Chapter 13

After she changed out of her super suit, Kara took the elevator up to Lena's office at L-Corp to find both Alex and Lena waiting for her.

"Are you guys okay?" Kara asked.

"Yeah, thanks to you." Lena said as Kara hugged both her and Alex.

"Yeah, definitely a bit different than the last time you revealed yourself to the world." Alex said.

"Really, because I still did it to save your life. Only this time it was during the day and I didn't wind up taking a trip in the bay afterward." Kara said.

"Think there's any chance of recovering his remains when they land?" Lena asked, curiously.

"No. Lillian made sure that the explosion completely vaporized him. No way to trace him back to her." Kara said.

"But we've got something even better. Surveillance footage of Corben admitting that Lex hired him to kill Lena." Alex said.

"That should help us keep Lex in prison. Though now that I think about it, shouldn't all of his assets have been frozen when he was arrested?" Kara asked Lena.

"You really think Lex wouldn't have hidden bank accounts in case he went to prison, since all the accounts that I know he has public were frozen upon his arrest." Lena said.

"Good point. I guess I'm gonna start working on my Pulitzer now, since now I already know where to start poking around in my Lex Luthor investigation." Kara said.

"Yeah, it looks like if you weren't already Cat's favorite reporter, you're about to be when you deliver the story of the year." Alex said.

"I'm not Cat's favorite." Kara said.

"Yes you are." Alex and Lena both said at once.

"Whatever. Alex, has Lena earned your trust back?" Kara asked, changing the topic.

"Yes. Building that suit and keeping you alive definitely helped her gain some points with me." Alex admitted.

"So I don't have to worry about you shooting me?" Lena asked.

"Only if you betray us again and even then, I'll let Kara handle you. The only Luthors I want to shoot are Lex and Lillian." Alex said.

"And I am more than fine with that, since there is no lost love between my family and I. Especially since Lex just tried to kill me. Again." Lena said, right as Kara's phone buzzed.

"Oh, that's Cat, she wants me back at Catco immediately, I'm guessing having the new superhero in National City is something she wants to get a jump on before the Daily Planet can." Kara said.

"Makes sense, but hey, at least now you're more prepared for that close up and you can have some control of the narrative." Alex said with a chuckle, remembering the original interview.

"Speaking of interviews, please remind Kelly that she owes me one, since the more good press she can get, the better she'll do in the polls." Kara said.

"I will bring it up with her." Alex promised.

"Great, now I need to go." Kara said as she flew out.

"I should probably get to work too." Alex said.

"Aren't you the boss now?" Lena asked.

"Which is why I can't go in whenever I want." Alex said as she left the office as well while Lena had to wait for the police and every other relevant group to show up to question her and she also needed to make sure there was nothing damaging to her or the Superfriends in the security footage before she turned it over to the authorities.

When Kara arrived at Catco, she found Cat waiting for her.

"Kiera, what took you so long?" Cat asked, even though it had only taken Kara about five minutes to arrive, but Kara knew better than to talk back to Cat Grant.

"Sorry Ms. Grant, traffic was awful." Kara said, giving the usual cover story.

"Well, are you at least aware that Superman has some competition?" Cat asked.

"The mystery blonde in blue who saved Lena Luthor?" Kara asked.

"I see word travels fast." Cat said and Kara nodded.

"Do you want me to reach out to my cousin? I mean he doesn't work for the Daily Planet anymore, but I'm sure he still has a way to contact Superman and I'm sure this mystery woman has some kind of connection to him." Kara asked, since Cat was well aware that her cousin was Clark Kent, who was married to her biggest rival, Lois Lane, but Cat had still hired Kara anyway since she'd assured her that she'd never be loyal to Lois over her.

"I thought you would've already done it." Cat said.

"I already did, just wanted to make sure it was what you wanted me to do." Kara said, having played this game long enough to know how to keep Cat calm.

"Really, let me see." Cat said as she held out her hand for Kara's phone, which she received and sure enough, Kara's call history did include a call to Clark Kent earlier this morning, since Kara had called him to confirm her story.

"Okay good. I assume he'll do it." Cat said.

"As long as you're the one who interviews her. He doesn't want any other reporter slandering this girl's reputation." Kara said.

"Like I would let anyone else do this story anyways. But I'm assuming I'll have to wait for her to approach me." Cat said.

"That's all we can do." Kara said, trying not to smile.

"Well, as long as you're on top of things, then fine. However, that is not the only reason I wanted you here, though it is related." Cat said.

"Okay?" Kara asked.

"While I will be handling this story, I'm going to be starting up a new division of this magazine." Cat said.

"Really?" Kara asked.

"Yes, we have sections for sports, metro, crime, business, but our new alien friend has inspired me to start up a new section that focuses solely on the aliens of National City." Cat said and Kara had to admit, she was pleasantly surprised by that.

"What are you hoping to accomplish with that?" Kara asked.

"Well, I have to admit, I have noticed that aliens in this city are not always treated right. People act like it's different because they're from another planet, but really, it's just another form of racism. I want to expose that and help show the world that aliens deserve to be treated the same way as anyone else." Cat said.

"So what do you need me to do?" Kara asked.

"I want you to be in charge of this division. You'll still be able to work on other stories if you wish too, but I want this to be your priority. You can operate with full discretion and report on any stories you want in this field and assign anyone you want to help you." Cat said and Kara was surprised, since that was a very big promotion and one she was more than happy to take on.

"I'm happy to take this on, but can I ask why you picked me?" Kara asked, wondering if maybe Cat suspected her secret.

"Because you've proven yourself to be a loyal and unbiased reporter who cares more about getting the truth out than you do about ratings, which is something I wish some of my other staff members would take after. I think that you're the most qualified for it, especially with your background as a foster child. I think that would give you a unique perspective, since you lost your old home and had to find your way in a new one, like a lot of the aliens on this planet no doubt had too." Cat said and Kara nodded.

"Thank you. When do I start this new position?" Kara asked.

"As soon as you pack up your desk so I can show you your new office." Cat said and Kara nodded.

"I'll start doing that now." Kara said as she headed to her desk to start packing.
