unexpected

I raised my eyebrow at him. I was ready for a challenge; a new adventure, in which, I wouldn't be afraid anymore.

Luke Skywalker lightly flicked his hood from over his forehead. He outstretched both of his hands to meet the lightsaber, his lightsaber. The metal forming his right hand made a quiet squeal against the casing of the lightsaber as he curled his fingers around it.

He raised his eyes from his past and he looked to the future, to Rey and I, and then he threw the lightsaber over his shoulder.

My lips split. I looked to Rey, who looked at me, and we both turned back to Luke, only to step apart when he walked in between us and away from our confrontation.

"Master Skywalker!" breathed Rey in disbelief.

She and I followed him through the rocky terrain of the island Ach-To. We followed him, although, for his old age, he was agile, and we were greeted with what appeared to be a village.

Less than a dozen small formations of rock huts were set in an uneven circle on the edge of the island. Stones of various sizes led pathways around the village. Rey and I walked through the common area, passing a rack of decaying fish and averting the fire pit in the center. They were clouded with the idea of one man living on this island, alone.

The squeaking of a forged metal door scraping shut alerted them to where Luke had gone to.

"Master Skywalker, I'm from the Resistance," said Rey through the door. "Your sister Leia sent me. We need your help."

I tapped the door with my foot.

"Hello?" I asked.

We were met with silence.

"Give him some time, maybe?" I suggested, squinting at the door. "Let's get Chewie to break down the door and force him to listen to us."

"Sounds like a plan," agreed Rey.

Rey and I began the hike back to the Falcon. Halfway there, they passed the point where Luke had thrown the lightsaber, and decided I would retrieve it.

Less than a mile down from the edge of the cliff, the silver metal was spotted on the ledge of a short cliff. I ventured down the island and across steep ledges with only enough room for half of her foot to fit, I scratched my palms trying to grasp on the rock, leaving bloodied handprints on the rock. When I got close enough to jump, I leapt to the cliff, risking the danger, to save my hands.

Though I hadn't planned to, I didn't jump far enough, and just planted my feet on the edge. Wobbling for balance, I squeaked slightly. Unintentionally, I used the Force to propel myself forward and safely onto the cliff. I whipped my head from my hands to the ledge where I had almost fallen and I nodded, pleased, by a power I didn't know I could tap into.

Joining me on the cliff were three birds. They were varying mixes of orange and grey throughout their backs, though all their stomachs were big and white. Each shared a vulnerable look, due to their massive eyes and sketched frowns under their noses. They were cute birds, I decided, as they blinked up at me.

I didn't have to do much other than step forward to cause them to flee, squealing and squawking following them as they flew away. I scooped the lightsaber into my hand and hooked it onto my belt, opposite of my own lightsaber.

Placing my hands on my hips, I cast my eyes to the route back. I then stared directly up, the shortcut, which involved jagged cliffs, although too short to walk along, perfect size for my hands to fit on. Upper body strength within myself wasn't extensive, though could be tested.

"May the Force be with me," I joked softly.

I spread my feet apart. Clapping my hands together, I shook them out as I let them fall to my waist once more. I focused on my breathing, in and out, I felt the Force flowing through me and through the space around me, and I felt the connection. I raised my hands, rejoicing in the slight tingle throughout my toes and the tips of my hands, and I jerked them down.

I went flying into the air. I had underestimated what little was necessary to move my body, and I went flying above the island entirely. On the fall back down, I was screaming, wriggling endlessly in the air. The rapidly approaching grass caused me to push my hands in front of my body; I hadn't noticed I closed my eyes, but when I came to an abrupt stop, letting out a deep groan, I had to open my eyes.

The Force and myself, working together, let me stop falling just above the grass. I released the breath I hadn't known I was holding and I plopped to the grass. Sighing, I let my face fall against the grass.

"Enna?" asked a voice.

I flicked my head up to see Rey and Chewbecca standing above me. I nodded at them, raising my hand slightly, then got to my feet.

"You okay?" chuckled Rey.

Together, Rey, Chewbacca, and I continued to the village where Luke Skywalker inhabited.

"Tapped a little into the Force. Went flying," explained Enna briefly.

"Sounds rather exciting," said Rey.

I raised my eyebrows, conveying a simultaneously unimpressed and shocked look to the other woman. Instead, I asked, "You ready to see your old pal, Chewie?"

He let out a signature roar.

Two knocks, Rey had decided, this time.

"Go away!" yelled Luke.

Rey and I looked towards Chewbacca. He broke the door down, sending it flying across the room. He stepped in first and roared at Luke.

Luke deaged forty years. "Chewie, what are you doing here?" he asked, a shocked, harsh tone coming from his voice that he hadn't shared with Rey and I.

"He said you're coming with us," said Rey.

"How did you find me?"

"Long story. We'll tell you on the Falcon."

"'The Falcon?'" repeated Luke. He observed the subtle lowering of the eyes from Rey, the sigh from myself, and the heartbroken whine from Chewbacca. "Wait. Where's Han?"

"He was murdered," I told him.

"By who?"

"Kylo Ren."

Luke walked past everyone and into the fresh air. The smell of the ocean and the wet grass mixed with the crashing waves against the cliff side and the yelling of the Porgs... It had become home to him. It had become relaxing background noise, after all that had happened to him. He sat down on a rock.

"There's no light left in Kylo Ren. He's only getting stronger. The First Order will control all the major systems, within weeks," said Rey, following after him. "We need your help. We need the Jedi Order back."

I raised my brow. "What?"

Rey turned to question her.

"We came her to get him to train you and I, that was the mission here," I told her. "When did the Jedi Order come into the equation?"

"The Jedi Order were Guardians of Peace and of Justice and if he led them, if he led us..." suggested Rey. "We could find a way to beat the First Order."

I made eye contact with Luke. "For the record, I wasn't aware about begging you to start a new Order."

"We need Luke Skywalker," said Rey.

Luke scoffed. "You don't need Luke Skywalker."

"Did you hear a word I just said?"

"You think I'm gonna walk out with a lasersword and take down the whole First Order?" snapped Luke.

"It's a little bigger than just you can handle," I agreed. I flashed a look at Rey, asking her to stay quiet while I bargained. "But you knew him. You trained him. If we take him down, if we get Snoke down... We might have a chance to rid the galaxy of the First Order. But we need you to train us. You train us, you help the Resistance, you help your sister."

"What did you think was going to happen here?" asked Luke, standing. "You think I came to the most unfindable place in the galaxy for no reason at all?"

"You came to run!" I shouted. His eyes hardened, and mine followed. "The Luke Skywalker I heard stories about wouldn't have cowered alone and wallowing about what went wrong. He would have done something, instead of hide. Where's that Skywalker?"

Luke turned and exhaled a deep sigh. "Go away."

"I'm not leaving without you!" Rey yelled after him.

He continued to walk until he was but a speck in the distance.
