Chapter 19

Today was moving day for Kate, since she was finally moving into Wayne Manor, since Bruce had finally moved out of it, so now she was moving in so she could ensure she'd never have to cross paths with her dad for awhile, since until he saw just how much damage he'd done to their relationship, she wanted nothing to do with him. Plus, she had other reasons for wanting to move into the mansion, since it was very isolated from the rest of the city, which meant that she wouldn't draw attention by slipping in and out at all hours of the night to be Batwoman.

"Man, this place is huge." Mary said as she carried a box in, since she, Helena and Luke were helping Kate get all moved in.

"Yeah. Bruce's family has lived in this ho use for 7 generations. It's one of the oldest and largest homes in Gotham. And even though I used to spend summers here growing up, especially after the accident, I'm still gonna need a map to find my way around this place." Kate said.

"Yeah, I remember feeling like that while I was growing up here." Helena said with a smile as she thought back to all the happy memories she had in this house. Especially with her dad and her big brother Dick.

"You sure you don't want to stay here with me?" Kate asked her.

"Thanks, but I'm not looking to move back into my childhood home, especially since I already have my own place outside the Crow's district." Helena said.

"That's fine. However, I do have plenty of room and Mary, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who wants to get away from dad." Kate said.

"Wait, are you saying you want me to move in here with you?" Mary asked her sister.

"It would be easier for you to run your clinic if you're not living with dad and I have a feeling that things have been awkward for you since I told you why he and I aren't speaking anymore." Kate said.

"Fair point and if you're serious, I'm totally in, since this will be much cheaper than finding my own apartment, since I assume I'll be living here rent free." Mary said.

"Well you were until you put the idea of charging you rent into my head." Kate said and Mary rolled her eyes.

"Seriously Kate, if you mean it, then I'd be more than happy to move in, since this place is much cooler and fancier than the penthouse is." Mary said.

"True, but I hope you don't mind the sounds of construction, since I'm going to have a few contractors coming up here next week to take a look." Kate said.

"Why?" Helena asked, though she had an idea.

"Because when Bruce signed over the deed to the house to me, he told me I could do anything I want with it and I'm planning on renovating it so that it doesn't still give off the vibes of Bruce Wayne's bachelor pad, though don't worry Helena, your room will remain untouched." Kate said.

"Appreciated." Helena said.

"But you're not only renovating the house to make it more your style are you?" Luke asked, knowing Kate too well.

"No. The renovations will also provide a cover for a new project I'm gonna have built in the cave system underneath the house." Kate said.

"A new batcave." Helena realized and Kate nodded.

"The old one is great, but honestly, it's very outdated. That bat computer may have been advanced tech back when it was first built, now it's old and obsolete. And besides, a new Bat means a new cave. Especially since the guy I met in National City to design the new Batcave called me yesterday and said that the plans are ready." Kate said.

"You really are as clever as dad. I've been giving him hell about not updating the tech in the batcave for years and now you're finally doing something about it. But how did you find out about the cave system? I thought that dad's parents had them sealed off years ago after grandpa Thomas had the well destroyed after dad fell into them as a kid." Helena asked.

"I rediscovered them a few years ago when I was doing some spelunking. Don't ask. But I always wondered why Bruce put the batcave under his building and not his house. It would've made more sense." Kate said.

"I stopped trying to understand what went through Bruce's head years ago." Luke said.

"Good move. Sometimes I doubt even dad knows what's going through his head." Helena said as they continued to talk.
