24. First Love
"How's Roberto doing?" Leo asked as he entered the room along with Anna.
"Alive, I guess," Roberto jested answer looking at them. "Anna, how are you? I heard you're shoulder started bleeding."
"I'm fine, Roberto. I should be the one asking about your well being. You took a bullet, how are you feeling now?" Anna said as she strolled towards him and sat beside him on the bed to where he was laying.
"I'm feeling really good. Been long since I didn't take the bullet shot, the pain was nostalgic." Roberto answered and grinned wolfishly at her.
"Trying to act tough! Huh!" Alesso commented.
"I am tough. Tougher than you." Roberto retorted cheekily looking at him.
"Brothers, you have to see this. You all will be shocked after seeing this. Ann—" Nicolo entered happily with his laptop but his word died in midway when he saw Anna inside the room. "Oh—Anna you're here too." Anna nodded at him.
"Nicolo, what is it that you wanna show us?" Alesso asked.
"Uh—nothing." Alesso narrowed his eyes and strolled towards him. He reached for his laptop but Nicolo quickly dodged away from him. "I'll show you all later," Nicolo said.
Anna assumed that Nicolo wants to talk to his brothers in private so she decided to leave at once.
"Roberto, take care. I'll leave now." Anna said as she stood from her place.
"Where are you going?" Leo asked.
"I want to see Severina. Do you know where she might be right now?" She asked.
"She's in the kitchen, preparing for dinner," Nicolo answered.
"Thank you, Nicolo. See you guys later." Anna glanced at Leo before leaving.
"I think Anna got the feeling that you don't want her here right now." Alesso indirectly accused him.
"That's not true! I should go and tell her now." Nicolo defended.
"I was just kidding!" Alesso said as he grabbed the back collar of Nicolo's shirt. "Now tell me what you were about to show us."
"Oh—yes!" Nicolo marched towards the bed and Alesso followed him behind. "This is what I was about to show you all." He said as he pressed the play button on his laptop. Nicolo showed them the CCTV footage that captured the fight between Anna and Sabrina. Leo went stiff when he saw Sabrina pointing the gun towards Anna but they were surprised to see how quickly Anna had unarmed her.
"Wow! Anna is really good." Alesso said staring at the screen.
"I know right! You should've seen her shooting guns, you all will be shocked." Nicolo said.
"I guess you don't need to worry about her protection, Leo. You've got yourself a fighter, bro, a very skilled fighter." Roberto said amusedly.
"No matter how strong she is, I'll always protect her," Leo said firmly.
"Yeah, and we'll always be by your side to protect her." Roberto smiled at him.
"And there's one more thing I need you all to see," Nicolo said and play the next CCTV footage. "Sabrina escaped from the front entrance without even being noticed."
"What the hell were our men doing at that moment?"
"That must be the moment when everyone ran down the basement. She must have got the feeling that it was impossible to retrieve his brother so she just quit it and took this oppurtunity to escape away." Roberto said thoughtfully.
"But Anna saw her coming down the basement." Leo creased his brows in thought. "Nicolo, can you get the footage of Anna chasing Sabrina?"
"Right Away!"
They watched the footage carefully and found out where it went wrong.
"She was misdirected. She followed the shadow of our man down the basement. So cute!" Roberto chuckled softly.
"Sons!" Antonio called out to them as he entered. Francis helps his father with the wheelchair. He rolled inside along with his brother and father. "How're you feeling, Figlio?"
"I'm alright, Papa."
"Rafael will be raging in anger at the news of his son's death but that doesn't matter. His death was inevitable." Marcus said expressionlessly. "Stand your guard on high, they'll do anything to revenge back." He warned quietly.
"We've got news! They're in the city, Harondales." Marcus informed. "When did they arrive? And what are they doing here?" Leo deadpanned and asked.
"Got the news that they've arrived this morning," Marcus uttered. "Guess they're on the search as well." He assumed.
