Chapter - 25
Sameera
I never expected him to believe me that easily. At least, I am glad he saved us a lot of arguments.
"But you must tell me what makes you so sure of your assumptions. I have got a partner-cum-boss to answer to." That I was waiting to come from him.
"Well of course. We will be needing wolverine's help anyway. You can call him to meet us right away. Go. I'll finish my meal till then."
I shooed him away and dug into my plate of tasty veg pulao and paneer butter masala. I need my energy reserve to last a long while today.
Everyone must feel like my mother raised me without table manners, looking at my eating form right now. Not that she did. Both of my parents are really strict on manners. But today's an exception.
After waiting in the parking lot for 40 minutes, wolverine decided to bless us with his presence. Arav says I have to present a strong point to convince him to help us. I chuckled looking at him taking meters long strides on the path. He is fit to give Hugh Jackman a strong competition for the character "Wolverine".
With the unforgettable frown on his face I saw yesterday, he told Arav, "It better be important."
Arav just nodded once and both their gazes locked on me. Arav said his new car is the safest place to discuss the matter.
Hence, without wasting anymore time, I went straight and got seated in the front passenger seat of his car. Arav took the back passenger seat and wolverine slid in the driver's seat wondering how could his magic fail? He isn't at fault though.
"Look, I know you must be wondering why your spell didn't work on me. Actually it did work. It just didn't last long. So don't doubt your skills. It's not you, it's me." I assured him of his capabilities.
"Last night I had a dream about Sapna being in that same empty dark room I mentioned yesterday to Ansh. I am sure he must have told you. That's why I previously thought that Sapna was kidnapped by Ansh. But she isn't. Then how come I had the same dream of her kidnapping again?" They kept staring at me like I am narrating a very uninteresting tale.
"Well not the same exactly. This time I saw two other people. Probably they are the ones that have imprisoned her. The female I saw had ghostly green eyes and she was able to hurt Sapna just with her touch. And the other one was a male vampire. Though I saw no symptoms but I already knew that he was a vampire when he entered the room. They were talking about getting rid of her soon. So I inferred Sapna is in danger." I explained my part.
Though Joseph didn't even twitch a brow. Was he that unaffected?
Clearing his throat, Joseph began, "First of all, I still couldn't catch how you broke my strongest memory wipe spell. And Arav you are going on a special training on professional competency of our field. Let's go." He just said and started the car.
Oh no you aren't leaving that easily.
"You think I am bluffing? Well for your kind of information, whatever I said is one hundred percent true. My dreams were correct the last few times consecutively, and they are true this time too. End of discussion." They turned to look at me again.
"Sapna is still kidnapped by a pair of vampires and a bad lady with ghostly green eyes, who are planning to kill her soon. So you will help me or else I will broadcast your supernatural secret live on my news channel. Do you get that?"
The look on Joseph's face told me he was about to crush me alive. But then Arav pleaded him with his puppy dog eyes. That's something new. And it worked.
Wolverine's expression softened. "Just this once. Then I am reporting you and your crazy friend to chief. Say what you want from me?" He asked looking at me.
I noticed the look of appreciation on Arav's face. And consequently a silent "Hmph" came from Joseph. Something's fishy in the air, which I'll consider fishing out another day.
"Nothing much. We just need to keep a close eye on the current Sapna who is living in the pack. I feel something is off about her since the last time I met her. The Sapna I saved and the Sapna who thanked me for the same seemed a little different now that I come to think of it clearly." I said.
"You barely met her twice. What sort of difference are you referring to?"
That came from Arav. He still isn't much convinced about my assumption.
How dare he doubt my instincts?
"I was the one who met her, not you. And you promised to not ask unnecessary questions. So don't interrupt."
To my surprise Joseph was attentively listening without any sign of irritation. Arav should learn from him.
"We will enter the pack with Joseph's magic to hide ourselves, and our scent. Then we just have to keep an eye on Sapna and I am sure we will find something for further investigation there. What do you say?" I asked and got two frowning, super cops. I bet they are not impressed with my plan of action.

Arav, Joseph and I are sitting inside Arav's car which is flying above Ansh's house. The car can fly on aeroplane mode and turn invisible. It also has autopilot feature. I am so jealous of Arav right now. Perks of being a Super Cop.
Joseph scanned the entire pack territory to find Sapna inside her room in the pack house. With thermal scanners we were able to see the individuals and their activities inside the house from outside. I want to steal this car away.
From the past 10 hours we noticed nothing suspicious. Everything was normal. Way too normal. And my partners were thinking what they should do with me for wasting their precious time.
"I believe she is just trying to lay low. Just a little bit longer. I bet she will show her true colours once the lights are out. Trust me." I injected to calm the irritation radiating from the two males.
"Sameera, please stop pacifying us. We agreed to help you on our own. Don't feel guilty for wasting our time. If you feel something is suspicious it's our duty to find the answers to your doubts. That's how the supernatural world works."
Really? Where have you been hiding all these supportive statements, wolverine?
"We can't overlook any suspicions of any individual. You never know what might be hiding behind the curtains. Now concentrate." Said Joseph.
I can't believe it's the same Joseph I met yesterday.
Wait! Can he read my thoughts?
"Yes, I can read your thoughts because of the spell I am currently using. With concentration I can read whoever's thoughts I want. More than one individual at a time. And thanks for the reminder that I need to ask you about those weird dreams of yours." Said wolverine.
"How did you know of my dreams?" I asked surprised. I haven't thought about my weird dreams since meeting him.
