Chapter 18
"So, what do we do now that the big bad is defeated even though we didn't technically defeat him?" Ryan asked as he, Thea, Roy and Nyssa gathered in the Labyrinth after Oliver had left Ivy Town with Tommy in tow.
"If memory serves me correctly, now we get a few months of easy slam dunk takedowns before the next big bad shows up." Thea said.
"Can we even really qualify Ra's as our big bad, since none of us even fought him?" Roy asked.
"Yes we can. Now we can go back to trying to take down Machin." Thea said.
"And while that sounds like fun, I'm afraid that you'll have to do it without me." Nyssa said, much to their surprise.
"What do you mean?" Thea asked.
"First off, I want to confirm that the league truly did follow your brother's orders and destroyed the Lazarus Pit in Nanda Parbat and then after that, I'm going to do what we did in the old reality. I'm going to track down the other pits and destroy them as well." Nyssa said.
"Are you sure you don't just want to have Oliver entrust that task to the League?" Thea asked Nyssa, since she'd come to see the older woman as the big sister she'd always wanted, despite the fact that they'd once tried to kill each other.
"The only member of the League that I trust to any extent is Maseo and that is only because Oliver trusts him. The others however, I could tell they were displeased by the idea of removing the pit. I do not wish to inform them of the existence of others. Besides, we do not even know if the pits are located in the same places they were last time. This is a mission I must undertake alone." Nyssa said.
"Where are you even going to start? It took us nearly a year to find and destroy the extra pits and that was with the map Merlyn made. How are you gonna find them now?" Roy asked.
"Once I ensure that the pit has been destroyed, I'll find a mystic to convince to help me find them." Nyssa said.
"Are you sure you want to do this alone?" Thea asked her.
"Do I want to do it alone, no. But this time you cannot assist me, Thea, since you are needed here in Ivy Town." Nyssa said and Thea nodded, though she didn't like it.
"If you need any help, just call and we'll come. You'll always be a member of our team Nyssa." Thea said and Nyssa smiled at her.
"I will not be gone forever. I fully intend on returning once the Lazarus Pits truly are nothing more than myth." Nyssa said.
"I know." Thea said with a smile as Nyssa turned to face her.
"Thea, you have been more of a sister to me than my own sister ever was. Honestly, I don't know how you managed to forgive me for everything I put you through, but I am grateful for it." Nyssa said and Thea smiled.
"Nyssa, if there is one thing I've learned from this life, it's that if I held a grudge against every person he tried to kill me once, I wouldn't be on speaking terms with my brother or my boyfriend right now." Thea said, since she still remembered Roy's mirakuru rage.
"Fair point. But still, it's been an honor to fight beside you and to follow your lead.' Nyssa said as to Thea's surprise, Nyssa actually hugged her, a hug that Thea returned.
"Stay safe and come back in one piece. Otherwise I'll bring you back just to put you down myself." Thea said Nyssa chuckled.
"I'll keep that in mind." Nyssa said as she turned her attention to Roy.
"We've come a long way haven't we?" she asked and Roy chuckled.
"That would be the definition of an understatement. When we first met, there was nothing I wanted more than for you to leave, since all you seemed to do was bring trouble that nearly gets everyone killed with you." Roy said.
"That's fair." Nyssa acknowledged.
"But now, the idea that we're actually friends and teammates who trust each other, that's something that doesn't even surprise me now. We've both changed since then." Roy said and Nyssa nodded.
"It's been an honor to fight by your side." Nyssa said as she and Roy shook hands before Nyssa nodded at Ryan before walking out of the Labyrinth.
"So, think we can hold this city for long with just the three of us?" Ryan asked and Thea nodded.
"Ollie was able to protect Star City alone without even tech support for weeks before he brought John in and then again after Diaz drove the whole team away. Remind me to put an arrow in John for abandoning Ollie like that." Thea said to her boyfriend.
"Will do. I just wish he'd called us and asked for our help instead of trying to take Diaz down alone." Roy said and Thea sighed.
"Sometimes he gets so caught up in his own head that he does exactly what his enemies want." Thea said.
After she went to sleep that night, Thea found herself back at Artemis's island, the goddess standing in front of her and to Thea's surprise, Artemis actually looked stronger and healthier than she had the last time they'd met.
"You look better than the last time we met." Thea said and Artemis chuckled for a moment before her expression turned somber.
"Ever since I made you my vessel, I've noticed my strength and power returning to me, though it wasn't until recently that I discovered the reason for that." Artemis said.
"Well, don't keep me waiting." Thea said.
"I was wrong about what caused the other gods to die out. It wasn't because of lack of worship, thanks to human's obsession with the internet, there really is no shortage of people to worship us in some way." Artemis said.
"So what happened?" Thea asked, since she did agree with Artemis on that.
"I've discovered that there's still an Olympian living on Earth. One that I thought had been cast to the Pits of Tartarus eons ago." Artemis said.
"Who?" Thea asked.
"My brother Ares, the god of war. And he is coming for you." Artemis said, much to Thea's shock as she waited for the goddess to explain.
