Chapter 32
Now that Rankin was in prison and Alex was home from the hospital, Kara could finally get back to both of her jobs as both a reporter and as Supergirl. Which was why she was currently sitting at her desk, working on her latest story. She loved her new position at Catco, since she was hoping that it would prevent Agent Liberty from rising or getting any followers, since she was promoting pro alien values. And it was nice to be able to write about something besides her own exploits as Supergirl, though she had to admit, it was a nice way to get some free advertising.
She was currently working on a story when her phone rang and she saw it was J'onn.
"What's going on?" Kara asked.
"Our scanners just detected one of your old playmates heading towards National City now." J'onn said.
"Which one?" Kara asked, already preparing to go Supergirl, very happy that she had her own office now, since it made it easier for her to slip in and out undetected, especially since Brainy had installed a sensor in her office that hacked the security camera to cover for her whenever she left via the window.
"One of your first enemies from when you first became active and the one who kind of put you on the map." J'onn said and Kara groaned.
"Please tell me it's not who I think it is." Kara asked.
"He's big, mean and he's coming after you to get back at your cousin for not saving his wife." J'onn confirmed.
"Reactron. I'd honestly forgotten about him considering how early on he was and he was kind of just a villain of the week." Kara said.
"And now you know enough to take him down in one fight. Get moving so you can intercept him before he arrives in the city and does any real damage." J'onn said.
"I'm on my way." Kara said as she suited up and flew out of the window of her office, which she'd had renovated to have a balcony like Cat's, to provide her with a quick way in and out.
As soon as Supergirl was in the air, she saw Reactron waiting for her in the skies.
"I've been waiting for you." Reactron said to her and Supergirl rolled her eyes, trying to figure out the best way to remove the power core from his suit, though that would first require encasing her fist in lead to remove the core safely.
However, she didn't get a chance to think about that anymore when she took a blast from Reactron's gauntlets right in the chest, sending her flying backwards.
"Damn, I forgot how much that hurt." Supergirl said, since Reactron's blasts were some of the few things on Earth strong enough to cause her any pain. But she didn't waste anymore time before she quickly went on the offense, flying towards Reactron at superspeed while dodging his other blasts before slamming into him with so much force that the created a shockwave that knocked them apart.
"Damn, I think you hit harder than your cousin does." Reactron admitted as he regained his bearings.
"And I fight smarter." Supergirl said as she proceeded to punch him again.
"Supergirl, what's the status?" J'onn asked in her ear, wondering if they needed to tag in.
"Much better than it was last time. I just need to figure out how to remove that core without nuking the city, since I don't have any lead around to encase my hand in." Supergirl said as she continued fighting Reactron, their fight turning more brutal as Reactron realized that Supergirl wasn't the inexperienced lightweight he was expecting and he now fought her harder than before, since now he knew he was going to need to treat her with the same level of seriousness that he treated her cousin with everytime they fought.
"Your kryptonite suit has lead lined gloves. You can use them to safely remove that core." J'onn said and Supergirl grinned, once again silently thanking her girlfriend for building her that suit, which she quickly activated, since it would also provide her with better protection from Reactron's energy blasts.
"Time to end this." Supergirl said as she let him blast her again, but now she could just fly right into it and maneuvered things so that the only way to keep her from reaching him was by flying lower, her suit still protecting from his blasts until she slammed into the ground.
"No." Reactron said, unable to believe that he'd already been beaten as Supergirl reached down and used her gloved hand to reach down and yank the power core straight from his suit, rendering him powerless.
"I am truly sorry for what happened to your wife Mr. Krull, but I think it's a good thing that she's not here to see what you've become and all the things you've done in her name." Supergirl said and she shot up into the sky and flew straight for space.
"Time to get rid of this thing for good." Supergirl said as she looked down at the nuclear power core in her fist as she finally arrived in space.
"Supergirl, what are you doing?" J'onn asked.
"Letting this thing go off in the only place it won't hurt anyone." Supergirl said as she tossed the core as far away from Earth as she could and watched it detonate in the distance.
"Good riddance." Supergirl said, glad that core was gone for good before returning to the surface, landing on top of Reactron, who was trying to get back up as she deactivated her kryptonite suit and kept her foot on his chest to keep him pinned down.
"I will have my revenge for what happened to my wife." Reactron said as Supergirl ripped his helmet off and tossed it to the side.
"What happened to your wife was not Superman's fault. I hope that one day you can accept that." Supergirl said as National City Police walked up and took Reactron away.
"This isn't over." Reactron promised as he was forced into the police cruiser.
"I think it is." Supergirl said as she watched him drive away.
"You show him too much mercy." A new voice said and Supergirl turned to see Non land in front of her and she groaned.
"You really want to do this now?" Supergirl asked as she tossed the helmet to the side.
"Consider yourself lucky I didn't strike when you were distracted." Non said as his forces landed all around her.
"Really, an ambush now?" Supergirl asked, since this was a classic Non maneuver.
"Yes and we're jamming your communications so none of your little friends can hear you call for help?" Non said.
"Of course, you're too much of a coward to beat me in a fair fight." Supergirl said, since normally she wouldn't be that concerned, but her battle with Reactron had taken more out of her than she'd originally thought.
"I prefer to think of it as assuring my victory." Non said and Supergirl sighed.
"Okay then, let's do this." Supergirl said.
"You really think that you beat us all while you're still exhausted from your previous fight?" Non asked.
"I think I'm not gonna let that stop me from taking you all down." Supergirl said, hoping that since they were still in a public place in National City that her team would find out about this and come to help her as her next fight began.
