4. Hearts will go on

About five minutes later, Haider pulled the blanket from over him and looked around in the dimly lit room. The wardrobe door was slightly open, but the main door was shut. He wanted to check if Amaal was up in the top bunk, but he easily dropped the idea. There was a switch above the bedside table. He switched it on, and a yellow bulb illuminated on the wall behind him, above his bed. Then, he pulled out his laptop, and for the first time in his life, he got into a social media website. He hesitated, but then got into the process of making a fake account. It was proving difficult. He made up a random name, Amaar. No, a girl will be more approachable. So, Hunar.

Haider sat, nibbling the inner corner of his mouth, his fingers hovering over the keyboard and gaze darting over the screen. He just couldn't decide what details to fill in.

As he was about to type something, he was distracted by a guitar tune. He frowned and tried to focus on the task he had.

Then, again the music continued. It came from down, but it echoed very well in the silent night. Involuntarily, Haider's got distracted by the tune. It was a beautiful melody of Titanic's iconic song. He stilled and began to enjoy the tune. That moment, he missed playing his piano. He was passionate about music and now, he was deeply enjoying the music that was being played. It seemed like someone played from their heart, it pulled on his heartstrings and realized his eyes were moist.

Slowly, Haider closed the flap of the laptop and walked towards the balcony. He adjusted the muffler and placed his hands into his pockets. As he approached the marble railing, he could hear the music growing louder. He peeped from the balcony and was shocked to find Amaal sitting at the edge of the fountain. She had worn a woolen night robe over her PJ; also, she wore sneakers. He noted how she was totally immersed in the music with her eyes closed, eyebrows furrowed. Haider reluctantly agreed that he was enjoying her music. The pain and sincerity in her were reflected in her music. He could feel connected with her, through music. It very much mirrored his mood.

He didn't how time flew by so quickly and realized it only when the music stopped. He looked down and watched, Amaal making the guitar stand at her feet, and then, she pulled her legs up, then she wrapped her arms around her legs not before glancing at something at the back of her wrist. She rested her chin on her knees and rocked slightly on spot. Minutes later, Noori walked towards her and sat beside her. Haider watched the ladies talk for some time and then he walked back into the room. He sighed, sitting on the bed. His mind kept playing Amaal's music in his head as he popped some pills. He made an internal prayer that his night terrors shouldn't embarrass him.

Alina sat at the dining table and worked on her laptop. She sighed, blinking her eyes several times, and removed her glasses with one hand. Her eyes hurt with all the staring at the screen. She pushed the laptop away from her and leaned her head back. Meera walked in from her room and glanced at her friend.

'Hi!'

Alina looked up and found her colleague stand before her with a pencil stuck into her curly bun. She was dressed in loose kaftan top and black pants.

'Hi!' Alina replied in a weary tone. Meera walked up to her and held her shoulders. She massaged her shoulders and Alina thanked her.

'You want me to make you a cup of coffee?' She suggested. Alina smiled and held her hands, she made Meera stand beside her.

'I will make both us a fresh cup of coffee.' She said and got up. Meera sighed happily and sat on her friend's place.

Ever since, Jahangir has over-taken the business he has overburdened the staff, even the interns. He pretended like he knew what he was doing but everyone secretly knew that he was clueless. Even though he had set up the business, he had gotten used to the care-free and lazy life in the US where he enjoyed the company's expense.

Alina got two cups of coffee and walked towards the table. She placed the cups on the table and was about to sit when the doorbell rang. The girls turned to look towards the door. Alina opened the door and gasped in shock upon seeing her parents on the other side. Her mother leaped and swept Alina off her feet. Meer shrieked and then, let out a sigh of relief when she found out the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Hooda.

Khalid was a little awkward but Asmat gelled well with Meera. The girls were slightly embarrassed because they were in their casual clothes. Alina suggested she made tea for her parents but Asmat instantly declined and instead, readily got into the kitchen to make tea for themselves.

Meera sat on the single sofa, while the parents and Alina sat on the double sofa with Alina in the center.

'So, Uncle where is your luggage?' Meera asked curiously. Khalid smiled and revealed that he and his wife have left their baggage's in their friend's house. They will be staying there. Alina was disappointed and quickly, she side hugged her father. Meera watched them with starry eyes, while Asmat chuckled.

After some time, Meera excused herself to give them some family time. After, she left Alina felt uncomfortable alone with her parents. She gulped, fidgeting with her bare ring finger. Her parents knew about her broken engagement but didn't know the real reason. Asmat placed a palm over her shoulder and gently squeezed it. Before anyone could say anything there was a sound of the doorbell. Alina got up to open the door.

Why do I feel, there is something more to Amaal than what shows *hmmm*
