Chapter 1
The last thing Barry Allen remembered before blacking out was crouching next to Sara Lance at the dawn of time over Oliver Queen's dying body, both of them mourning the loss of one of their oldest friends, since it didn't feel right to either of them that they got to live, while Oliver had to die for the new world to be born, since despite what Oliver might've said or thought, he was truly the best of them, not him and not Kara. After all, neither of them had inspired a whole age of heroes like Oliver had.
Anyways, the next thing Barry knew, he found himself back in the Monitor's realm, though how that was possible, he didn't know, since he'd watched an Anti-Monitor possessed Lyla killed Novu right before the antimatter wave had hit, but his question was answered when he saw Novu standing in front of him.
"So, I see you're alive again." Barry said.
"Try not to sound so thrilled about that Mr. Allen." Novu said.
"Why should I be thrilled that the man who created the Anti-Monitor in the first place is still alive." Barry pointed out and Novu sighed.
"Fair enough. I know I made a mistake when I attempted to travel to the dawn of time, but I was young and reckless. And unfortunately every version of me in the multiverse was that way." Novu said.
"At least you admit it." Barry acknowledged.
"And I'm aware that the multiverse paid for my mistake." Novu said.
"It wasn't just the multiverse that paid for your mistake. It was Oliver who paid for it the most. Everything that happened is because of you. If you'd just let go of your own damn ego and not done that stupid experiment, than none of this would've happened. Oliver would still be alive and so would so many other people. If it weren't for you, there never would've been an Anti-Monitor, there wouldn't have been a crisis and there wouldn't have been a need for you to give Deegan that damn book and create the Elseworlds, which means that if weren't for you, there would've been no reason for Oliver to make that deal with you to save Kara and I. He's dead because of you. So tell me, why the hell do you deserve to live when it was your mistakes that ruined everything in the first place?" Barry demanded.
"I don't. But I'm not the only one who was brought back. When you brought back the multiverse, you also brought back everyone who died in crisis and even some who died before it. Including Oliver Queen." Novu said, stopping Barry from continuing his tirade.
"I'm sorry what?" Barry asked, thinking he'd misheard.
"It appears that the universe has decided that Oliver Queen's story is not yet done, since when you rebirthed the universe, you also reset it to the date of October 10 2012." Novu said as it took Barry a second to understand the significance of that date.
"The day Oliver returned home from Lian Yu." Barry realized and Novu nodded.
"And as such, Oliver Queen needed to return to the land of the living so that he could fulfill his destiny as a shepherd for the age of heroes. And his destiny is to be one of its greatest." Novu said and Barry couldn't deny that.
"So, he'll be alive. And you mentioned others." Barry said as the full implications of that date caught up to him.
"Yes. You've been given a second chance to not only keep those you love safe, but also to save those you could not save before." Novu said as Barry thought of his list. His father, Eddie, Ronnie, all of the bus metas besides Ralph, Stein and so many others.
"I'm guessing that a lot has changed in this new world, since knowing Oliver, even if it wasn't intentional, he'd still do something to make things more interesting. It won't just be an instant replay of the way things were." Barry said, knowing his brother in all but blood well.
"Indeed. For starters, when the universe was reborn, the process merged Earths one, two, thirty 38 and 65 (the designation I'm giving Black Lightning's old earth is Earth 65 since it was never given one in the canon), meaning that you now live on the same world as Superman, Supergirl and Black Lightning." Novu said and Barry nodded.
"So, is there any way you can make it so that I don't completely blow it?" Barry asked and Novu grinned.
"That's the final reason I'm here. I'm going to give you the memories of your counterpart from the new world so that you can easily step into his life, since you'll be taking his place in the new world. It should help you adapt to the changes in the new world. I think you'll find you like several of the changes in it." Novu said as he waved his hand, sending Barry flying away as new memories surged through his brain.
After Barry finally stopped falling, he found that while his mind was still as active as ever, his body was back in its comatose state. Meaning that Thawne had blown up the city and put him in a coma a lot earlier in this reality. However, he could tell that instead of his speed being reduced to what it had been when he'd first acquired it, he could tell that it was still at the boosted level it had been at after Oliver had given him spectre energy. He just hoped that taking on that energy wouldn't have any negative consequences.
