Chapter 11
Nyssa was currently in her new dojo, since while it had taken her some time to figure out what exactly it was she wanted to do now that she was free of the League, at least for now, but in the end, especially after training Thea, she'd decided that she wanted to do a version of what she was already good at. Training. So, with Thea's help, she opened up her own dojo so that she could offer martial arts lessons. It helped that she was already well versed in all major martial art disciplines, including the primary ones that most dojos taught like tae kwon do, karate, kung fu, jiu jitsu and several others. There was also an apartment located above the Dojo so that Nyssa wouldn't have to live with Thea and Roy or have to sleep in the tunnels that made up the Labyrinth.
Thea had also offered to set her up with a security system, but Nyssa knew that her father would be able to bypass whatever system they put into place, so she decided that she'd take her chances and save Thea the money. Anyways, in addition to martial arts, Nyssa also taught self defense classes and the location she'd chosen was also one of the buildings that was over one of the entrances to the Labyrinth.
Anyways, she was taking a break, a luxury she'd started indulging in since she left the league, since if there was one thing her students had taught her, it was that the way the League trained, all day, with no pause, was not the correct method to train. If they did that, then she'd end up burning herself out. Taking breaks, allowing herself the benefit of leisure, that was the key to keeping herself in top form.
Anyways, she was currently drinking some water, since she didn't want to risk her father's lackeys jumping her while she was intoxicated when she heard the door open and turned to tell whoever it was that the dojo was closed for her lunch when she saw the person who it was and she found herself intoxicated in a completely different way.
"Can I help you?" Nyssa asked the young woman who'd just entered her dojo.
"That depends, how much you charge?" the woman asked.
"It depends on what exactly it is you're hoping to gain." Nyssa said, trying to stop herself from offering this woman whatever she wanted for free. God, she hadn't felt like this since Sara and like then, this was her falling for a woman she'd never met before at first sight.
"Well, I was hoping for private lessons." the woman said.
"Can I ask why?" Nyssa asked.
"Well, I'm a cop and while I'm not sure if you realize this or not and I'm probably not supposed to tell you this, but there's a new crew in town and well, they've proven difficult to stop, even with the new vigilantes helping out, though don't tell anyone I was praising them. My boss isn't exactly a fan of them. But anyways, the way these new guys fight, it's similar to the way I've heard some of your students fight. I thought that maybe you could teach me a thing or two that might help me stay alive." the woman said and Nyssa nodded.
"Of course and don't worry, your secret is safe with me. However, I will need a name to put on my schedule." Nyssa said.
"It's Helena. Helena Bertinelli." Helena said and Nyssa had to stop herself from freezing, since she'd heard that name before and honestly, as much as it pained her to admit it, she did have a type and not one she wanted. Her type was Oliver Queen's exes. Since yes, she had to admit that she had harbored a small crush on Laurel, but had never pursued it since it seemed in poor taste to date Sara's sister so soon after Sara had died, than their relationship had soured when Laurel used the pit to revive Sara, which led to her being locked up, though if she'd known then that Oliver had John Constantine, yes she'd heard of him, owing him a favor, she might have been more open to listening, though she would've insisted that Oliver be brought in before anything was done, but still.
"I'm sorry, did you say Helena Bertinelli?" Thea asked after Nyssa told her, Roy and Ryan about Helena's visit to her dojo.
"Did I stutter? Yes, it was her and I have to admit, I'm surprised I didn't recognize her." Nyssa said.
"And you agreed to train the Huntress. I thought Oliver already proved that was a bad idea." Roy said.
"Except for the fact that it's my understanding that the Helena of this universe is not the same person she was in the old one. She's a police officer now and honestly, I can understand her desire for vengeance against her father." Nyssa said.
"Yeah, that was one thing, it's why Oliver trained her in the first place, he thought he could help her. But that didn't end so well, since she was undisciplined and full of rage." Roy said.
"And so were you when Oliver met you if I'm not mistaken." Nyssa retorted, making Roy flinch.
"Enough. Nyssa, you really think that Helena's different this time around?" Thea asked.
"I can pretty much confirm that she is." Ryan said as he looked up from his tablet.
"What do you mean?" Thea asked.
"I've known Helena was a cop from the beginning and one of the first things I did in this reality after I woke up in it was look into her, make sure that she wasn't dirty and she's not. See for yourself." Ryan said as he handed the tablet to Thea, who took it.
"According to this, the first thing she did after she turned 18 was go to the cops and the FBI and sold out her father. Got herself an immunity deal after her father and the entire Bertinelli syndicate were taken down, then she took her inheritance, or what was left of it and moved here for a fresh start." Thea said.
"Oliver will be happy that one name is already crossed off his list." Roy said and Thea nodded.
"I know you have your reasons not to trust Helena, but give her a chance." Nyssa said and Thea nodded.
"Well, I can't really stop who you let train at your dojo, plus it would give us a way to keep an eye on her, make sure she's not breaking bad and if she really has changed, who knows, maybe we could succeed where Ollie failed." Thea said, since they could actually teach Helena to be a hero and not just a thug, she could finally meet her true potential.
