Chapter 7
Did anyone else hear that the CW might finally be giving John Diggle his own show and to that I say, it's about time. The show is called Justice U and it's about Dig once again stepping into a mentor role like he once was for Oliver and is for Barry and the others. I know the CW has let shows like this flop before even giving them a chance like with Green Arrow and the Canaries, but I think that Justice U might actually have a chance at being picked up for one reason. David Ramsey. He's the only former Arrow star who's still an active participant in the Arrowverse today and something tells me that all the fans love of him and his character John Diggle will cause the CW to actually pick the show up, especially since it provides opportunities to wrap up other plotlines like Mia being in the present and how John became Connor's adoptive father in this reality. And now on with the story.
One last thing, due to a suggestion I got a few weeks ago, I've decided against making Barbara Gordon Team Arrow's tech support. Instead, I've come up with a new plan that involves both new and old but underused faces in the Arrowverse. Hope you like it.
The next few days were a blur to Oliver. After the welcome home party, he and Laurel quickly presented themselves to the courts where they were declared legally alive and they also officially put all of the paperwork through regarding Jasmine, since even though they'd already filled it out during the plane ride home from China, the paperwork wouldn't be legally valid until they were legally brought back from the dead.
Thea had spent the last few days before she had to go back to school spoiling her niece in every way possible and trying to make sure that her niece liked her more than her father. Not that it worked, but that didn't stop Thea from trying, though Oliver had made her swear to wait until Jasmine was older to tell her any stories about him growing up, just because a lot of them weren't exactly what he or Laurel would call child friendly and Thea had agreed to that.
Anyways, now that Thea was off at school, Moira had decided it was her turn to have time with her granddaughter, which was fine with both Oliver and Laurel, provided that Laurel was with them, since Jasmine still was not comfortable being left alone with anyone who wasn't her parents, plus, Laurel wanted to be there to reign in Moira from spoiling her daughter too much, since while she knew that Moria wanted to make up for all the years she'd missed spoiling her granddaughter, Laurel didn't want her daughter to be too spoiled. Plus, it gave Oliver an excuse to check out some locations for both his community center and more importantly, a base of operations. He and Laurel had agreed to put off house hunting for a little while to let Jasmine get used to being around their family first.
Speaking of which, as Oliver arrived at a potential location, he smiled as he found someone else waiting for him.
"What took you so long?" John Diggle asked him and Oliver chuckled as he hugged his brother in all but blood.
"Bad traffic." Oliver said.
"You know, when someone knows you're lying, you're terrible at it." John said and Oliver chuckled.
"Well I better get back into the habit, since this time around, I plan on keeping all our identities secret." Oliver said and John nodded.
"On that we agree. I know you only revealed your identity out of necessity last time, but now we have the upper hand on Diaz and can stop him before he does anything." John said and Oliver nodded.
"John, it wasn't your fault." Oliver said, knowing what his brother was thinking.
"Oliver, I should've been there with you in the end. You're my brother and I wasn't there when you needed me." John said.
"John, you risked your life to come to purgatory to find me." Oliver said.
"You'd do the same thing for me." John reminded him.
"In a heartbeat. But John, I know you had trouble accepting that I was going to die, but I knew it was going to happen because of a deal I made with the Monitor during his Elseworlds. I traded my life for Barry and Kara, since they were supposed to die saving the world from Deegan, but I wouldn't let that happen. They are the best of us." Oliver said.
"No Oliver, you are the best of us. You always have been. You've always been the one to make the hard call, the call that Barry and Kara, the call that they can't bring themselves to make. There's a reason we all look to you to lead and that reason is because you're the one who will always make any sacrifice required to save the people you love. Hell Oliver, you gave your life to bring back everyone. And this world is a better place because you're in it. The world doesn't just need the Green Arrow. It needs Oliver Queen and I think that's why you got another chance." John said and Oliver smiled.
"Maybe, but I'm not gonna look for a third one. John, I need you to promise me something." Oliver said.
"What is it?" John asked.
"I need you to promise me that if I die again, you won't try to bring me back and you'll stop anyone else from doing it. We've both seen what happens when nature isn't allowed to take its course through Thea and Sara and it's not pretty. Besides, I've already cheated death too many times already. While I'm in no rush to die." Oliver said.
"You don't want to come back after you do." John said.
"We've messed with the natural order of things enough as it is. Promise me John." Oliver said and John sighed.
"As much as I hate to admit it, you're right and I promise I'll honor wishes, even if I don't want to." John said and Oliver nodded.
"Thank you. Now, back to why we're here. Did you do your research on the rest of the team?" Oliver asked him.
"Yep and the only member we'll be able to recruit is Rene, since Roy and Thea are in Ivy Town, Curtis and Felicity are in Keystone and there is no trace of Dinah existing anywhere." John said.
"You, Laurel, Rene and I will be more than enough firepower, what we need to do now is find someone to take Felicity's place, since we'll need mission control." Oliver said.
"Lyla has already provided files on a few potential candidates." John said as he handed Oliver the files.
"We'll take a look a these while we see if this will suit our needs for a base, along with my plans to turn the building into a community center." Oliver said and John nodded as they headed inside the building.
