Chapter 16
Before anyone asks, the actress who plays Abby Sawyer is Madelaine Petsch. The same actress who plays Cheryl Blossom in Riverdale and yes it is intentional.
"So, what do you think?" Laurel asked after she showed Oliver, John and Rene her bunker.
"Well, it's nice." Rene said.
"I know, probably not what you were expecting." Felicity said.
"To be fair, this was Laurel's base, not ours." Oliver said.
"Maybe it would be best if for a new team, we have a new base. A new bunker." John said.
"Honestly, that is not unexpected. I have to admit, it would feel kind of weird transferring leadership of this place to Oliver." Laurel said.
"How about this? I'll talk to Cisco about building us a new base, but in the meantime, we'll keep using this place as a base of operations." Oliver said and Laurel nodded.
"Where are you thinking this new base would be?" Felicity asked.
"Not sure yet. But one thing I know is that we're not operating from shadows anymore. Star City needs to know that they have actual protectors, especially the Glades, since we all know there's been a lack of justice there." Oliver said and all of them.
"And who the hell are you to decide that?" a new voice asked as they saw two more women, who Oliver recognized as Dawn and Abby, walked in.
"Dawn, Abby, this is my boyfriend, Oliver Queen, and you know John Diggle and their old military buddy Rene Ramirez and as of now, Oliver is now the one in charge of this team." Laurel said.
"And why the hell should we believe that a complete stranger is capable of leading us, especially since he's just another one percenter." Abigail asked.
"A one percenter with more combat training than everyone in this room." Felicity said.
"You think that just because you were in the military you have more qualifications than us?" Abby said.
"Not just the military. I was also trained by the same man who trained Laurel's teacher, not to mention I've had some experience with the supernatural, courtesy of a man named John Constantine." Oliver said.
"Wait, as in the self proclaimed master of the dark arts?" Abby asked.
"More like he's a drunk asshole, but he still knows how to back up his talk." Oliver said.
"How much experience with magic do you have?" Abby asked, wanting to get a feel for how much experience this guy had.
"I know that Lian Yu is a nexus chamber and so is Star City and yes, I know what Nexus Chambers are. I've also encountered something that I believe is called the Khushu Idol. Ring any bells?" Oliver asked, trying not to smirk and so were Laurel, Dig and Felicity.
"That is some extremely dark magic." Abby said.
"I know, I saw its effects first hand on Lian Yu. Speaking of which, John, you need to make sure that thing is still in Argus' custody, I do not want to deal with that crap again." Oliver said.
"Will do." John agreed.
"But you beat it." Abby asked.
"At the cost of a friend's life. I saw that thing corrupt the user's mind and soul into madness and I had to kill them to prevent them from becoming a monster." Oliver said, telling her a version of the truth.
"I admit, that does earn you some credit in my eyes. Not many people could see that kind of thing and stay strong. You survived something most people couldn't. An encounter like that. But still, there's something about you. A kind of aura or residue on you. It's powerful. Unlike anything I've ever seen before." Abby said and Oliver and John exchanged looks, since Oliver had a pretty good idea of what that was about.
"It's a power I found on Lian Yu. Or maybe I should say it found me. It's called the spectre." Oliver said.
"I thought the spectre had to be dead?" Abby asked, since she'd done some research on that.
"Technically, he was." John said.
"What are you talking about?" Abby asked, since Oliver looked alive and well to her.
"It's hard to explain." Oliver said.
"But it needs to be explained, to both of them, if they are to trust in your leadership, and they must." a new voice said and Oliver, Dig and Felicity all groaned at the sight of Mar Novu standing there.
"I thought we were finally done with this asshole." John said.
"We're not that lucky." Oliver said.
"You know this guy?" Dawn asked, entering the conversation for the first time.
"Unfortunately." Oliver said.
"The kind of power I'm picking up from him, its very similar to the kind of energy that's coming off you Oliver." Abby said.
"That's because they're both the power of gods." Novu said.
"Abby, Dawn, meet Mar Novu, aka, the Monitor, though all he ever does is cause problems." Oliver said.
"The fact that Ms. Sawyer could detect this kind of power from me indicating just how powerful your magic truly is. And that makes it all the more essential that she follows and trusts you. And there's only one way to ensure that will happen quickly. She must know the truth. In fact, both of your new teammates must. After all, a team cannot exist without trust." Novu said.
"What is he talking about?" Dawn asked, clearly confused.
"He's going to show you another world. A world that explains how we all know each other and why Laurel, John, Felicity and Rene trust me to lead them. And I'm hoping that afterwards, you and Abby will trust me to do that too." Oliver said, wishing that he didn't have to do this, but he knew that it had to be done, since he'd dealt with insubordination within his own ranks more than once before and it always backfired. He wasn't going to allow that to happen again.
"Do it." Oliver said and Novu nodded as he snapped his fingers and suddenly, both Dawn and Abby received huge headaches as they were brought up to speed on everything Oliver had done for Star City in the old reality.
"You're the reason we're all standing here right now." Abby said, looking at Oliver with newfound respect.
"I am. And Dawn, I assure you, Felicity is all yours, I'm more than happy with Laurel." Oliver said, knowing that Dawn had also seen his and Felicity's past.
"Good. But now that I know what you're really capable of, I'll follow you." Dawn said and Oliver nodded as he turned to Abby as Novu vanished.
"And you?" Oliver asked.
"Now that I know that you can really back up all this talk, I'll follow you too, as long as you agree that all medical decisions made by me are final." Abby said.
"Deal. And I promise one of my first orders of business as the Green Arrow is to get justice for you and your father. I'm gonna make sure that Thomas Blossom pays for his crimes." Oliver said.
"Thank you." Abby said as she actually smiled at Oliver, knowing that he was a leader she could follow.