"Oh, no not you. I read Arav's thoughts. He has been thinking about them all day. Care to shed light on this not normal aspect of yours." He asked smirking wide.
I wonder when would I be able to see a genuine smile on his face, or even better, a hearty laughter. Wolverine only ever smirks or scowls or frowns.
I tried to glare at Arav for spilling my secret on the same day I told him, but it's not his fault completely. Noticing the curious looks I was getting, I took a deep breath and began.
"It all started when I was 10 years old. Just after my birthday, I started having nightmares. Till that day I was never able to remember my nightly dreams, but after that I would remember each small detail of the dreams I saw. I never had them on a regular basis. Most days I wouldn't have any dreams at all, but on irregular intervals I would have some weird dreams and often nightmares. They weren't bad until I started having the night terrors half a year later. Then came the sleep disorders, insomnia, sleep walking, sleep talking etc."
Both the men were paying full attention to my backstory.
"As the medications didn't work, a month before my 12th birthday, my parents consulted a well known psychiatrist who in turn consulted many other experts of her own field and some from similar profession. I was treated for more than 6 years, but nothing helped. So I decided to stop the treatment. A year later, my condition improved. I still followed most of the calming therapies like meditation, yoga which helped me in the long run." And I still perform those activities. But the frequency has decreased with time.
"My career became my first priority, and gradually the night terrors and sleep disorders vanished. Then I moved in this city and since then apart from the normal quota of weird dreams and occasional déjà vu, I haven't experienced a single nightmare, until now."
Why do they seem more interested in this story than they did on my theory about fake Sapna?
"The last three times, my dreams came to be my memory flashbacks which broke the memory wipe spell of Ansh and yours. But this particular one is no flashback. It's like I am inside Sapna's body seeing and feeling whatever she sees, hears and feels. And after waking up, my body aches like I had been crushed by a dozen giants." The aching part is new. I have never experienced physical pain after a weird dream or nightmare.
"I have a strong feeling that whatever I saw in my dream is true. Sapna is out there, kidnapped by those vampires and a lady with ghostly green eyes who can harm her any minute." I finished my story.
Never thought I would tell this to a complete stranger who I don't even like. I mean Joseph.
"What stuff do you usually see in your dreams?" Asked Joseph tilting his head to his left side.
Did he really believe? Wow. Usually I wouldn't mention this to anyone, but he needs to know. I just feel like I should tell these two super cops my dream land adventures.
"I usually see, um, okay, I don't know exactly what, but, I used to see werewolves at first. I had no idea what they meant until I gained Intel on the were-vamp stuff in my teens. My family turning animals, trying to kill me. Then came young girls, some of them being my friends, with graffiti butterfly wings on their back, very beautiful, those were fairies I guess. Then I started seeing pale skinned humans who would vaporize in shiny light, vampires of course. And once there was a person who had horns. He was no animal or monster, but he just had curved horns and had a very dark complexion, oh and bloodred eyes. And then..." I was interrupted by a beep that came from the control board of this ultra modern car.
"She's out of her room. Let's continue on your dreams later someday." Said wolverine.
I nodded.
Arav came closer and asked, "You mentioned you read a lot of werewolf novels. I think this might have affected your subconscious." Not him again.
"Arav, I can understand you want a logical answer and so do I. But I never read a single supernatural novel or story book, nor did anyone ever read them in my presence until I was 14 years old. The only supernatural beings I knew of back then were 'Ghosts'. So you may strike that point out."
Don't be shocked. Sports was my life back then. I have only ever watched sports channels or science fiction cartoons on television.
I turned from him to see Sapna get out from the pack house through the back door, while everyone else was asleep. We followed her.
She walked for a few minutes in to the woods, and thank the thermal scanners, we saw her stop before the south border of the forest. Then she moved her fingers and started levitating. She can't be Sapna. At all. For once I know, werewolves can't fly.
I knew both the Super cops beside me thought the same. Then turning invisible to the naked eyes, fake Sapna went flying in the sky. We kept following her in our car.
The thermal scanners made it possible for us to detect her invisible form. Cool right. After some minutes when she finally stopped near a warehouse, she turned visible and what we saw next was enough to arrest her on the spot.
The one who came to be visible wasn't Sapna. She was a slim lady wearing a black long sleeved gown from neck to bottom. She twitched her pinky and a small, black wand appeared on her right hand. She turned to look around to check for any unwanted presence (that would be us). But unable to sense our presence, she turned back and entered the warehouse.
"It's her. The lady with ghostly green eyes. It's her. I remember clearly. This must be the place where they are hiding our real Sapna so that this lady could take her place in the pack for whatever crazy reason. Let's get our real Sapna back." I urged the two super cops to follow my lead.
But they kept staring at me with a defeated expression.
"What?" I asked.
"I tried already. There is a force field around this place that's preventing us from entering. If we break in forcefully, they will sense our arrival and might as well hurt the real Sapna. We can't barge in just like that. We need a plan."
Joseph nodded to Arav's speech impressed of his patient observation. So was I. But what about Sapna?
"Fine then. Do your job. Formulate a full proof plan to rescue Sapna. Right now." I passed my verdict. I was not going to move an inch from here without taking Sapna with me.
"Well, don't worry. I already have one in my mind. Joseph agreed with me on this. But for that we have to leave for now. I need you to trust me." Arav said giving me his most confident and optimistic look.
But I don't wanna go back now that I am just meters away from her.
"Fine. Tell me what to do." I decided to go with Arav's plan.
I am pretty much out of ideas. Whatever Arav's plan is, I believe it will work. I trust him.
