Chapter 26

After they arrived in National City, Barbara, Courtney and Yolanda quickly dropped their bags off at the hotel they'd gotten a room at before heading to National City General Hospital, where Courtney found her aunt Eliza, cousin Kara and several people she didn't recognize already there, all of them looking concerned.

"Liza." her mom called to her sister, causing her aunt Eliza to look up and see her.

"Barb, you came." Eliza said as she rushed forward to hug her little sister.

"Of course I did sis. And I brought Courtney here for more than one reason." Barbara said.

"If it's because you wanted her to talk to Alex about being on the same team, now is not a good time." Eliza said.

"No, it's not that. You were right about the staff, it chose her, which meant I had to tell her about dad." Barbara said and now Eliza understood.

"You want to tell her the rest of our family's secrets." Eliza said, since Barb was one of the few people they'd trusted with Kara's secret, since thanks to their father, the two of them had been born into this world.

"More like I want someone who has a little more experience to be able to help teach Courtney how to not end up like her father." Barbara said and Eliza nodded.

"I'll talk to Kara about it, since I agree, maybe it's time to let all the secrets out." Eliza said.

"What secrets exactly?" Kara asked as she joined them and quickly hugged her aunt Barbara.

"She already knows you're Supergirl Kara. She's known since your cousin first gave you to us." Eliza said.

"Okay, why?" Kara asked.

"Because Eliza and I grew up in this world. What do you know about the Justice Society of America?" Barbara asked her niece.

"Basically the world's first superheroes before Superman appeared." Kara said, not mentioning that she'd fought side by side with one of the original world war 2 members twice, mainly because those events hadn't happened yet and likely never would now. Or at least Amaya would likely never be removed from her time period this time around.

"Yes, well, our father was one of them. He was the first Starman who served alongside the original JSA during world war 2." Eliza said.

"So being a hero runs in the family." Kara said and Eliza nodded.

"Though after our father retired, instead of passing the staff off to either Barb or I, it bonded to the man who would become Barbara's husband and Courtney's father." Eliza said.

"Uncle Sylvester?" Kara asked, since even though her uncle had died before she'd arrived on earth, Alex had told her all about him and Barbara nodded.

"That was how we met, when my dad was training him." Barbara said.

"Was it love at first sight?" Kara asked.

"No, as a matter of fact, I was not a fan of his for stealing what I thought was either my or Eliza's legacy." Barbara said.

"But he grew on her." Eliza said.

"Anyways, even though Courtney's father is dead, his staff, the cosmic staff chose to stay in the family since it chose Courtney to be its new user." Barbara said.

"So Courtney's going to be a teenage superhero?" Kara asked, thinking that considering how she'd spent her teenage years in Midvale she wasn't in much of a position to judge.

"And so is Yolanda, since she has her powers and while we're in town, I was hoping you could give them some pointers." Barbara said and Kara nodded immediately, since she and Courtney had always been very close.

"I'll go talk to them now." Kara said as she walked over to where Courtney and Yolanda were sitting.

"Kara." Courtney said as she got up to hug her older cousin.

"Hey Courtney. Thank you for coming." Kara said.

"Of course. Especially since Alex helped me come out." Courtney said and Kara smiled, since remembered that.

"Anyways, Alex is going to be in surgery for a while, so why don't we take a walk outside. There's something I want to show both of you." Kara said and while both of the younger girls were confused, they nodded as they followed Kara out of the hospital.

To say Courtney was confused when Kara led her and Yolanda into an empty alley behind the hospital was an understatement, though she was even more surprised when after Kara looked around, she wrapped one arm around Courtney's waist and the other around Yolanda's and Courtney found that her cousin was a lot stronger than she looked and the biggest surprise came she felt Kara literally jump into the sky and flew to the top of a nearby building and that was when Courtney realized who her cousin really was.

"You're Supergirl." Courtney asked, not believing her big cousin was one of the most powerful people on the planet.

"And you're Stargirl from what your mom tells me." Kara said.

"Wait, mom knew?" Courtney asked.

"I didn't even know she knew until she told me earlier today, but don't get mad at her, since it wasn't her secret to tell. It was mine." Kara reminded her cousin.

"Fair point." Courtney conceded while Yolanda was still in shock that her best friend's cousin was Supergirl.

"So, why are you telling us now?" Yolanda asked.

"Since you're involved in this world anyways, there is no point in keeping it a secret from you anymore, plus, your mom wants me to try and serve as a mentor to both of you." Kara said.

"Wait, you want to teach us?" Courtney asked, thrilled.

"I can't let my favorite cousin get killed can I?" Kara asked.

"Wait, I'm your favorite cousin, not Superman?" Courtney asked with a grin.

"Yes, but don't tell him that. But anyways, I showed you what I can do, now it's your term." Kara said and Yolanda was quick to show off her claws.

"I see why you're called Wildcat." Kara said as she saw Courtney holding out her hand.

"What are you doing?" Kara asked.

"Sorry, it takes a minute when I'm this far away." Courtney said, right as the staff flew into it and Kara could feel the power coming from it and Courtney.

"Wow, that's impressive, though the power is clearly coming from more than just the staff." Kara said.

"Yeah, but we don't know much about it." Courtney admitted.

"Well then, I guess we'll need to fix that. Can you fly with that thing?" Kara asked.

"Yeah, why?" Courtney asked as Kara grabbed Yolanda again.

"Just make sure you follow me." Kara said as she flew off and Courtney got on Cosmo and flew off after her.
