Chapter 33
Stephanie smirked as she watched her insane father obsess over watching Batwoman and the Huntress, or as she really knew them, Kate Kane and Helena Wayne, not that they knew that she knew who they were, but just like the, she'd been trained by Bruce Wayne, not to be a sidekick, but to prepare for the day that her insane father escaped from prison and, so that after Helena and Dick left Gotham and before Kate committed to taking over the Bat legacy, she'd been trained by Bruce as a potential successor as Gotham's protector for when he eventually retired, since he'd recruited her not long after her father had been arrested and she'd already been trying her hand at being a vigilante to try and redeem her family after all the terrible things her dad did.
But anyways, while she'd eventually decided that being the Bat was not for her, she still remembered Bruce's training. Especially his training on how to escape capture and since Cluemaster, since she refused to refer to this lunatic as her father anymore, was so fixated on watching his pathetic little game unfold, he didn't notice her dislocating her thumbs to escape. Honestly, why the Joker bothered breaking him out was beyond her, since Cluemaster hadn't even fought Batman and even if he had, he was such a d string villain that he didn't matter.
Anyways, once she'd gotten enough slack, Stephanie groaned slightly in discomfort as she dislocated her thumbs and slid her hands out of her restraints before popping her thumbs back into place and proceeded to free herself from the rest of her bindings.
She thought about pulling the old disappearing trick, but she knew that this was her best bet to take down her father once and for all and since he was distracted, this was the perfect opportunity to strike, since she'd kept up on her combat training, even after she'd left the Batcave.
Which was why she was now carefully sneaking around the room until she was hidden very close to her father's left side as she watched him watch Batwoman and Huntress get through another one of his lame challenges, since honestly, he claimed to be a genius, but from what she'd seen of his work, it was amateur hour at best. She guessed that the Joker wanted to get rid of the easiest villain first.
"No, they're progressing too quickly." Cluemaster said.
"I guess that proves who's smarter than." Stephanie said, unable to resist taunting him.
"Watch your tongue." Cluemaster said, turning to where he believed his daughter was still tied up, only to see that she was gone.
"What, how?" Cluemaster asked.
"You really think that I wouldn't prepare for this day? I've spent the past five years preparing for you to come after me when you escaped. But honestly, everything I've seen from you, it's just sad. You're no Riddler." Stephanie said from the shadows.
"I admit they were a bit smarter than I was expecting, but without their gear, they'll be helpless to stop what I have in store for them." Cluemaster said.
"Please, even the dumbest escapee from Arkham wouldn't make the same mistake you are. You're underestimating them. You think that the Bat relies solely on their toys. Big mistake." Stephanie said as she managed to sneak around behind him, staying out of sight.
"You really think I wouldn't prepare for this. This entire building is rigged to blow and they started the timer the moment they entered the final room of my gauntlet. Unless they stop me in the time they have left, which is about 10 minutes, this whole place goes up with all of us in it." Cluemaster said, making Stephanie realize just how insane he was.
"You're willing to kill yourself and your own daughter to kill them?" Stephanie asked, horrified.
"It's not like you call yourself my daughter anymore. Not after you sold out with Bruce Wayne." Cluemaster said.
"He did something you never did. Asked me what I wanted and gave me a choice about my future." Stephanie said.
"And so you've chosen to die. How fitting." Cluemaster said, right as the doors to the room burst open, letting light flood in to reveal that they were in the old Quiz Bowl tournament room. The room where Arthur Brown truly became Cluemaster as Batwoman and Huntress entered the room and to Cluemaster's shock, both of them had their gear back.
"How?" Cluemaster asked.
"Nanites. We've been upgraded beyond Batman." Batwoman said, smirking as she noticed Stephanie sneaking up behind Cluemaster and grinned as she let him knock him out cold.
"Nice shot." Huntress said.
"Thanks, but we have another problem. He rigged this place to blow as a last resort to kill us all and since he's out cold, we can't exactly ask him where the bombs are or how to disarm them." Stephanie said.
"If you can disable your father's jamming signal, our tech guy can handle that part." Batwoman said and Stephanie nodded as she moved over to her father's computers and got to work.
