Chapter 9
When Nia opened her eyes, she found herself back in her childhood home of Parthas.
"Nia, are you okay?" she heard her mom Isabel asked and Nia smiled as she saw her mom standing in front of her alive.
"Yeah, just a strange dream. I think it's telling me that I need to confront Maeve. My anger towards her is blocking my ability to fully master my powers." Nia said, telling her mom a version of the truth.
"Are you sure you want to do that?" her mom asked.
"No, but it's something that I need to do and something that honestly, I've put off doing for too long. It's time I finally put Maeve in her place." Nia said, since honestly, the anger she felt coming up at thinking about her sister feeling like it had been repressed for years.
"Do you know where she is?" her mom asked, since Maeve had been out of touch with her family since she'd basically disowned Nia as a sister.
"Yeah, in my dream, I saw a place. Crippen University. It's a college in National City (I don't know if that's where the school actually is, but for the sake of this story, that's where it is here). I think that's where she's working." Nia said.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Isabel asked.
"No mom, this is something I need to do myself. I need to face Maeve and finally hold her accountable for her actions." Nia said and Isabel nodded, knowing her youngest daughter was right.
"If you do manage to get through to her, tell her to call us. She's been away for far too long." Isabel said and Nia nodded as she hugged her mom before going to pack her things so she could return to National City.
When Nia arrived at Crippen University, she headed to the office she saw in her dream, for a Dr. Revee, and it was clear to Nia that was the name Maeve was going under, since she'd clearly changed her name when she'd left home, which caused Nia to roll her eyes, since Nia had always thought that her big sister was a bit of a drama queen.
Anyways, Nia took a deep breath when she arrived at the office door before she knocked and sure enough, when the door opened she found her sister on the other side.
"Nia." Maeve said in surprise at seeing her little sister, but before Nia could say a word, she tried to close the door, only to have Nia catch it.
"Don't. We need to talk, and when I say talk, I mean I'm going to talk and you're going to listen and before you even think about it, you don't have a choice about it. Especially since you and I both know that I could destroy your career right now." Nia said.
"Meaning what?" Maeve asked.
"How do you think your boss, the dean of a university, would react if he found out that you rejected your own sister as a member of the trans community?" Nia asked, since while she could just knock the door down with her powers, she wanted to enjoy the look on Maeve's face as she said this.
"Fine. Come in." Maeve said, knowing that Nia would not hesitate to do that to her after what she said.
"Good." Nia said as she stepped into Maeve's office.
"So." Maeve said, only to be stopped when Nia dream blasted her into a wall.
"What the hell?" Maeve asked as she got to her feet, feeling pain.
"You have no idea how long I've been wanting to do that." Nia said angrily.
"How did you do that?" Maeve asked.
"Really, I thought that you would've known what the Dreamer can do considering how much of your life you spent thinking you'd be the dreamer. With absolutely no cause by the way." Nia said angrily.
"Nia." Maeve tried to argue, only to be silenced by the furious look on her little sister's face, especially since it looked like Nia's eyes were glowing blue.
"No, like I said, I'm going to talk and you're going to listen. I didn't ask for this power, but I'm so glad that I'm the one who got it instead of you, since you don't deserve it. You never did. You never really cared about using the powers to help other people. You only cared about what they could do for you. You're not the Dreamer and you never will be. I mean look at what you did. You told me I wasn't a real woman literally two weeks after I had my procedure. And even before that, when you thought you were the one getting the powers, you were insufferable. Talking about all the different things you'd do when you were the Dreamer when you never deserved it to begin with." Nia said angrily.
"I spent my life studying to become the dreamer." Maeve protested.
"And that's your fault. You wasted your whole life preparing for something that was never guaranteed and then you lashed out at me when I was at my most vulnerable and then you abandoned your whole family. Does any of that sound like something the Dreamer would do? You abandoned me when I needed my big sister the most. You don't deserve to be the Dreamer. So instead of spending your life being angry about something that's petty and selfish, maybe spend your life trying to fix the bridges you burned." Nia said angrily, more just saying that to get her anger off her chest, since she'd been wanting to yell at Maeve for years and now she was finally doing it.
And now that she had, she finally began to calm down as the energy in her eyes began to fade.
"I hope that someday you'll be able to come to your senses and maybe when you do, you'll be able to salvage some kind of relationship with mom and dad, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to forget or forgive you for what you've done. But I do hope that you think about what I said Maeve. I hope you actually decide to think about someone other than yourself for once. Maybe then you can start to rebuild your life and family. And I won't tell your boss how you treated me, but that's because I don't want to stoop to your level. Goodbye Maeve." Nia said as she walked out of her sister's office, completely not sorry about anything she'd said or done to Maeve, since she'd deserved it and more importantly, Nia felt like her journey was finally complete, just like the OG Dreamer had told her it would be. It was time for her to rejoin her friends in National City. Her real family.
