Chapter 34

"What up G-Town? Let me give you a clue on the current scorecard between the Bat and the Joker in their current game. Batwoman one, Joker and cronies zip. I guess the Joker didn't have a clue about who he was putting up against the Bat. Right now the supposed Cluemaster is currently on his way back to Arkham, thanks to the efforts of not the GCPD or the Crows, but thanks to Batwoman and Huntress. Is anyone else as shocked about that as I am? And of course, I mean not shocked at all. Batwoman's got an early lead in this game, let's see if she has what it takes to keep it. But so far, I think the new Scarlet Knight is living up to the reputation of the Dark Knight. Talk to me Gotham, what do you think?" Kate and Helena heard Vesper Fairchild say over the radio as they entered the Batcave after watching the GCPD escort Cluemaster back to Arkham.

"What's the status of Stephanie Brown?" Kate asked Luke.

"Why don't you ask her yourself?" Luke told them as to their shock, they saw Stephanie standing in the batcave waiting for them.

"How did you get in here?" Kate asked.

"You really think you two are the only ones Bruce Wayne ever considered taking over as Gotham's protector? He brought me in shortly after my dad was originally arrested. You were off on your little crusade to find Two Face and you were off at military school and still hated Batman." Stephanie said.

"And this was when he was in between Robins I take it." Helena asked, not at all surprised that her dad would do this.

"Pretty much. You know that Bruce couldn't do this thing alone for very long. He's not Superman. I bet was still looking for recruits even while he was training you." Stephanie said.

"Sounds about right. Which is why I'm not even trying to do things alone. Hell, I think the only superhero on this planet that goes in alone is Superman. Even Supergirl has her own team." Kate said.

"Why is Supergirl the one you chose to name?" Luke asked and Kate had to resist the urge to smack that smile off his face.

"Best comparison since I'd already mentioned her cousin." Kate said, but Helena saw right through it.

"Wait, you slept with Supergirl?" Helena asked, looking at her cousin, seriously impressed.

"And if you start any rumors about that, I'll put you in a cell in Arkham myself." Kate threatened as both Helena and Stephanie both held up their hands in surrender.

"Anyways, Stephanie, you know you're gonna need to get out of town right?" Kate asked.

"What do you think I was in the middle of doing when my father grabbed me. I started packing my things the moment I heard he was loose." Stephanie said.

"I can reach out to a friend in Star City, see if he can help get you set up." Kate said.

"Do I want to know how you have contact with the Green Arrow?" Helena asked.

"Technically, I'm in contact with his girlfriend, who's another one of Bruce's proteges." Kate said with a smirk, though while that wasn't technically a lie, she couldn't exactly explain how she knew the Green Arrow to anyone but Luke.

"Laurel Lance, which means that the Green Arrow is Oliver Queen." Helena said.

"How did you put that together?" Stephanie asked.

"Not only did Bruce train Laurel Lance to be the Black Canary, but she and I went to law school together when she transferred to Gotham University for it. We were actually roommates." Helena said.

"Got it. But I'm not looking to move to Star City." Stephanie said.

"I know, but he's got more resources for this kind of thing than we do. Might be able to hook you up with a job in Hub City." Kate said.

"Sounds good." Stephanie said as she walked out of the Batcave.

"Okay, onto our next order of business, who do you think the next maniac the Joker's gonna throw at us will be?" Kate asked.

"Hard to say exactly. He's got a lot of lunatics to choose from." Luke said.

"I think I have an idea on how you can get us some information from GCPD without hacking in." Helena said with a smirk.

"What is it?" Kate asked, not liking the look on her cousin's face.

"I saw the way you were looking at Detective Sawyer and I know for a fact that she plays for the same team as you. Maybe you could try and flirt with her, see what you can find and maybe finally start moving on from Sophie in the process, since she rejected you and it's time you started getting back in the game beyond casual flings." Helena said.

"You're one to talk." Kate said.

"Kate, I'm serious, if this goes well, everyone wins, especially you." Helena said.

"I'll think about it. But even if I wanted to, I'd wait until after this game is over so I don't have to dash from a date." Kate said.

"Hey, she's a cop, she's on the same schedule you are." Luke pointed out.

"Shut up. I need to get home to make sure that Ryan isn't giving Mary too much trouble." Kate said as retracted her suit into her watch before heading to the elevator.
