Reviving Spring✅
As Mei stepped out of the portal, she found herself surrounded by a lush forest. The air was fresh and cool, and the leaves rustled gently in the breeze. Mei breathed in the scent of pine and looked around in wonder.
This.
Is.
Beautiful.
"So this is Spring," she sighed quietly, her eyes taking in the vibrant colors of the flowers and the buzzing of the insects.
This is why they say that during the Spring the world as we know it is reborn with fresh colours and new life. In the distance, a line of trees stands tall and proud, their branches reaching towards the sky. Birds chirp happily, flitting from branch to branch as they gather materials for their nests. She took a deep breath, feeling the warmth of the sun on her skin and the cool breeze in her hair. Ethereal.
As she walked through the meadow, she noticed a bubbling brook, its crystal-clear water winding its way through the grass. Tiny fish dart back and forth, their scales sparkling in the sunlight. On the far side of the brook, a family of deer grazes peacefully, their delicate forms blending perfectly with the natural landscape. The peaceful silence of the meadow is only interrupted by the occasional hoot of an owl or the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Overall, the beauty of spring scenery lies in its simplicity, its gentleness, and its abundance of new life. It reminds us to slow down, take a deep breath, and appreciate the natural world around us.
"But something is not right," she said.
The once-cool breeze was harshly replaced by hot and humid air that quickly made the once-blooming flowers shrivel up. Instead of the cheerful chirping of birds, the buzzing of mosquitoes and other pests that thrive in this newfound heat. The fish and other aquatic life in the vast rivers suddenly started struggling to breathe, seeing as their rivers, ponds, and lakes were drying up.
The world was quickly changing, and the effects were becoming very clear.
Mei wandered around the dying trees and plants until she heard a small voice crying. She turned a corner until she nearly tripped over an object that was the size of a chihuahua. This small creature had orange blossoms for hair and a caramel complexion; her facial features were delicate, with two big, brown, round eyes, a small nose, and a tiny mouth that was crying out for help.
"What's wrong, little creature?", Mei asked quietly, but the creature did not answer.
"What is your name?", Mei tried to ask again, but the creature did not answer.
"What are you?", Mei asked for the last time and gave up when, surprisingly, the creature did not answer but just continued to cry.
Mei picked up the creature, who made no fuss, and started to cradle it like she usually does with her baby sister.
"I have a sister."
"I have a mom and a dad."
"I miss them so much."
"Why am I even here?"
