Chapter 34

"I see that the red sun cell came in handy after all." Superman said to Sam as they stood outside the cell housing the young man Lucy had reported, though he was now wearing DOD sweats.

"I told you we'd never use it on you unless you went rogue and it's not like we're using Kryptonite." Sam said.

"No, that seems more like the DEO's department." Superman agreed.

"Yeah, I know you don't agree with that, but your cousin seems too, but anyways, let's see what we've got on our John Doe here." Sam said as one of the DOD's scientists approached.

"Well, is this another Kryptonian?" Superman asked.

"No. It looks like some kind of attempt to combine your DNA with human DNA. An attempt at cloning." the scientist said.

"Wait, are you sure?" Superman asked.

"Positive. The only reason we were able to collect his DNA now is because his cells have been deprived of solar radiation. It looks like he burned up what little power he had making his little entrance with Major Lane." The scientist said.

"What are the results of the test?" Sam asked.

"We're still going over the data. His DNA profile is more complex than anything we've ever seen before." the scientist said.

"Give me a sample of his DNA and I'll take it to my fortress. The technology there is more advanced, so hopefully we can speed this up." Superman said, though he was concerned, both Jonathan and Jordan were half human and half kryptonian, but they're DNA wasn't that much more complex than a regular person's.

"Do it. In the meantime, see if we can figure out exactly where this kid came from. Use whatever you need to track his flight path." Sam said.

"Yes sir." the scientist said.

"Well?" Clark asked his father's hologram after letting him examine the blood sample the DOD had taken from this apparent clone of him.

"Hmm, it's very intriguing. While this is the DNA of a human/kryptonian hybrid, the sample is far more complex than Jonathan or Jordan's likely due to a number of modifications made to it, including the fact that this clone you spoke of is likely much younger than he looks." Jor-El said.

"That much I guessed. We guessed that they got the Kryptonian DNA from me, since I've been active far longer than Kara has, but who's human DNA was used to create him?" Clark asked.

"That's where it gets complicated. According to my tests, it would appear that while his DNA is 50 percent you, but the other 50 percent comes from Lex Luthor." Jor-El said.

"Well that explains it. Lex is the only person on the planet with the skills and the motive to do something like this. An attempt to create the perfect weapon against me. Something with my powerse, but his agenda. A Kryptonian that he can control." Clark said, thinking of what Kara had told him about Red Daughter in the old reality.

"Indeed and it appears that several of the modifications were made by Mr. Luthor in an attempt to bypass the restrictions the human DNA would put on the powers, as well as trying to use his human nature to shield him against Kryptonite poisoning." Jor-El said.

"And how well did that work?" Clark asked.

"I cannot tell based on these samples. I'd need to actually examine the subject to get these kinds of results." Jor-El said.

"I figured as much. Besides, I got what I initially came here for." Clark said.

"Kal, you must remember that while this clone may be a creation of your enemy, the fact remains that it sounds like he was created the same way most children on Krypton were and the fact that your DNA was used to help create him means that this clone is also a member of the house of El. You cannot allow your prejudice against Lex Luthor to blind you to that fact." Jor-El said.

"And I won't. If I can handle Kara dating Lex's sister, then this is nothing. Besides, the kid wasn't born evil. What he becomes is a result of nurture, not nature." Clark said, though he was wondering what he was going to do, since he wasn't going to leave the clone or rather, his son, at the DOD indefinitely, but he also knew that he couldn't take him home to Smallville either. He'd need to find another solution to make sure that this kid walked the right path. And luckily, he knew someone who might be able to give him some advice in that department.
