Chapter 24
The following day found Thea going up to her family's mansion, since she was about to have a very difficult conversation with her mom.
And considering the upset look on her mother's face after Raisa showed Thea into the den, Thea suspected that her mom already knew what this conversation would be about.
"Thea, I'm glad that you haven't left town yet." Moira said and Thea could tell that her mother was not happening.
"I figured I'd rather have this conversation on my own terms instead of having you come out to Ivy Town." Thea said.
"So you know why I'm upset." Moira said and Thea nodded.
"Yeah, I know that I haven't exactly been doing well in school lately." Thea said.
"That would imply you show up at all. Thea, you were doing so well." Moira said.
"Yeah, I was. Until I realized that maybe running Queen Consolidated isn't actually what I want to do with my life. Just like how it's not what Oliver wanted to do with his." Thea said.
"Thea, you seemed so excited about running the company when I first proposed the idea." Moira said.
"Yeah, that was back when I thought I wanted to run Queen Consolidated, but honestly, all those business meetings and pandering to investors and dealing with a board of directors, that's not me. Honestly, I don't know how you do it." Thea said.
"Thea." Moira said.
"No mom, I don't want to be a CEO and honestly, I feel like that was always more what you wanted than what I wanted. You and dad had the same problem with Oliver. You tried to force him to take over the company when he made it perfectly clear that he didn't want the company and neither do I." Thea said as Oliver entered the parlor.
"Oliver, what are you doing here?" Moira asked.
"I thought this was a conversation that I should be involved in. And I also decided that there should be no more secrets between any of us. Which is why I had a friend in Central City provide me with this." Oliver said as he held up a weird teched up ring.
"What is that?" Moira asked.
"Something that will finally clear all the secrets between us." Oliver said as he pressed the ring to his mother's arm and Thea was surprised when she saw her mother clearly suffer through what had to be a memory reset.
"What is that thing?" Thea asked.
"Something Cisco cooked up. It's called a Martian Memory Restorer. It's designed to give people back their pre-crisis memories and since there's a lot we need to talk about with Mom, I thought it would be best if we finally aired out all the secrets." Oliver said.
"Including the fact that my son is the Green Arrow." Moira said as she recovered.
"Yep." Oliver said as he sat down next to Thea.
"And I could not be prouder. Though I am concerned that you let Thea follow your line of work." Moira said as she looked at her daughter.
"Hey, I tried to talk her out of it, but you know how Thea is." Oliver said and Moira chuckled.
"I do and I think that before we go any further, I think it's time that I give Thea a much overdue apology for keeping the truth about your father from you." Moira said but Thea shook her head.
"I get it now. And honestly, as far as I'm concerned, you didn't lie about who my dad is. Malcolm might be my blood, but he's not my dad. Honestly, the entire time he was in my life, he didn't do anything good until the end of his." Thea said.
"What did he do?" Moira asked as Thea took a deep breath.
"One of Ollie's numerous enemies had taken us prisoner on Lian Yu and Oliver was willing to work with Malcolm to save me. And while we were trying to get off the island, I triggered a landmine and the trigger had rusted over, so we couldn't disarm it, so Malcolm took my place and committed suicide to save me." Thea said and Moira was shocked by that.
"I guess deep down, there was still a good man inside him." Moira said and Thea nodded.
"Maybe, but he was still an ass who continued causing problems for us even after he died. Long story." Thea said.
"But anyways, I think we should get back on topic. Mom, I'm curious. Why were you and dad so insistent on either Thea or I taking over Queen Consolidated when both of us made it pretty clear that we didn't want to be CEOs?" Oliver asked.
"We wanted to keep the company in the family." Moira said.
"Too bad there's another way that could've happened with someone who did want the company, but you rejected her." Oliver said, his voice low as Moira realized who he was talking about.
"You know about Emiko." Moira said.
"I know everything. I know about Emiko, I know about William, I know about the man dad killed. Honestly mom, at least half of the bad guys I've fought as the Green Arrow are really just me cleaning up messes made by you and dad." Oliver said.
"Oliver, you have to understand." Moira said.
"Understand what? That you forced dad to abandon Emiko and her mother and made sure that they were given any kind of support. She should've grown up here in this mansion with Thea and I. But instead, she grew up in a terrorist organizaiton that nearly destroyed this whole city just because she blamed me for your actions. And by the time I got through to her, it was just in time for her own people to betray her." Oliver said angrily.
"You're right. It was unforgivable and I've been thinking about that decision for awhile, however, you should know that things did not happen the same way in this universe." Moira said.
"What do you mean?" Thea asked.
"What I mean is that while you still have Emiko as a sister in this universe, your father never abandoned her. Or at least, not on purpose." Moira said.
"What?" Oliver asked as he calmed down.
"When I found out about your father's affair and his other daughter, I admit, I was mad, but in this reality, apparently I'm smarter, since I chose not to punish a child for something they had no control over, so I told Robert that as long as he ended his affair with Kazumi, he could be a part of Emiko's life, since this was before you were born Thea and I wanted Oliver to have a sibling. However, Kazumi Adachi was not happy that your father chose us over her, so she took Emiko and disappeared. Your father spent years searching for them before I convinced him to focus on the family he still had and we even started trying for another child. About nine months before you were born, Thea." Moira said.
"Wait mom, are you saying?" Thea asked, desperately hoping this was true.
"Yes Thea, in this universe, your father really is Robert Queen. Malcolm is not your father in any way, shape or form." Moira said and Thea sighed in relief as she felt a weight be lifted off her shoulders.
"Anyways, why don't we get back on topic. As in, Thea, are you sure that you don't want to run the company?" Moira asked and Thea nodded.
"Yeah I am and honestly, there's a different direction I want to take my life in. I want to start a program that helps at-risk kids turn their lives around like I did." Thea said and Moira smiled.
"At least you've got a plan. And I'm assuming this means dropping out of school?" Moira asked.
"Actually, since I'm in my last semester, I thought I'd just switch to online classes, since I'm still technically passing my classes, I won't need to worry about attending, I can do the work at my own pace." Thea said and Moira smiled.
"At least you're finishing your education, which is more than I can say for your brother." Moira.
"Considering how many times I've saved the city and the world, I think I turned out okay. Especially since I served in the military in this universe." Oliver said.
"Anyways, moving on, is Roy in town?" Moira asked Thea.
"No, he's back in Ivy Town working on something that I'm not allowed to talk about since technically I'm not supposed to know." Thea said.
"Right, Roy works for Argus." Oliver said.
"Please tell me that Amanda Waller woman isn't still the director?" Moira asked, since she'd heard about Waller before.
"Waller died the moment I found out Laurel was pregnant with Jasmine." Oliver said.
"Good, no one will miss her. Speaking of Laurel, when are you going to put a ring on her?" Thea asked.
"I could ask you the same question about Roy?" Oliver asked.
"That's a question for him, since I'd marry him in a heartbeat if he'd ask, especially since he's the only boyfriend I've ever had that you liked, but seriously Ollie, you and Laurel seem to be better than ever and it seems like you've gotten settled in, so what are you waiting for?" Thea asked.
"Thea, the last time Laurel and I started considering this type of commitment to each other, everything went south. I don't want to go down that path again." Oliver said.
"Except you won't, because for one thing, from what I hear, Sara is head over heels in love with someone else, which is not something I ever thought I'd say about her by the way, but also, you're a different person than you were last time. All I'm saying is, think about it. And promise not to shoot Roy if he proposes to me." Thea said.
"As long as he asks me for permission first, that shouldn't be a problem." Oliver assured her and Moira rolled her eyes, but smiled as the three Queens continued to talk.
