Chapter 10

Oliver was currently looking around his newest property, which was a formerly abandoned building in the glades, trying to figure out exactly how he was going to format this community center when he heard someone walk in.

"Can I help you?" Oliver asked without turning around.

"Actually, I was hoping I could help you hoss." Rene Ramirez said a grin as Oliver turned around to see his old friend walk into the building.

"Was wondering when you'd finally show up." Oliver said as he and Rene shook hands.

"Sorry, but I just got back from my tour with the Navy and this time, I was honorably discharged. Got a medal and everything." Rene said.

"How did that happen?" Oliver asked, only half kidding.

"I'll tell you when I figure that out myself." Rene said and Oliver chuckled.

"I trust you won't be pushing your luck and re-enlisting?" Oliver asked.

"Who do I look like, Dig, no. My place is here, especially since I don't trust Laura around Zoe." Rene said.

"You kicked her out yet?" Oliver asked, since he was well aware of the drama that had gone on with Rene.

"Did yesterday after I found proof that she'd been using while I was gone. She was Zoe's only parent while I was risking my life for this country and she couldn't even give up her drugs for that. Honestly, I'm half amazed that I didn't come home to find Zoe in foster care while I was gone because Laura got shot by a dealer again or even worse that Zoe got hurt or killed because of her addiction. She's not an influence that I can have in my life or in Zoe's. I'm planning on scheduling a hearing with a judge to finalize it, I just need a lawyer." Rene said.

"I may know a good lawyer who can help you out." Oliver said.

"Laurel? Does she even have her law license back, since I'm pretty sure it was rescinded when we all thought she was dead." Rene asked.

"She got it back a few days ago." Oliver assured him.

"Then, yeah, I'd love to finally get to meet the woman you, John, Felicity and Quentin never stopped going on about." Rene said and Oliver rolled his eyes.

"She's looking forward to it too. She's even said that you're the only one who she can justify betraying me back in the day since you just wanted your daughter back. Honestly, it also means that she likely won't be giving you a ton of crap about that like she still is John." Oliver said.

"Wait really? I thought they were close, since didn't he go to prison to atone for his role in her death?" Rene asked.

"He did, but the reason she's pissed is because he's a soldier and unlike you, he didn't have a good reason to forget his loyalty. He's been with me longer than anyone else on the team, my most trusted ally and yet he turned his back on me just because he was mad he couldn't wear a green suit. Her words not mine. John and I did bury that hatchet awhile ago. Still, it's very entertaining to watch her yell at someone who's not me." Oliver said and Rene laughed.

"I bet. So, what's the deal with the rest of Team Arrow?" Rene asked.

"Actually, right now it's just us, Dig and Laurel, since Curtis and Felicity are in Keystone, there's no trace of Dinah anywhere and Thea and Roy are in Ivy Town." Oliver said.

"So, we got no tech support." Rene said.

"Yet. We're still going through options. But anyways, what brings you here?" Oliver asked him.

"Was wondering if you were hiring here. After all, I figured you'd benefit from my wisdom." Rene said.

"What wisdom. You know I only kept you around because you can take a punch." Oliver said.

"Funny. And yet I seem to remember pulling your ass out of the fire once or twice." Rene said.

"A fire you put me in." Oliver reminded him.

"Please, we both know you were no better when you were first starting out. Only difference is that I had someone to watch my back and teach me not to make those mistakes. Not that I ever listened." Rene said.

"You did when it counted." Oliver said.

"Anyways, yes or no on a job?" Rene asked.

"Of course man. I could use someone who actually grew up in the Glades to help me with this. Especially since this community center won't just be for kids." Oliver said.

"Good. Because a lot of adults could use a safe place that's not a bar." Rene said.

"Yeah, opening up a nightclub, not my best choice." Oliver said.

"At least you admit it." Rene said as they continued talking.
