under the floor

Han paused the mutual interrogation to complete an inspection of his ship. Minutes passed, then he wobbled into the corridor, grumbling, "Some moof-milker put a compressor on the ignition line!"

"Unkar Plutt did that. I thought it was a mistake, too. It puts too much stress on the--" said Rey, alone, until Han chimed in with, "--hyperdrive." Their eyes narrowed, surprised at what the other knew.

"Chewie, throw them on a pod. We'll drop them at the nearest inhabited planet," said Han.

I snapped my eyes to meet Chewbacca's. "Do not touch me."

"We need your help," said Rey, over my threatening order to the Wookie.

"My help?" repeated Han.

"No, I don't," I interrupted. "Grant me with a ship, Solo, then I'll be out of your hair."

"We need to get this droid to the Resistance as soon as possible," continued Rey.

The words went in one ear and out of the other. Han walked the Falcon's halls, a destination in mind. I hesitated, for a long stretch of seconds before I said, "Luke Skywalker," which, as I guessed, made Han stop and listen.

"You are the Han Solo that fought with the Rebellion," said Finn. "You knew him."

"Yeah, I knew him. I knew Luke," mumbled Han, a faint sadness in his tone. An elaboration was cut, due to a rough shake of the ship. Chewbacca and Han fell alert. "Oh, don't tell me a Rathtar has gotten loose..."

After the duo followed Rey, Finn, BB-8 and I. Exiting the Falcon meant walking into Han and Chewbacca's current ship, a dusty old freighter with dozens of ships stored in the hanger. Han led the group to the hallways, where he stopped at a corner, engaging his attention in a screen that monitored the halls of the freighter.

Panicking, Finn said, "Did you just say Rathtar? You're not hauling Rathtar's on this freighter, are you?"

"I'm hauling Rathtar's," said Han casually. "Great. Guavain Death Gang."

"What's a Rathtar?" asked Rey quietly.

"They're big and they're dangerous," said Han.

"Ever heard of the Trillia Massascre?" asked Finn.

"No," said Rey.

"Good."

"I've got three of them going to King Prana," explained Han.

"Three? How did you get them on board?" asked Finn.

"Used to have a bigger crew," said Han shortly. He crouched, opening a floorboard similar to the smuggling ports on the Falcon. "Get below and stay there until I say so."

Rey and Finn crawled under the floor. They would obey any command given to them by Han Solo. I couldn't. He may have been a known legend, but there was no experience in my life that made so-called legends trustworthy. Wary of my droid's safety and my duty to Poe, I inquired where BB-8 would stay while we hid.

"Stays with me until I can get them out, then you can have him back and be on your way," said Han.

Finn's head popped from the floor, cutting me off. "What about the Rathar's? Where are you keepin' them?"

On cue, a dark pink tentacle smacked the window beside us. Finn and Rey flinched. I stared into the apparent cell, watching the tentacle peel from the window.

"There's one," sighed Han.

"What do you plan to do?" I asked, skeptical of the old man. "The Gang outnumbers you."

"Doesn't matter. I plan to do the same thing I always do: talk my way out of it," said Han. A wail from Chewie caused him to point a finger in the Wookie's face. "Yes, I do. Every time!"
