Chapter 14

When Superman arrived at the cabin, he saw that apparently he'd missed a party since it looked like a few cars were parked in front of the cabin and he immediately flew into the already opened door, only to be hit on the back of the head by a fire poker, causing him to turn to see Lucy Lane standing there, looking scared and holding the fire poker.

"Ms. Lane." Superman said casually.

"Oh my god, I am so sorry Superman. I've been in attack mode ever since some of Ally's thugs showed up." Lucy said, embarrassed as Superman noticed the men that were currently knocked out on the ground.

"Don't worry, it's fine. It's not like that really hurt me anyways. Lois is letting the DOD know to expect you. We need to go now." Superman said.

"Not yet." Lucy said, and to Superman's surprise, she quickly moved to pry a floorboard out of the way and she pulled something out of the floor.

"What is that?" Superman asked.

"I don't know. But what I do know is that it's something that Ally cares about deeply. It's why she doesn't want me back, she wants me dead. I don't know what it is, but what I do know is that it's dangerous." Lucy said as she held out a strange pendant.

"Dangerous how?" Superman asked.

"I don't know. All I know for sure is that I watched her use it to kill someone else. Now can we please go before more of her goon squad show up?" Lucy asked as she also grabbed her gun too and Superman nodded.

"Hold on tight." Superman said as he grabbed Lucy and flew her out of the cabin.

"Lucy." Lois said when her husband arrived at the DOD, where she and her father were waiting, with her sister.

"Lois." Lucy said in shock as her big sister hugged her without hesitation.

"Are you okay?" Lois asked, inspecting her little sister for injuries.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just shocked that you're so concerned about me." Lucy said.

"Lucy, do you really think that dad and I held what happened against you? That was Ally's doing, not yours. And you came to your senses about her and you got out." Lois said and Lucy nodded.

"I did." Lucy said, right as her father hugged her.

"I'm so happy to have you back Lucy." Sam said.

"Thank you." Lucy said, relieved that her family was taking her back.

"She also comes bearing a gift." Superman said and Lucy nodded as she pulled out the pendant.

"What is that?" Lois asked.

"I don't know. But what I do know is that this thing is more dangerous than any weapon in this room, since I saw Ally use it to somehow kill one of my friends. I don't know how she did it, but what I do know is that it's Ally's most prized possession and that stealing it is the reason she put a price on my head." Lucy said.

"What do you think?" Sam asked Superman.

"I think that if my experience with your daughter has taught me anything, it's that looks can be deceiving. Just because something doesn't look dangerous doesn't mean it isn't." Superman said and Lois looked very smug at hearing her husband say that as Sam chuckled.

"Fair point." Sam said, since he'd been on the receiving end of Lois's temper himself a few times and in a few months she'd be at her most dangerous, since Lois's temper would be at its worst when she was in the final trimester of her pregnancy. Or at least that had been the case when she'd been pregnant with the boys.

"Anyways, I'll take the pendant to my fortress and run some tests on it, see if I can find out what makes it so dangerous, but in the meantime, Lucy will need protection, since Ally will likely come for her and this and I don't think she'll be very welcome, if the knocked out thugs I saw at the cabin when I arrived were any indication." Superman said.

"Get a team up there to arrest those thugs immediately. I want them in interrogation before the sun comes up." Sam said to his subordinates, who nodded before they rushed off.

"What about me?" Lucy asked.

"You can come stay with us on the farm? The boys would love to see her again and she could help out in preparing for the new addition and I'm not just talking about the house." Lois said, since she and Clark had decided to add another wing to the farmhouse to better accommodate their growing family.

"Wait Lois, are you?" Lucy asked and Lois smiled.

"Yeah Luce, I'm pregnant again." Lois said.

"Then I can't stay with you, since the last thing I want is to put you, the baby and the rest of your family in danger." Lucy said, not noticing the looks Superman was exchanging with her father and sister.

"Actually, staying with Lois might be the safest thing for you to do right now." Sam said after seeing they were all in agreement.

"What are you talking about?" Lucy asked.

"Because I'm your brother-in-law." Superman said as Lucy took a close look at him.

"Wait, Clark? You're Superman?" Lucy asked, trying to wrap her head around the idea that Lois had married Superman.

"Yeah and I'd like you to keep that to yourself. But yes, I am and I think now you know why it's safest for you to stay with us." Superman said and Lucy nodded.

"Are you sure I wouldn't be putting you out?" Lucy asked.

"We insist on it." Lois said.

"Okay." Lucy relented, hoping that she wasn't making a huge mistake, but also feeling happy that she was finally reconciling with her family.