"Then there is a high chance that we might cross-path each other," Nicolo said thoughtfully. "Why are all our enemies gathering in one place?" Nicolo murmured out loud.
"That won't be necessary, I'm sure that they will be trying their best to avoid cross-path with us and we'll do the same too," Antonio said. "Well, that's not important, we'll see to that when the moment comes. Now the real deal is why are these Harondale's looking for Anita instead of their sister." He shoved both his hands in his either pockets and stared at space, creasing his eyebrows together.
"Anita! Zio Romano's wife! Why are they looking for her?" Alesso asked rather in shocked.
"I guessed—" Francis trailed off, his forearms resting on the armrest and his finger nudging his temple. "—they have discovered that Anita might lead to their sister!"
"If that is so, then we have to get her before they do," Antonio stated solemnly.
"What if we find the only daughter of the Harondale's Empire. Are we really going to kill her?" Nicolo asked out of blue.
"Don't forget, Nicolo. We have Vendetta to pay back." Antonio reminded him gravely.
"I'm aware of that." He stated and became silent. He seems like he wanted to say more but chose not to spit it out.
"Okay, any update on that Lady, Rachel clearwater?" Marcus asked, drawing their attention towards him.
"Nothing! I've sent some of our men to California to search for her but still no news. They're still looking for her." Leo told them.
"Anita met with an accident and damaged her face thirteen years ago and Rachel turns out to be a Surgeon specialist." Marcus tried to put the pieces together. "What if Anita really did a surgery? And Rachel helped her to get a new identity?" He was in deep thought, then he turned his head towards Leo, "Leo, assign some of our men to look into Rachel's past life. Bring out the list of the people she was closed with during her stay here?" He told Leo to which Leo nodded at him.
Leo excused himself and strolled out to make a call.
"Nonno! Do we really have to kill the Harondale's daughter?"
"Nicolo, don't forget that this very family killed our only sister." Roberto hissed, annoyance clearly popping out in his tone.
"What I'm trying to say is that our family don't hurt the innocent and that's our family tradition."
"This is not about being innocent, Nicolo. This is about revenge. We have taken an oath to avenge our sister death, this is our vendetta. Don't ever forget about that." Roberto warned under gritted teeth.
Roberto was very close to Elena. He loved her so much, more than their parents. He was only four when Elena was killed. He was deeply heartbroken and her death left a huge gaped in his heart that made him to still remember to avenge his sister death to this very day.
"Calmati, Figlio Mio! We'll see to that matter when we find her." Marcus said quietly. Leo returned and joined them again.
"I gave them the command." He stated.
"Good," Marcus said. "I hope we find Anita through her."
"Where are you hiding, Anita?" Antonio said which soon faded into a whisper.

"Mom!" Sofia snapped her head towards the door and saw Fiona standing by the door.
"Is everything okay? You look lost." Fiona said as she entered the room and saw some photographs scattered on the bed.
"I'm fine, dear."
"You missed Dad," Fiona said softly, staring at the photo frame that was on her mother's hands. She sat beside her on the bed and engulfed her into a warm hug.
"Coming week is his 14th death anniversary and Anna's 18th birthday."
"You keep counting it!" Sofia exclaimed quietly after pulling away and Fiona nodded at her sadly.
"Don't ever let Anna know about it, okay! If she finds out that her father died on the very same day on her birthday, she will never celebrate her birthday again." Sofia said softly.
"I know Mom, don't worry she'll never find out about it," Fiona assured her.
"How's she doing, by the way? I know she's enjoying her weekend with her best friend but at least she could care for a call to her mother." Sofia crossed her arms over her chest and said. "Let me call her." She fetched for her cellphone beside her pillow. Fiona looked alarmed and stopped her mother from doing so.
"Mom! Look at the time, it's already going to be midnight, I guess they're already asleep. Don't disturb her. Why don't you call her tomorrow morning?" She suggested. Sofia being regardless of the truth, she simply agreed to her daughter and decided to give a call tomorrow morning.
