Chapter 4
A few days later found Oliver, Laurel, Jasmine, Moira and Quentin all on board the Queen Family's private jet heading home.
"Dad, can I ask you something?" Laurel asked as she pulled her father to the side.
"Yeah, of course." Quentin asked.
"Where's mom? Why didn't she come with you?" Laurel asked and Quentin sighed.
"Look Laurel, your mother and I are not speaking terms right now. After you and then Sara, our marriage kind of just fell apart. She turned to work and I turned to booze. Then after I got help, she still pushed me away and even moved to Central City. I tried more than once to patch things up with her, but she made it clear that it was done, which honestly is fine by me, considering the fact that when I tried to call her to ask her to come to China with Moira and I, she didn't even answer her phone." Quentin said and Laurel sighed.
"So, mom's job apparently means more to her than the fact that her daughter is alive. Nice to know where her priorities lie." Laurel said, though honestly, that didn't surprise her, since honestly, one thing that seemed to be consistent about her mother in both realities was that she always tended to put herself above her family.
"Well, something tells me that getting a granddaughter might bring her around more." Quentin said.
"Yeah, unless mom can provide some kind of assurance that she's actually going to stick around and not just bail when it's convenient for her, I don't want her anywhere Jasmine." Laurel said and Quentin sighed.
"At least she'll get a grandmother in Moira." Quentin said and Laurel smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, in fact, I bet Moira's probably thinking of all the ways she can spoil Jasmine right now and I'm going to need to ask her so I'll know where to set a limit, since while I love Oliver, I don't want Jasmine to be like he was growing up." Laurel said.
"To be fair, I don't think he wants that either, which does earn him some serious respect in my book." Quentin said.
"I'm surprised you're being so civil with him." Laurel said.
"Well, I suspect that if I'd flown off the handle at him like I'd originally wanted too when the gambit went down, I wouldn't be seeing you or Jasmine any time soon." Quentin said.
"Trust that instinct. That's right." Laurel promised.
"Good to know. But honestly Laurel, I don't have a problem with Queen anymore. He proved to me that he's a changed man and he kept you and Jasmine alive on that island. I can't be mad at him when he does that." Quentin said.
"So you have a heart after all. Does that mean that you'll give him your blessing when the time comes?" Laurel asked and Quentin chuckled.
"Since I know you'd say regardless of my answer, yes, I will, so long as it's not too soon, since I think that you two should get used to raising a daughter with the rest of society and readjusting to all of that before you think about marriage." Quentin said.
"Don't worry, I agree." Laurel said, since she and Oliver had actually just gotten back together and it was too soon to think about marriage. Though she had to admit, the idea of becoming Oliver's wife did make her smile, especially since in this reality, it seemed like it was very likely that was going to become a reality at some point. And they'd already have a flowergirl ready.
Meanwhile, John Diggle was currently in his apartment back in Star City, currently doing research. Not on anything related to his career or leisure.
"What are you looking at?" Lyla Michaels asked him as she entered their apartment, since thanks to the fact that even before J'onn restored their memories, or rather restored his, since Lyla had retained hers due to being the Harbinger and she'd also retained some of her Harbinger powers somehow. Lyla had said that after she woke up in this reality, Novu had visited her and told her that the reason she already remembered the old realities was because what was left of her harbinger powers after the Anti Monitor controlled her was used to preserve her consciousness, but she still retained trace amount of those powers even in the new world and she was told that those powers would grow with time, though hopefully she'd never need to use them.
Anyways, the reason Lyla was already living with John in this reality was for the same reason they'd gotten back together in the old reality. Oliver Queen. John's second tour of duty had been Oliver's first and somehow, the man had managed to give him sound advice telling him that while it was okay to look for his brother's killer, he shouldn't let it consume him, otherwise he'd miss out on a lot in life. John had taken that to heart and had decided that pursuing Deadshot, while it would always be important, wasn't worth sacrificing his life for. And by that he meant his personal life. So, the next time they were both stateside, John had decided to patch things up with Lyla and now they had even gotten remarried. Something that brought a smile to John's face, especially since now he knew that some things would never change. Especially the fact that Oliver Queen would always be his brother in all but blood.
"Doing some digging into the team, since with Oliver and Laurel coming and I'm assuming that both of their memories are like ours, so we're gonna need to get the team up and running." John said.
"And what have you found?" Lyla asked.
"That the only two members of the team that we can recruit are Roy and Rene." John said.
"Why? I know about Felicity, since she's running a tech empire in Keystone, but what about the others?" Lyla asked.
"Thea's off at school in Ivy Town and Oliver would kill me if I suggested getting her to drop out of school just to be a team member. Curtis works for Felicity in Keystone and I can't find any record of Dinah existing anywhere. I guess since we have Laurel, we don't need another Black Canary, but still." John said.
"And honestly, something tells me that Roy will not be sticking around in Star City. At least if he wants Thea to give him another chance." Lyla said.
"And how would you know that Thea remembers?" John asked.
"I have a hunch. Plus, I'm the director of Argus and the Harbinger, I know all." Lyla said.
"Right." John said, rolling his eyes at that.
"Come on, we better get going if we want to make it time for Oliver and Laurel's welcome home party. And hope that he has a plan to fill the ranks, since while you, he, Laurel and Rene can protect the city, you'll still need someone to run mission control." Lyla said.
"I'm sure he'll have a plan. He always does." John said and Lyla smiled at seeing the faith John had in his leader again.
