Chapter 13

"So wait, this John Henry guy is actually a survivor from Crisis?" Lois asked that night after Clark told her about their new visitor.

"Yeah. Luckily, your dad didn't ask too many questions about the energy Irons said destroyed his universe, since I'm not sure how I'd explain that. Your dad just seemed to assume that it was something that was contained to Irons' universe." Clark said.

"It's best if we let him think that way." Lois said and Clark nodded.

"I did tell Mr. Irons that we'd keep an eye out in case any other survivors from his world end up making their way here, since if he survived, it's possible others did too and I'm hoping that his daughter was one of them." Clark said.

"Yeah, me too. Though I have to admit, I do like the name Natalie. After my grandmother." Lois said and Clark nodded.

"Think we should name our daughter that?" Clark asked.

"Not sure. Though another choice is always Ella." Lois said.

"After your mom?" Clark asked.

"I know she abandoned the family, but still." Lois said.

"It is a nice name. Luckily, we still have some time." Clark said, since Lois was still relatively early in her pregnancy.

"Anyways, so this John Henry guy was married to both me and Kara on his world?" Lois asked.

"Yeah and then he asked to see Kara and I think we both know how awkward that would be." Clark said.

"Especially since we both know Kara is mooning over your archenemy's little sister?" Lois asked with a chuckle.

"Yeah, still not sure how I feel about that, since from what I heard, Lena wasn't exactly the best version of herself before Crisis." Clark said.

"Well, it's not your choice to make. If Kara ends up working things out with Lena, then you will be supportive of that, especially since we both know Lex and Lillian won't." Lois and Clark nodded.

"I know. But still, you can't blame me for being protective. I mean, we both heard about what Kara was like after she sent Mon-El away." Clark said and Lois nodded.

"I still can't believe she had the strength to do that." Lois said, since while she'd already loved and respected Kara, her respect for her had gone up even higher after hearing about the sacrifice she'd made.

"She made a sacrifice that honestly, I'm not sure if I could've made. A choice between you or the world." Clark said.

"And you really need to work through that, Clark, because no matter how much you love me, you can't put me before the rest of the planet. You have to remember that the lives of everyone on Earth outweigh just one. Even mine." Lois told her husband, since honestly, she was concerned that he'd be willing to risk the fates of everyone on Earth just to save her. She knew that one day, he would have to make that choice. She just hoped that when the time came, she could trust him to make the one that was best for everyone. Not just for him.

"I know. But I can't help it. Sometimes, when it comes to you, I don't always think straight." Clark said and Lois smiled.

"I understand. But Clark, I want you to promise me something right now." Lois said.

"What is it?" Clark asked, even though he was pretty sure he knew what it was.

"I want you to promise me that if you ever do have to make that choice, that you'll make the choice to save everyone, not just me. Promise me that if you have to choose between me or the world, you'll choose the world." Lois said.

"Lois." Clark said, wishing she wasn't asking him to make that promise.

"Clark, promise me." Lois said, making it clear that she wasn't dropping this until he promised her.

"Okay, I promise." Clark said, though it was clear that he did not like making this promise.

"Good. Now, let's go get ready for bed." Lois said, since it was getting late. But before she could, her phone rang and Lois was surprised when it was an unknown number.

"Hello?" Lois asked, only to be shocked by the voice on the other end.

"Lois, it's Lucy." Lucy said and Lois could hear the panic in her sister's voice.

"Lucy, what's wrong?" Lois asked.

"Lois, I'm in trouble. Big trouble. I can't tell you much over the phone, just because I can't waste much time standing around. I need to keep moving." Lucy said.

"Lucy, what is going on?" Lois asked.

"I'll tell you everything when I see you in person, but for now, all I'll say is that you were right about Ally and I need help getting away from her." Lucy said and Lois immediately went into full alert.

"Why call me and not dad?" Lois asked.

"Because you can get Superman to me much faster." Lucy said.

"Where are you?" Lois asked, though she gestured to Clark to start using his super hearing to listen in and track it.

"I'm at our family's old cabin in Metropolis. It's the closest safe place I could think of to get off the grid. Please, hurry." Lucy said.

"I'll get Superman there as soon as I can and I'll call dad and let him know to be prepared for you." Lois said.

"Thank you Lois. But please hurry, I don't know how long I have until they find me." Lucy said and both Clark and Lois could hear the fear in her voice.

"Just hang in there Lucy. I'll see you soon." Lois said as she hung up.

"Get her to the DOD now. I'll call my dad, let him know to expect you and her." Lois said to her husband.

"I'm on my way." Clark said and just like that, Superman was gone.