"You're right, she must be sleeping now. I'll call her tomorrow then."
"That's better!" Fiona grinned widely and draws her attention to the photographs beside her. "I wonder how Aunt Rachel is doing?" She said as she picks up an old picture from the bed. "It's been seven years since she left. Do you still contact her, mom?"
"Sometimes, but she's very busy doing works and at the same time handling her husband's business. She hardly gets time. But we contact once in a while." Sofia answered.
"Okay now, go to sleep. We've got morning devotional to attend tomorrow."
"Oh yes! I totally forgot that tomorrow is Sunday." Fiona stood up from the bed, "Goodnight, mom. Sweet dream!" She curved down and kissed on her mother's cheek.
"Goodnight to you too, dear." Fiona straightened up and left the room. Right after she was out from the room, she dashed directly towards her room and fetched her cellphone from her bed and dialled on Anna's number. After a ring or two, Anna received her call.
"What happened, Fiona? Is everything alright? Why are you calling so late at night?" Anna said over the phone. She sounded like she just woke up from her sleep.
"I'm sorry to wake you up but listen carefully, if mom calls you tomorrow, tell her that you and Clary are having a good time."
"Clary?" Anna creased her brows in confusion. "Wait! You didn't tell mom the truth!"
"What do you expect? If we tell mom the truth, do you think she will just let it go?" Fiona reasoned. Anna was silent. "No, right! So we had to lie to her that you were spending your weekend with Clary at her family house."
"Okay, but what about Clary? Is she aware of that lie?"
"Don't worry, I informed her a while ago. She was worried about you. You better call her and speak to her."
"Okay, I will. How's everyone at home?"
"We're all good. So how are you feeling now?"
"I'm alright. Severina's been taking good care of me."
"She's a doctor—" Fiona saw Sarah and Jasmine entering her room.
"What're you both doing in my room so late?" She asked.
"I couldn't sleep."
"I'm wide awake. Who are you talking to so late at night? Is it Henry?" Sarah asked.
"No, Henry's probably sleeping. He's an early sleeper." Fiona rolled her eyes over and sighed.
"Your boyfriend is really boring." Jasmine chuckled softly at her.
"Anna, I'm keeping you on speaker," Fiona informed before pressing on the speaking. Sarah and Jasmine quickly hauled over the bed and came closer to the phone.
"Little sister, how are you?" Jasmine said in a worried tone.
"I'm fine."
"We're missing you so much, Anna."
"Me too—" Anna went silent for some seconds before continuing, "Sisters, I have something to share with you all."
"Yes, Anna, what is it?"
"I think I'm in love."
"Oh my god!" They squealed in unison.
"Leo and I are a couple now."
Even though they couldn't see Anna right now but they had the feeling that their little sister might be blushing really hard right now. But before they could say anything, Anna cut them out.
"I'll tell you everything when I return home tomorrow. For now, bye-bye goodnight." Anna said hurriedly and hung up. The three of them looked at each other and suddenly burst out screaming in excitement as they hold onto each other's hands and shuffled over the bed.

Anna was busy having breakfast with De Luca's family when she received a call from her mother. She excused herself and went to the kitchen.
"Hello mom, good morning. How're you?"
"I'm fine dear. I hope you and Clary are enjoying too much, didn't even care for a call to your mother." Sofia chided playfully over the phone.
"I'm sorry, mom. Please forgive me, pretty please." Anna tried her best to sound cute.
"You're forgiven, my child," Sofia replied dramatically and they both laughed over the phone. "Now tell me where is my little chatterbox, I'm going to give her a good hearing for taking you to the weekend without my permission."
"Oh—mom, Clary's not here. She's taking shower now." Anna didn't have any choice but to lie to her mother.
"Okay then, when are you guys coming?"
"We'll be arriving in the evening."
"Okay, have fun, my dearies. See you in the evening."
"Bye, mom." With that said, she released a deep breathed and hunged up the call.
