Chapter 28
Donna sighed as she and Garth got home from Zara's parent teacher conference, since it had not been a pleasant conversation, since she and Garth had only had custody of Zara for a few months, whereas she'd been living on the streets and with gangs her whole life, so it was hard for her shake that mentality. According to her teachers, Zara had been getting into fights, skipping her classes, becoming a real handful. She was honestly very close to being expelled.
"What are we going to do about Zara?" Donna asked Garth when they got home.
"I don't know. I know we're trying to give her a happy and normal life, but maybe we've spent too much time enabling her." Garth said as they entered the kitchen and could hear Zara playing video games in her room.
"We're still new to this whole parenting thing and we're already facing our first real challenge." Donna said.
"We could start by grounding her and taking away privileges. No more phone, tv or gaming systems." Garth said, since Zara had already become an xbox addict.
"Maybe. But I don't think that will be enough. As much as I hate to say it, maybe we should see if Dick can use some of his cop contacts for a scared straight thing?" Donna asked.
"No, Zara's already lived through juvenile detention before, it won't be effective with her. Especially since she's started to develop your strength and my powers." Garth said and Donna nodded.
"Then I am not sure what to do about her." Donna said as Garth handed her a glass of wine as she leaned back against the wall.
"Well, I can think of another option, but I'm not sure how you'll feel about it." Garth said.
"What is it?" Donna asked.
"We could send her to your sisters. I'm sure a few weeks with the Amazons would set her straight. Especially since there's no tech there and no boys." Garth said.
"You don't just want to send her away to get her away from the boy she clearly thinks she's seeing behind our backs." Donna asked with a slight chuckle.
"I can't deny that is a bonus, but come on, you know that your sisters would help Zara put her temper to better use than what she's currently using it for." Garth said.
"I can't deny it would be nice to see her put her spirit to some more productive use, but I think that's a little extreme." Donna said.
"I think it might be time to start thinking in extremes." Garth said.
"Well first, before we start resorting to that, I'm gonna go and actually try and talk some sense into our daughter." Donna said, since while she was willing to send Zara to Themyscira, she wanted to give Zara one more chance. Regardless of whether or not she deserved it.
When Donna got to Zara's room, she knocked on the door, hearing music playing.
"Zara, open up, you have five seconds before I remove this door from its hinges, you are in big trouble young lady." Donna yelled, since while she wanted to give her daughter another chance, that didn't mean Zara wasn't in trouble and Donna's anger grew even more when she heard the clear sounds of Zara trying to hide someone in her room and before she could do anything, the door slowly opened, revealing Zara's nervous face.
"Hi mom, how was your meeting?" Zara asked, already having a feeling about what was the source of her mom's bad mood.
"Nice try, let me in and tell whoever it is you're hiding to come out before your father and I tear every electronic device out of this room and sell them off for how much we paid." Donna told her as Zara reluctantly opened the door all the way so Donna could come in.
"Mom, please don't get too mad, I can explain everything." Zara said.
"Not another word until the boy you're hiding comes out." Donna said and Zara sighed.
"It's not that simple." Zara said.
"Why is that?" Donna asked as Zara looked over at her closet.
"You can come out." Zara said as a young teenage girl with pure black hair, pale white skin and dressed all in black walked out of it and Donna realized what was going on.
"Rachel, meet my mom. Mom, meet Rachel Roth. My girlfriend." Zara said nervously.
