Chapter 10
Alex was currently sitting on the couch of the apartment, watching some show on Netflix and she had to admit, she did miss the other streaming services that did not exist in this time period yet when she heard the door to the apartment open and turned to see her girlfriend Kelly Olsen enter with a takeout bag in her hand.
"Hey, welcome home." Alex said as she got up to greet her girlfriend.
"Thanks. How was work today?" Kelly asked.
"A lot more difficult than it should be. I wish Kara would put on her cape and start saving people already. It would make my life so much easier." Alex said, since she'd told Kelly Kara's secret with Kara's blessing.
"Yes, because Kara became Supergirl to make your life easier." Kelly said sarcastically.
"Very funny. But how's the campaign going?" Alex asked, since she was hopefully on the road to becoming the first lady of National City.
"Well, we knew this would be an uphill battle going into it, since I am not the traditional candidate." Kelly said.
"You mean because you're not a rich white guy?" Alex asked.
"And I'm also gay. We both know how society feels about that and while things are better, it doesn't help that I don't have much experience in politics." Kelly said.
"Hey, I believe you will win." Alex said.
"I know and I appreciate all the support you've given me, especially using the fact that your sister is one of Catco's star reporters to help me get some extra good press, but still, my campaign manager says that he's not sure if I'm sending the right message." Kelly said.
"What do you mean?" Alex asked.
"I mean my manager thinks that people are more likely to vote for someone who's running on family values while we're living together, but we're not married yet." Kelly said.
"But I think that will work in your favor, since I think that means you'll appeal to a much wider group of voters. Not to mention you also appeal to the people in your other communities. The gay community and the african american community." Alex said.
"Which I pointed out to him. But still." Kelly said.
"Okay, what are you not telling me?" Alex asked, since she could tell that Kelly was keeping something from her.
"I'm not sure if this is a big deal, but today my campaign received a very generous contribution from L-Corp." Kelly said, since Lena had already renamed her family's company after Lex was locked up.
"Really, that's interesting." Alex said.
"Alex." Kelly said, since she knew from Alex that Lena remembered the old reality and she knew how Alex felt about Lena.
"Kelly, I have no problem with you taking Lena's money, in fact, see if you can get more of it from her, but it's obvious that she only did it to try and get back in my good books." Alex said.
"I think you mean Kara's?" Kelly asked.
"No, Kara's already talked things out with Lena and given her another chance. I'm the one Lena needs to win over." Alex said.
"Alex, what's going on? This is clearly about more than just Lena contributing to my campaign or even Lena making amends with Kara?" Kelly asked.
"I think Lena wants to make a move on Kara." Alex said as they sat down on the couch.
"What?" Kelly asked.
"I think that Lena has romantic feelings for Kara and I know that Kara has feelings for Lena." Alex said.
"How can you be so sure that Kara even likes girls the way we do?" Kelly asked.
"Because a few nights ago she slept with Batwoman." Alex said bluntly and Kelly looked shocked by this piece of gossip.
"You're kidding?" Kelly asked.
"Nope. I actually had to talk her into it, but apparently while Batwoman was in town, she and Kara went out for drinks and Kate offered to help Kara experiment since she never did in college." Alex said.
"And Kara actually had a one night stand?" Kelly asked, trying to wrap her head around that.
"Trust me, I am just as shocked as you are, but I can tell that it definitely woke something up inside Kara. Personally I think that's why she's been putting off seeing Lena for as long as she can. She's not ready to accept her feelings yet and that is fine with me, since I do not want her to come to terms for them until I've had time to properly threaten Lena and make sure she won't hurt Kara again. Either physically with Kryptonite or more importantly, emotionally. When betrayed her, it broke Kara's heart and I saw what happened the last time her heart got broken with Mon-El and Kara and Lena were never even together." Alex said.
"You do realize that you can't scare off every boy or girl who looks Kara's way right?" Kelly asked.
"And normally I wouldn't, but Lena is a special case. She can hurt Kara in a way that literally no other villain can, on a level that not even Lex could reach." Alex said, right as they heard a knock on the door.
"What are the odds that's Kara and she just heard everything you said?" Kelly asked.
"Knowing my luck, pretty good." Alex said as she sighed before getting up and going to answer the door and sure enough, she found her little sister on the other side and she did not look happy.
"How much of that did you hear?" Alex asked.
"Enough to know that I will definitely be telling Kelly at least one of the stories you forbade me from telling any of your boyfriends or girlfriends, since you had no right to tell her about me and Kate without asking me first. It was none of her business. No offense Kelly." Kara said.
"None taken." Kelly said, since she knew Kara was right about it not really being her business.
"I'm sorry, it just slipped out." Alex said as she showed Kara in.
"Yeah I know, I heard your whole conversation. Benefits of super hearing and before you get mad at me, I only started listening in when I heard you bring me into the conversation about Lena." Kara said.
"Kara, I know had no right to bring this up with Kelly, but I just needed her to understand why I'm so skeptical of her. Especially since she's clearly going to be around more." Alex said.
"And I appreciate your concern Alex, but I'm a big girl and I can take care of myself." Kara said.
"What brings you over here, since you clearly weren't intending on listening to our conversation?" Kelly asked.
"Right, well, it's actually related to what you were talking about, since I've been doing a lot of thinking since I spent the night with Kate." Kara said and Alex smiled since she had a feeling she knew where this was going.
"And?" Alex asked.
"And I think I'm at least bi if not gay, just because I did enjoy being in a relationship with men, but I think I might prefer women." Kara said and Alex smiled as she hugged her sister.
"I've been waiting for this day for a very long time. I'm so happy that you're finally ready to come out. Have you told anyone else?" Alex asked.
"No, just like how I was the first person you came out too, I wanted you to be the first person I came out too." Kara said and Alex smiled.
"I'm honored, Kara." Alex said.
"So am I, even if you weren't intending to come out to me too." Kelly said as she hugged Kara as well.
"Thank you." Kara said.
"And I'm guessing that these thoughts involve Lena?" Alex asked.
"Maybe." Kara admitted.
"Look Kara, before you start committing to any kind of idea of you and Lena, can you please let me talk to her first?" Alex asked.
"So you can make her too terrified to ever talk to me again, no." Kara said.
"It's not just that. I mean, it is mostly that, but it's also because I need to make sure I know she's sincere about making amends before I even give her a chance to earn my trust back." Alex said.
"And you know I'm going to have Brainy hack into L-Corp's security footage to keep an eye on that right?" Kara said.
"I'd do the same thing in your position." Alex said.
"Just promise me you won't tell her how I feel about her. If you do, I swear I will throw you into the sun." Kara said.
"I promise I won't tell her, but if I decide to give her a chance, I may nudge her in your direction." Alex said.
"I can live with that." Kara said.
"Great." Alex said.