As his memories of the new world ran through his mind, Barry was surprised by the number of differences in it. The biggest one being that his dad did not spend the past 15 years in prison. Instead, while he had initially been arrested for killing his mom, in this reality, thanks to the existence of Superman proving that the impossible was actually possible, the police were more willing to believe Barry's statement about the lightning man. Thanks to an old friend, Christina McGee, offering scientific assistance to the CCPD in the investigation, they were able to find proof to clear Henry's name, allowing Barry to be raised by his father, something he was very happy about, since while Joe had been great, it hadn't been the same as his own father, especially considering how short their time together had been after he'd been released from prison, due to Henry's insistence that Barry didn't need him holding him back while he was the Flash and then just as things looked up with his dad planning to stay and him and Iris preparing to give a relationship a shot, Zoom just had to come in and ruined things by killing his dad and sending him on the path that would lead him to create Flashpoint and Savitar. Something he swore then and there that even if he did lose Iris, he would never allow himself to become the monster that Savitar was. Or at least, he hoped he wouldn't.
Anyways, Barry continued going through his memories to find that his childhood was actually very different than it was before. Aside from being raised by his father instead of Joe, Barry was pleasantly surprised to find that his dad remarried a few years after his mom died, something he didn't really have a problem with, since all Barry cared about was that his dad was happy and it didn't hurt that his new wife was Dr. Christina McGee, which made Barry even happier, since he could tell that there'd been some kind of connection between his father and Tina in the old reality, but Zoom had killed his father before they'd been able to explore that relationship.
And the result of that relationship came in the form of a little sister. Chloe Nora Allen was born about two years after his dad had gotten married to Tina and Barry absolutely adored his little sister, since he'd always wanted a younger sibling growing up and now he had one. However, it had been around that time that Barry discovered another change in this reality. He wasn't the only speedster in the family. Apparently in this reality, Barry's speed was inherited from his father, who in this reality wasn't the same man he was in the old one. It turns out that the name Henry Allen was a fake name. His real name was Jay Garrick. The name of another man Barry had come to see as a father. And it turns out that in this reality, his father, Jay or Henry, whichever you wanted to call him, had been a speedster also called the Flash and had even been a member of this world's version of the Justice Society of America until he'd lost his speed in a fight with their enemies, the Injustice Society of America, Barry swore that Cisco would never find out that name for obvious reasons, but anyways, while a majority of the JSA had been wiped out in the attack, Barry's father had survived, though in the process, he'd somehow lost his speed, but in all honesty, it didn't seem like his father minded, since he'd already been getting up there in years and couldn't keep running anymore, so he chose to simply retire and focus on his family, which he did until his wife was murdered a year later. But marrying Tina and having Chloe had helped fill the void in Henry's life, along with being a father to Barry.
Especially after they'd discovered that Barry had inherited his father's powers when he was 15, which is what caused Henry to reveal the truth about his past to his son before starting to train Barry. However, that left the question in Barry's mind about why Thawne would bother blowing up Central City with the particle accelerator since Barry was already a speedster, so there was no need to create more. But then again, the only thing that went through Thawne's mind that Barry truly understood was the hatred the Reverse Flash held for him and that was only because Barry held the same hatred for Thawne inside of him.
Anyways, another change in this reality was that since Barry had not grown up under the same roof as Iris, it had been easier for Barry to tell her how he felt about her, so they'd gotten together back in high school. In fact, Barry had proposed to Iris the night she'd returned home from her first tour of duty with the navy. Yeah, that was something that threw him for a loop, since in this reality, instead of backing off after her father had forced her to withdraw her application from the Central City Police Department, in this reality, she'd chosen to join the Navy, much to her father's shock and disapproval, but since Iris had been 18 at the time, Joe couldn't stop her. And while Barry had his concerns as well, he was proud of her, since he knew that protecting people, actually feeling like she was making a difference, it was what she'd always wanted.
However, before Barry could think anymore about this, he felt himself waking up to the sound of a very familiar song.
