Chapter 7

"So, how did you like the Fortress?" Clark asked Jonathan as they returned to the farm.

"It was awesome, though I could've gone without the hologram's attitude. Can't you reprogram it?" Jonathan asked, since his grandfather's hologram had been a jerk.

"Trust me, I've tried, but according to Kara, those kind of hologram crystals can't be reprogrammed since they actually contain a copy of the person's personality and mind. Can't alter that without wiping the crystal clean and I'm never going to do that." Clark said, since that was that hologram was as close as he'd ever get to having either of his birth parents around him.

"Fine. I guess I'll have to get used to him. But is there any chance of meeting your mom?" Jonathan asked and Clark sighed.

"Trust me son, I wish there was, but from what I can tell, they only had enough time to make a crystal of my dad's consciousness and put it in my pod." Clark said.

"What about Aunt Kara? Did she get a crystal?" Jonathan asked.

"She did, but her crystal didn't have a consciousness uploaded into it than a standard AI that takes the default form of her mom, but it can take other forms depending on the information she accesses, though she hasn't been able to pull up my mom's image in it yet." Clark explained.

"Got it. I'm gonna go tell Jordan what the hologram said." Jonathan said and Clark chuckled, right as he heard an ELT going off and Jonathan noticed the look on his father's face and he recognized.

"Is Grandpa calling you to the DOD?" Jonathan asked and Clark smiled.

"No, an old friend in Gotham. I need to go." Clark said as he shot off a quick text to Lois to let him know where he was going before flying off while Jonathan quickly realized who his dad was going to see and rushed inside to find Jordan playing video games in his room.

"Jordan, you are not going to believe this." Jonathan said.

"What, the fortress? I know it's great, but the thrill kind of dies the more times you go there." Jordan said, not looking away from his game.

"Not that. I mean I think dad is going to meet Batman." Jonathan said and that got Jordan's attention.

"What makes you think that?" Jordan asked.

"Because he just told me that he got an ELT signal from an old friend in Gotham and there's only person in that city I can think of that dad would give an ELT too. Batman." Jonathan said.

"Wait, you think dad knows who Batman is?" Jordan asked.

"I'm positive." Jonathan agreed.

"Maybe I should go after him and see if I can find out who it is." Jordan said.

"No, mom would kill you if you went to Gotham without permission. We can just ask her and dad when they get back." Jonathan said and Jordan nodded, knowing that his brother was right.

When Clark arrived in Gotham, he was surprised to find he wasn't the only old friend Bruce had called to Gotham.

"Well, well, Diana Prince, it's been a long time." Clark said as he hugged the Amazon.

"I know, I've been the worst about keeping in touch, but it isn't easy from Themyscira." Diana said and Clark chuckled.

"To be fair Diana, Clark's just as bad about keeping in touch and he isn't isolated from the rest of the world." Bruce Wayne said he entered his own office at Wayne Enterprises.

"Why did you ask us to come here Bruce? It's not like you to call for help, especially since based on what I saw and heard in Gotham, there's no need for it." Clark said.

"I didn't call you two here because of that, I called you two here to announce that I'm retiring as Batman." Bruce said.

"Wait, you're retiring?" Clark asked as he and Diana both looked at him in shock.

"Don't look so shocked. Unlike you two, I'm still subjected to father time and he's telling me that I can't keep fighting him anymore. But honestly, I've been preparing for this for a while, training someone new to take over." Bruce said.

"Who?" Diana asked, though Clark had an idea.

"My cousin Kate Kane. She's finally ready to take over as the Bat, which is good, because honestly, I don't know how much longer I could do this without losing my humanity or my soul. I feel like I'm one fight with the Joker away from crossing the line I swore I never would." Bruce said.

"I guess that makes sense. You've been doing this a long time." Clark said.

"Yeah, the reason I asked you two to come here is because the three of us are kind of this world's original heroes." Bruce said, since he, Clark and Diana had been the first superheroes the world had ever seen, though Diana had technically been the world's first hero, he'd been the second and Clark was the third.

"Yeah and now I'm guessing you want us to go out with you for retirement drinks." Clark said.

"You know me so well." Bruce said.

"I'm in, but you're buying. After all, you are the richest one in the room." Diana said and Bruce chuckled.

