Chapter 5
That night, Thea, Roy and Nyssa were working on unpacking Roy's things in the loft, since Nyssa insisted on helping, since she'd be sleeping on the couch until she could find her own place and seeing as she couldn't exactly access any league funds right now, that meant she'd have to do something she'd truly detest. Getting a job. The problem was that she wasn't sure how to find a job, considering her very limited skillset. And she didn't just want any normal run of the mill job, since that was boring. But that was something she could figure out later.
For right now, the three of them were sitting on the couch, taking a break from moving.
"So, when exactly is Argus going to install the typical home security system for it's agents?" Thea asked her boyfriend.
"I still have to finish orientation tomorrow, but sometime after that. But I promise I will give you a heads up before they install it and I'll make sure we both know how to use it." Roy said.
"Good." Thea said.
"I hope that you'll inform me as well, since I'll be living here for the time being." Nyssa said.
"Yeah, how long is that going to be a thing? I mean, no offense Nyssa, as nice as it is to have you around." Roy said.
"I will start looking for a job tomorrow." Nyssa said and Thea had to chuckle, because it looked like saying those words physically hurt Nyssa.
"You could always start your own business." Thea pointed out.
"And what would that business be?" Nyssa asked.
"You could be a private investigator. After all, you are very good at finding things and people who don't want to be found." Roy pointed out.
"I don't know." Nyssa said.
"You'll get the taste of action you crave helping us at night. We all have to make sacrifices though in order to blend in, since I know for a fact that Ollie is planning on keeping his identity a secret this time around and the rest of us should be too." Thea said and Nyssa nodded.
"I'll think about it." Nyssa said, right as they heard the knock on the door.
"Think that's the pizza guy?" Roy asked.
"Maybe, but it could also be the final member of the team, since I figure it's time that we all met, since if we're going to work together, we need to actually know what each other looks like." Thea said as she went to get the door and sure enough, she found Ryan waiting on the other side.
"Come on in." Thea said as she showed Ryan in.
"You must be Ryan." Roy said as he got up to greet him.
"And you must be Roy. Oliver spoke almost as highly of you as he did his sister." Ryan said as they shook hands.
"Good to know." Roy said with a smile.
"But he never mentioned you." Ryan said, looking over at Nyssa.
"That's because he doesn't know that's a part of the team yet. Ryan, meet Nyssa al Ghul, former member of the League of Assassins and probably our best chance against the storm that's coming our way." Thea said.
"What storm?" Ryan asked.
"Have you ever heard of the League of assassins?" Roy asked
"Besides you and Thea just saying it now, no." Ryan said.
"Consider yourself lucky. The League has existed for centuries, it's a secret order of assassins that have been secretly killing people from the shadows since, well, I think always." Roy said and Nyssa nodded.
"However, my father, Ra's al Ghul, is the current leader of the League and he will not take my desertion or my failure to bring another deserter in lightly." Nyssa said.
"Then why come here?" Ryan asked.
"Because the only people who stand a chance at defeating my father and ending his threat once and for all are those of the Queen bloodline. Both Oliver and Thea have each defeated either Ra's or someone as skilled as him at least once and Oliver has his own problems to worry about. Besides, Thea, Roy and I, we have a history working together." Nyssa said and Roy and Thea both nodded.
"You think you can stop this threat before it destroys the town?" Ryan asked Thea.
"I think that if anyone has a chance at doing it, it's me, since I've been trained by the best people on the planet. But I need to get back into fighting shape." Thea said.
"Yeah, we need a place to meet and train." Roy said.
"I've actually been looking into a few places we could use as a base, though it would take a lot of funding to make them usable." Ryan said.
"Argus has us covered on that front." Thea said.
"How?" Ryan asked.
"Roy's an Argus agent, which means that this team can be classified as an off the books operation, so Lyla can give us funding without ever having to list us." Thea said.
"Got it. Well anyways, like I said, I have a few options for a base of operations." Ryan said as he showed them his ideas.
"A sewer lair? What are we, ninja turtles?" Roy asked with a chuckle as he saw that one of Ryan's choices was an abandoned sewer.
"I realize it's not the most practical." Ryan said.
"Actually, there might be an advantage to having an underground base. Think you can get me an overview of the city? Specifically underground?" Thea asked Ryan.
"Yeah, I don't exactly have that kind of equipment on me." Ryan said.
"I'll call Argus, see if they can help us out." Roy said.
"What are you thinking?" Nyssa asked Thea.
"Just something I'm remembering from a freshmen year history class I took when I needed an elective. I think I heard something about there being a network of tunnels underneath the city. I can't remember why, but it's true." Thea said.
"They'd be a more than suitable lair." Roy said and Thea nodded.
"We'll need to get a scan of the city, find out if it's true, since if those tunnels do exist, I doubt anyone here knows about them." Ryan said, since he'd lived in this town for a good part of his life and he'd never heard of it.
"I'll call Lyla, see what she can do." Roy said as he pulled out his phone.
