Chapter 5

The private detective Jesse uses is not who everyone thinks it is. Also, I think that people will like the twist I put in this chapter, since it plays on something that several people, including myself, wished had happened, but didn't. You'll know what I mean when you read it.

Dinah Drake was currently getting all her files in order for when her current client, Jesse McCulloch, arrived, since Jesse was currently her only client and considering how much Jesse was paying her for this and how much she was promised once she succeeded, Dinah had no problems with it. Especially since once she finished this case, she'd finally be able to retire from this kind of work and pursue her dream of owning her own bar.

Anyways, what she was doing right now was converting her research to a format that would be more appropriate to show other people. And by that, she meant the people of this time period, since Dinah was not from this time period. She was from the future, specifically the year 2040 from Central City.

The reason she was in this time period was because she was chasing a criminal from her time, since in 2040, she was a member of the Central City Police Department and she was a metahuman, something she'd chosen to be so she could join the elite metahuman task force, a task force the CCPD had created that was made up entirely of specially selected metahumans in order to help both the city and the Flash, since the Flash was often busy helping protect the rest of the world, so the CCPD had to evolve to protect the city while he was gone. They did this by, with the help of Mercury Labs, finding a way to turn officers into metahumans, but it was all voluntary and extensive background checks were done on all candidates before they were given powers. The powers Dinah had been given were similar to the great hero, the Black Canary, only instead of a cry, Dinah's sonic attack sounded more like howl, which is what it became known as, her sonic howl, but she also developed claws and wolflike senses, which she could turn on and off at will. This had earned her the callsign of Silver Wolf, since every member of her squad had one.

Anyways, the reason she was in this time period now was because of one of the few times the CCPD's background checks had failed. Her former partner, Vincent Sobel, another metahuman created to work for the CCPD, only he had enhanced healing powers, making him very hard to kill and it was also how he'd escaped custody, since Dinah had discovered that all of his so called police work was really just a cover for him to be a crime lord, since he was using the intel he got from the police to keep his criminal enterprise ahead of the authorities. Dinah had been the first to find out and she'd immediately turned him in, since while it had pained her to turn him in, especially since they'd also been lovers when she'd found out the truth, but his lies hurt her more and she put her duty first.

However, Vincent had escaped custody by his crew ambushing the convoy that was escorting him to Iron Heights. The ambush had resulted in mass casualties on both sides, with both Vincent and Dinah being the only survivors, due to their respective powers, though Vince still recovered faster than she did after the fight, but before he could get away and before she blacked out, Dinah was able to tag Vince with a tracker that she followed the Flash Museum, where she found him preparing a time sphere and Dinah realized what his plan. Since he couldn't hide in the present, Vincent planned on hiding in the past and most likely messing with it to better things for himself. So with no time to call for backup or anything else, Dinah did the only thing she could. Right as the time sphere began to power up, Dinah began shooting at it as she rushed towards Vince, intent on not letting him escape. However, the shots she fired at the time sphere caused some kind of explosion that not only destroyed the sphere, but also shot them both into the past.

They'd been stuck in the early 21st century for 2 years now and Dinah had been waiting for the Flash to emerge so she could get him to take her home so she could get backup, but in the meantime, she'd been focused on tracking Vince and she'd finally traced him to Keystone City and that's where they'd both put down roots.

Anyways, Dinah was pulled from her thoughts when she heard someone enter her office and she quickly shut off her devices, thinking that Jesse had arrived early, only to see a black man enter her office.

"Can I help you?" Dinah asked, since this man seemed familiar to her, but she didn't know why.

"Not exactly. I'm here to help you." the man said and before Dinah could respond, he placed his hand to her temple and restored her memories of the old reality. A world where she was from this time period and she'd fought alongside the legendary Green Arrow, who's name she now remembered. And she also knew that even after she caught Vincent, she wouldn't be returning to 2040, at least not permanently, since even in this world, she loved this time period more than her own, just because it was the beginning of the age of heroes, plus now she could be her own hero instead of just a failed replacement for Laurel Lance, since Dinah knew that's what Oliver and John at least had thought of her, at least for a little while after Team Arrow had split, mainly because a big chunk of that division was her fault. Now though she knew better, since this world's Vince was nothing like the old one and even if he was, she wasn't going to make the same mistakes twice.

"Thank you J'onn. For reminding of where I belong, but I think that I'll be staying here in Keystone, since it sounds like we've got a younger generation of heroes that could use some adult supervision." Dinah said and J'onn chuckled.

"I agree. Good luck." J'onn said.

"Thanks. I'll need it." Dinah said as J'onn left the office.
