Chapter 4
"Wait, you're taking Jonathan to the Fortress?" Jordan asked after his father told him and his mother where he was taking Jonathan.
"Yes I am, because even though Jonathan hasn't shown the same powers like you have Jordan, he's still half kryptonian, which means he has a right to learn about his heritage." Clark said.
"You wouldn't be doing this if you didn't have another reason." Lois said.
"You're right. I have a theory I need my father to confirm." Clark said.
"And that theory is?" Lois asked.
"I think that Jonathan does absorb solar radiation like Jordan does, his body just processes it differently so that instead of enhancing his physical attributes, it boosts his mental abilities." Clark said.
"You think that the sun is responsible for Jonathan's high intelligence." Lois said and she had to admit, it was a decent theory.
"So you think that Jonathan gets to be a genius instead of having powers like me?" Jordan asked.
"It's a theory, but even if I'm wrong, we've kept this part of Jonathan's heritage from him for too long. So, I'm taking him to the Fortress. Speaking of which, Jonathan, you better go bundle up, since it's pretty cold where we're going." Clark said and Jonathan nodded as he headed up to his room to get his winter stuff.
"Dad, are you sure that Jonathan needs to go to the Fortress for this?" Jordan asked, since it was clear that he wasn't thrilled about this.
"Jordan, I know you may not want to hear this, but Jonathan has just as much of a right to see the Fortress as you do, since even if he doesn't have traditional powers, he's still have Kryptonian, which means that what's up at the Fortress is as much his right as it yours. I don't want to hear another word about this from you. Especially considering everything your brother has given up because of you." Clark reminded him.
"He's right, Jordan. Jonathan literally gave up his whole life when we moved here and one of the main reasons we moved here was so that you can learn to use your powers safely like your father did. The least you can do to thank him for that is to not complain that your father is finally sharing the kryptonian side of his heritage to him, since in all honesty, he should've taken Jonathan to the Fortress at the same time he took you." Lois said and Jordan backed down, since in addition to knowing that his parents were right, he also knew from experience not to argue with his mom, especially since she was pregnant, if only because it made her even scarier than she already was.
"Did I miss something?" Jonathan asked as he came back downstairs, all bundled up in his winter clothes, even though it was the middle of summer.
"No, I just needed to have a talk with your brother about something. Let me grab my jacket and then we'll head up to the Fortress." Clark said and Jonathan nodded as Clark grabbed his jacket and the two headed out.
"Don't even think about trying to follow them young man." Lois said to her other son, since she could see the look on Jordan's face.
"I can't fly mom. At least not yet." Jordan said.
"And even if you could, you're not following them. In fact, I want you to go to your room and think about what your father and I just told you." Lois said and Jordan could tell from his mother's voice that she was not asking him to do that, she was telling him.
When they arrived at the Fortress, Jonathan found himself freezing immediately.
"Damn, you said it would be cold, but this is freezing. Why would you build your fortress in the middle of the Arctic?" Jonathan asked and Clark had to stop himself from chuckling at that.
"Because it's the last place anyone would think to look. But don't worry, it's a lot warmer inside." Clark said as he revealed the key to the fortress and picked it up.
"So, one of the most secure places on the planet and you just hide the key under the mat?" Jonathan asked and Clark chuckled.
"What?" Jonathan asked.
"Your aunt had a similar reaction when I showed her the Fortress for the first time. Though she didn't complain about the cold, but then again, that's probably because she wasn't affected by the temperature. But anyways, this key is made out of a thousand tons of condensed dwarf star, aka, one of the densest substances in the universe, so only a few people can pick it up and by a few people, I mean me and your aunt, since even Jordan isn't strong enough to pick it up yet." Clark said and Jonathan nodded as he watched his dad place the key into what had to be a keyhole carved into the ice and he was stunned as he watched the ice slide away to reveal the Fortress of Solitude.
"Whoa, this place is amazing." Jonathan said as they walked in and he was relieved to find that his dad was right, the Fortress was a lot warmer than it was outside.
"Yeah, welcome to the Fortress of Solitude. A piece of Krypton here on Earth." Clark said as Jonathan saw the statues.
"Are those your parents?" Jonathan asked and Clark nodded.
"Yeah, they are. Jonathan, those are your grandma Lara and grandpa Jor-El and the planet they're holding up is Krypton." Clark said.
"It's like a shrine to them." Jonathan said.
"In a way, yes. But come on." Clark said as he led Jonathan over to the main control console and Jonathan was surprised when he saw a robot float over to them.
"Greetings Master Kal, who have you brought with you?" the robot asked.
"Kelex, this is my other son Jonathan. You'll give him the same level of access his brother Jordan has." Clark said.
"So limited access to files without your permission and no access anywhere but this chamber?" Kelex said.
"Exactly." Clark said.
"Seriously dad?" Jonathan asked.
"I'm serious Jonathan. You're lucky I'm giving you this level of access. You'll get full fortress access when you turn 18, just like your brother will, but a lot of the stuff I have here is kept here because of how dangerous it is. What I have in here is nothing too dangerous, just a few mementos I've collected." Clark said, making it clear that this was not up for debate.
"Fair enough." Jonathan said, since he knew was lucky to see any of Krypton.
"What?" Clark asked.
"Do I at least get access to Krypton's history?" Jonathan asked and Clark smiled, since that was something he was happy to hear his son ask.
"Of course you do. I told you I'm not trying to keep your heritage from you, but I'm also not letting you get access to anything that could get you killed." Clark said and Jonathan nodded.
"Anyways, Kelex, pull up my father's AI, I need to speak with him about something." Clark said.
"Right away Master Kal." Kelex said as he floated away and shortly after, a hologram of a man with black with touches of grey in it hair and a matching goatee wearing a black version of Clark's superman suit with a silver s on the chest appeared.
"Hello my son. I understand you need to talk to me." the hologram form of Jor-El said.
