunk of the mineral that he was seeing all over the cave and made sure to hold it as well, since he knew that Lana wouldn't be trying so hard to hang onto it if it weren't important, but he then made sure that his grip on her was tighter before flying her out of there.

Lois was relieved when Superman returned from the cave with Lana in his arms.

"Is she okay?" Lois asked as she looked over Lana and was surprised to not find any signs of injury on her, not even a cut or a bruise.

"Aside from the trauma of nearly being buried alive, yeah. I'm as surprised as you, she doesn't have any physical injuries, even though she was crushed under a ton of rocks." Superman said.

"How is that possible? There are only two people in this town that could've survived a cave-in without a scratch on them and that's you and Jordan." Lois said.

"I'll take her to the hospital and then see if I can get a sample of her blood up to the Fortress to see if I can find out what's going on with her." Superman said and Lois nodded as her husband flew off with Lana towards the hospital.

Hope you guys liked this chapter and see if you can guess why Lana survived the cave in and what caused it. I wonder if anyone will figure out the real reasons for both. Regardless, the truth will be revealed soon enough, but I'm curious on what your theories will be.