"Of course I am. Come on, let's go." Bruce said as the three of them left the office.

Clark was now sitting with Bruce and Diana at a bar, a line of empty shot glasses in front of them.

"So, what brings you back to the real world Diana? I thought you were pretty set on staying home when you left last time?" Clark asked.

"New developments on the Godly plane, I don't want to get into it here. But what about you? I hear that Superman hasn't been seen in Metropolis lately." Diana asked.

"Yeah, Lois and I moved the family back to my hometown of Smallville." Clark said.

"Okay, why?" Diana asked and Bruce looked at him too, also curious about that.

"Jordan is more like me than we thought." Clark said.

"So he has powers?" Bruce asked.

"Yeah, Lois and I thought it would be better for him to learn how to use them on the farm like I did than in the city. Besides, I didn't leave Metropolis undefended. James Olsen can handle it since he's a Green Lantern now." Clark said.

"Hopefully that will be enough." Bruce said.

"But seriously, how is your family?" Diana asked, since Clark was the only one of them who had a family of his own, meaning kids and a wife.

"Good. Jonathan and Jordan are both fitting in at Smallville High and Lois is actually pregnant again." Clark said.

"Boy, I hope she's only carrying one child this time, if only because it means she'll only be half as insane as you said she was when she was pregnant with the twins." Bruce said with a chuckle, which Diana shared.

"Luckily, she's only pregnant with one child this time and Lois's dad and I are already committing to making sure she takes it easy." Clark said and Bruce laughed.

"Yeah, please be sure to get those attempts on video." Bruce said and Diana laughed.

"Very funny Bruce. How are your kids doing?" Clark asked, since Bruce had adopted two kids over his life.

"Well Helena is doing great and she's coming back to Gotham." Bruce said.

"And Jason?" Diana asked, referring to Bruce's adopted son Jason Todd, who'd taken up the mantle of Robin and Bruce's sidekick.

"I'd rather not say." Bruce said.

"Things didn't go well?" Clark asked and Bruce shook his head.

"When I adopted Jason after Helena left, I thought I could train him the same way I did her. I tried my best to help him, but in the end, he was too hot headed and too reckless. I think he didn't like the fact that I didn't treat him like I did Helena, but that's because I'd been raising Helena since she was a baby. I trusted her in a way that Jason hadn't earned yet. He became so obsessed with trying to prove himself that he lost himself and one night, he went rogue and tried to prove to me that he could handle things by going after the Joker alone. He nearly killed that clown and I realized that he was too far gone. We fought and while he was good, he was too mentally unstable and I could tell that it wasn't safe to give another chance." Bruce said.

"So you locked him up in Arkham?" Diana asked in shock.

"No. Though that would've been plan B. I had him sent to an Argus blacksite. I couldn't let him be put with my worst of the worst, not just for his safety, but also because he knows my identity. I have a friend in Argus who makes sure that Jason isn't used for any of their more lucrative operations. Something that's become easier since the death of Amanda Waller." Bruce said.

"You think that was a good idea?" Diana asked.

"I think I didn't have any other choice. I couldn't let Jason do something he'd regret, but I also couldn't let him keep being reckless. I chose the lesser of all evils. Not a decision I'm happy about, but it's the one I had to make." Bruce said.

"Do you feel like you made the right choice?" Clark asked.

"Yes I do." Bruce said.

"Then we'll have to trust you made the right call. Hopefully it'll work out. But in the meantime, let's get back to what we came here for. Celebrate your retirement. Sounds like you're going to be a full time CEO." Clark said and Bruce chuckled.

"No. I'm stepping down from Wayne too, giving the whole thing to Kate, since as long as I'm in Gotham, there will always be a temptation to put the suit back on and I want to leave that life behind me. Let a new generation take over. Something you two will eventually have to consider." Bruce said.

"Keep dreaming." Diana said with a smirk as they resumed drinking.

Yes, that's right, not only did I bring Batman and Wonder Woman into this chapter, I also confirmed that Jason Todd's Robin exists, since I finally got into Titans and while that team won't be getting it's own story, I do have plans to bring different members of that team into different stories in different capacities. I hope you like what I come up with, since I have to warn you, some of the titans I bring in will not be the same versions that appear in the show. They'll be my versions of them, though they might have similarities with the show. I just wanted to clear that up now.
