Chapter 20

"Wait, so you're saying that the goddess who lives inside you says that we need to prepare to fight the actual god of war?" Roy asked his girlfriend after she told him and Ryan about her talk with Artemis.

"Basically yes and Artemis doesn't live inside me. It's very complicated." Thea said.

"How do we prepare to fight the literal god of fighting?" Ryan asked.

"With help. Artemis did give me a starting point, including places we can go to find help and you won't believe where one of them is." Thea said.

"What is it?" Ryan asked.

"Atlantis. As in the kingdom that sank to the bottom of the ocean that is actually real." Thea said.

"Wait, how is that even possible? I mean countless expeditions have been launched looking for the city ever since the idea of exploring the oceans was made possible." Ryan asked.

"I don't know, Artemis was kind of cryptic in that regard and I didn't ask questions." Thea said.

"Why not?" Ryan asked.

"Because it's not exactly relevant to the mission." Thea said.

"Anyways, it sounds like there's more than one place we need to go." Roy asked, getting them back on track.

"Right, the other place is an island called Themyscira. Home of the Amazon warriors, created by Zeus as a last line of defense against Ares. It's complicated, but the island is hidden from the rest of the outside world, though Artemis might have told me about a way to find it. However, that's a solo mission for me, since apparently men aren't welcome on the island. Which leaves you two with the Atlantis mission." Thea said.

"And how do you suggest that we do that, since even if we knew where to look, there's still a small problem of how the hell do we get there, since we can't breathe underwater." Roy asked.

"Artemis might have provided a potential solution to that." Thea said.

"What kind of solution?" Ryan asked.

"The kind that also involves strengthening our ranks. A potential new member. One with the skills needed. Someone who's half human, half atlantean, since atlanteans apparently aren't considered human, though considering they do have superhuman abilities, I guess that makes sense." Thea said.

"Moving on, did she give you any information that can help us find this mystery person?" Ryan asked.

"Just a name. Zara Williams." Thea said.

"I'll see what I can do to track her down." Ryan said as he headed over to the computers.

"What about you, how are you going to find this island?" Roy asked.

"That should be easy, since apparently there's a map to the island in my family's art collection, which is why I'm heading back to Star City, since I need to visit my mom and make sure Sara doesn't steal my spot as Jasmine's cool aunt. Especially since Sara can give Jasmine presents from other time periods, which is an unfair advantage." Thea said and Roy rolled his eyes at that, since this was not the first time he'd heard Thea complain about that.

"Sounds like you got the easy job." Roy said.

"Not really. At least you guys know what to look for. Or who to look for. I have no idea which painting in my family's gallery I'm looking for." Thea said.

"Fair point." Roy said as their attention was drawn to the beeping of the computers.

"Well?" Thea asked as they walked over to Ryan.

"Well, I found her, but are you sure this is the girl who's supposed to help us save the world? I mean look at her record?" Ryan asked Thea, who chuckled.

"Considering who my brother is, I don't think I have much room to judge anyone for what their criminal records are, though it looks like Zara did not have an easy life. Her mother died in childbirth, no father listed, meaning that he had a one night stand with Zara's mom and then ghosted her. Looks like she grew up on the streets, since she had no family to care for her and the state didn't really seem to give a crap about her, since she bounced in and out of foster homes, none of them good ones by the look of things." Thea said, feeling bad for the girl.

"Does this thing happen to have an address on her current foster home?" Roy asked.

"No, but that's only because she's not living in a foster home right now." Ryan said.

"So she's on the streets?" Thea asked, thinking that would make things much harder.

"I didn't say that. I just said that she wasn't living in a foster home." Ryan said and Thea's blood ran cold as she saw where Zara was currently living.

"She's in Iron Heights?" Thea asked.

"Yep. For a long list of crimes." Ryan said.

"Stealing, breaking and entering, vandalism, petty theft and an illegal street fighter." Roy said.

"Reminds me of you when we first met." Thea said and Roy rolled his eyes at her, but couldn't disagree.

"Maybe I should go pay her a visit first, since not only am I an Argus agent, but I also have a similar background to her. Maybe I can use that to connect with her and get her trust, since something tells me she won't be eager to listen to a one percenter." Roy said and Thea nodded.

"Sounds like we've got a plan. Also, I've got something else I need to talk to my mom and Oliver about, so I can do that while I'm in Star City too." Thea said and Roy and Ryan both nodded as they continued to work out their plan.
