Chapter 3

Okay, before the chapter starts, I have a quick question to ask you guys. I've been rewatching seasons one through three of Black Lightning and I have to admit, I'm kind of getting my mojo back for it. The question is, are you guys interested in having Black Lightning officially join the series.

Jonathan Kent was currently in the barn of the Kent family farm, which he'd turned into his own little home workshop after his family had moved to Smallville. The one thing he'd asked his parents for when they'd moved to Smallville. In exchange for not putting up a fight about having to uproot his entire life to move to middle of nowhere Smallville, they'd let him finally have a place where he could put his brain to use, since when he was at school, both in Metropolis and in Smallville, he had to dial back his intelligence a notch so that she just seemed like a regular smart kid, along with a talented athlete, even though his parents had had him tested when he was a kid just because of how often he'd take things apart and more importantly, how quickly he'd put them back together.

The tests had revealed that Jonathan actually had a genius level IQ, even as a kid and for some reason he'd never understood, his parents had made him act dumber than he was. Of course, they still encouraged him to use his brain to pass his classes, but they wouldn't let him use his intelligence to his full capacity and until recently, he thought it was because they didn't want him to overshadow Jordan even more than he already did as a football star. Then he found out that not only was his dad Superman, but that his twin brother Jordan had inherited powers from their father and he'd gotten bupkis. So instead, he convinced his parents to let him use the barn as a workshop as some kind of consolation. But it still wasn't fair. Especially since ever since Jordan had gotten his powers, it was almost like his parents had forgotten about him, especially since they found out that his mom was pregnant.

Lately his main confidant had been his aunt Kara, who, while she wasn't his dad's sister, she was the only living blood related family he had and she acted like she was his little sister. But anyways, after they'd moved and Jonathan found himself being kind of pushed to the side, he began reaching out to his aunt, who told him that if he ever needed someone to talk to, he could call her.

However, Jonathan was pulled from his thoughts when he heard the familiar sound of his dad landing and heard him walking into the barn.

"Dad, what are you doing here? I thought we agreed that the barn was my private space." Jonathan asked, not unkindly, just reminding his dad of their agreement and Clark chuckled.

"Relax, I was just curious about what you're working on. Looks like some kind of exosuit? You're not getting any ideas are you?" Clark asked, concerned and Jonathan chuckled.

"No. For one thing, the parts I have to work with are scrap metal that I salvage, so not a lot I can do with that. This is actually something I'm working to help Jordan." Jonathan said, since what he was currently working on vaguely resemble something humanoid.

"How will this help Jordan?" Clark asked, curiously.

"Because if he's gonna learn to control his strength, he's gonna need to be able to hit something that won't be hurt by it. I thought that this might be a good way for that." Jonathan said and Clark smiled.

"That's smart. In fact, I'll talk to your grandfather, see if he can do anything to help you get better parts." Clark said.

"Really?" Jonathan asked, surprised and Clark nodded.

"Yeah, look Jon, I know that this move has been tough on you and I don't think that you're mom and I have fully appreciated how much of a good sport you've been about it." Clark said.

"You've been busy helping Jordan not expose you both. I get it." Jonathan said, but Clark shook his head.

"No, that's no excuse. You're our son too Jon and it's not fair that we just expect you to be okay with all this and put so much attention on your brother and your unborn sibling that you fell through the cracks a bit and I'm sorry." Clark said and Jon couldn't believe it.

"It's okay dad. I know you're doing your best, but I know I can't deny that it did hurt watching you and mom kind of put my feelings to the side just because I don't have powers." Jonathan said.

"I can guess how that might suck, but Jon, I think that you do have a power, but none of us realized it until now." Clark said.

"What are you talking about? I don't have super strength or heat vision or any of the other stuff you and Jordan have." Jonathan said.

"True, but I think that's just because the energy from the yellow effects you differently. After all, you are a lot smarter than other kids your age." Clark said.

"Wait, you think that my intelligence is my superpower?" Jonathan asked incredulously.

"I don't know for sure, but I think I know a place we can go for answers one way or another." Clark said.

"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" Jonathan asked eagerly.

"Yep, let's go tell your mom and brother that we're going to the Fortress. Besides, both of them have already been there, I think it's long past time you saw it too." Clark said and Jonathan nodded eagerly, since he was happy to finally get to see the fortress and see a piece of his father's world.