"What's with the lies?" Leo asked as he came around from behind her and stood in front of her.
"My mother doesn't have the knowledge that I am here. My sisters lied to her saying that I am spending my weekend with Clary at her family house." Anna answered honestly.
"Come here," he gently pulled her closer to him. "You look sad! Is it because of the lie?" Anna hummed and nodded her head.
"I had never lie to my mother," Anna said.
"You're so innocent, Mio Coure." He looked down at her and placed a soft kissed on her forehead.
"Don't make a quick judgement, il Mio. You don't know me yet." She smiled at him. Leo couldn't help but chuckle softly at her cute Italian accent.
"Where did you learn that?"
"Ever heard about the word 'Google'?" She retorted back playfully.
"Il Mio! Obviously I'm forever yours, Mio Coure." Leo curved down and placed a soft kissed on her lips.
"Oh shit, I didn't see anything," Alesso shouted playfully, breaking their sweet moments. His hands covering his face from looking at them. Leo and Anna snapped their heads towards the door and saw Alesso and Roberto looking amusedly at them.
"Finally, you two are together. Congratulations, brother." Roberto smiled cheerfully and salute at him.
"I don't know why I'm hurt but I'm happy for both of you." Alesso clutched onto his chest tightly and said dramatically. "Anna, but please remember that you were my first love."
"Mine too, and not forgetting Nicolo as well," Roberto said frankly. "He has a huge crush on you."
"Are you guys being serious?" Leo narrowed his eyes on his brothers.
"No, we're just kidding. We're more than happy to have Anna as our sister-in-law." Alesso quickly answered.
"Roberto, why don't we share this heartbreaking news to our little brother? I'm sure he's gonna cry a river after hearing this." Alesso said dramatically. And right on cue, Nicolo came and joined them.
"What's going on?" he asked. Alesso strolled towards him and rested his one hand over his shoulder.
"Nicolo, I want you to brace yourself. I'm going to tell you a piece of heartbreaking news."
"What is it?"
"They are together now."
"I knew this would happen. Didn't I tell you both, we don't stand a chance. But I'm very happy for you Leo, congratulations!" Nicolo was happy for his brother and blurted out everything.
"Damn it, I was just trying to get playful. Do you really need to spit it out?" Alesso chided him quietly. Nicolo bit his tongue back on realisation and the three of them looked sheepishly at Leo.
"You! You! You! In my office right now." Leo deadpanned pointing at each one of them. Then the three of them threw a pleasing look at Anna to save them.
"What are you going to do in your office?" Anna asked.
"Nothing, I just need to ask them something," Leo answered.
"They're just joking. Don't you get their joke? They're just trying to get playful with you, am I right!" she glanced at three of them and they nodded at her immediately. "And moreover, even if it's a joke, I am happy to know that I was someone's, first love." She smiled at them warmly.
"You're my first love too—" Leo urged, "—and will be my last." He added and smiled at her. His brothers couldn't help but make noises at his comment.
"Oh—all of you are here!" Severina exclaimed as she entered the kitchen. "I want one of you to drive me to the market." She said and immediately all four of them looked away from her mother. Looks like none of them wants to go to the market. "Idiots, are you all ignoring your mother now?" Severina chided crossing her arms over her chest.
"Take Leo, he has never been to the market here." Nicolo pointed an accusation finger at him.
"Okay," Leo agreed readily. "Momma, give me the list. Anastasia and I will go to the market and do the shopping. You take rest."
"Here is the list," Severina said passing a sheet of paper to Leo. "These are for tonight's dinner."
"Dinner! So I guess there's no rush then." Leo smirked looking at his mother through his lashes.
"Tell me when you're done with the marketing, I'll send someone to fetch it." Severina raised an eyebrow. "If you're very busy then."
"No need for that, we'll be back soon." Leo shrugged and turned towards Anna.
"Let's go, Mio Coure. Let's get you some fresh air."
Always Smile,
Happy Virus.
