Chapter 21
Lana barely managed to get Sarah away from the crowds before she finally fired two red lasers out of her eyes that were only blocked by Clark putting his hand over Sarah's eyes, which would definitely lead to more questions, but right now, Lana was just happy that Clark had prevented Sarah from hurting anyone.
"How did I do that?" Sarah asked when she finally felt the lasers stop shooting and she could almost feel smoke coming out of her eyes and she was also wondering how she hadn't burned off Mr. Kent's hand.
"We need to go home. I promise I'll explain everything there." Lana said, though she had been hoping that she'd never have to have this conversation or do what she'd need to do after they had that chat.
"I'm not going anywhere until I get some answers." Sarah insisted and Lana sighed.
"Fine. Clark, would you mind?" Lana asked, since all the secrets were going to need to come out after this.
"Yeah. Hang on." Clark said and then to Sarah's shock, Clark picked up both her and her mother each in one arm without so much as breaking a sweat and she was even more shocked when he actually lifted up off the ground and flew them away so fast she didn't even have to time to realize who he was before they returned to her house.
"You're Superman?" Sarah asked Clark.
"I am and that's not even the most surprising thing you're going to learn today, but can you please hold off on your questions until we get inside." Clark said and Sarah nodded, only because she was even more eager for answers than she was before.
"Wait, not only is Mr. Kent from Krypton, but you are too?" Sarah asked her mother in shock after Lana told her the truth.
"Yes. He and I are both refugees on this planet. It's sheer coincidence that both of our pods crashed here in Smallville. Clark's crashed on the Kent farm which is why he was adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent and my pod crashed near your grandparents' house. We didn't even know each other's secrets until we were in high school." Lana said.
"Wait, do you have powers like Mr. Kent does?" Sarah asked, wondering why her mom had never used them.
"I used to. But I gave up my powers years ago. It's part of why Clark and I broke up. We decided to go different paths. He chose to keep his powers and become Superman while I wanted to just settle down and live a normal life." Lana said.
"Why would you ever want to give those powers up?" Sarah asked immediately and Clark chuckled.
"I asked her the same question when she told me her decision." Clark said and Lana chuckled, remembering the look on Clark's face when she'd told him about her decision.
"It's not as glamorous as you might think. After I gave up my powers, it felt like this weight was lifted off my shoulders, since I could finally truly fit in with other people. I didn't have to worry about slipping up and the benefit of not having people shoot at me was a plus." Lana said.
"What?" Sarah asked.
"After we discovered that we both had powers, your mom and I formed a small crime fighting team here in Smallville." Clark explained.
"Wow, that is so cool. Why didn't you ever tell me about this?" Sarah asked.
"Because I was hoping that you and your sister wouldn't inherit my physiology, especially since I was basically human when I had both of you." Lana said.
"Wait, do Jonathan and Jordan have powers like me?" Sarah asked.
"Jordan does. I've been teaching him to control his powers ever since we moved to Smallville and while Jon doesn't have typical Kryptonian powers, exposure to Earth's yellow sun is part of why he's so smart." Clark said.
"And they didn't tell me?" Sarah asked.
"Sarah, Lois and I wouldn't let them tell anyone for safety reasons. If my identity was exposed, it would put a target on the backs of everyone I care about. My family, my friends, everyone." Clark said and Sarah nodded.
"And I didn't want to put the weight of that secret on your shoulders." Lana said.
"So, will Mr. Kent teach me to control these powers too?" Sarah asked.
"No I will." Lana said.
"But mom, you don't have powers anymore." Sarah reminded her.
"That can be easily fixed." Lana said, looking at Clark.
"You still have the crystal?" Clark asked her.
"It's in my closet locked up in a lead lined box, since like you said, there was always a chance I might need my powers back. And I have to admit, I have missed being able to fly." Lana said.
"Wait, will I be able to fly?" Sarah asked eagerly.
"Jordan hasn't been able to yet, so we don't know. Based on what my father's AI at my fortress says, being half human might prevent you from developing all the powers of a full kryptonian, but you never know." Clark said as he quickly retrieved the crystal.
"So, you ready for a trip?" Clark asked Lana.
"After Sarah and I have bundled up. After all, right now, I can still be affected by the cold. I won't miss that." Lana admitted as she went to get hers and Sarah's winter clothes out of storage.
