Chapter - 22
Arav
Saying that I was surprised to see her in the pack house was an understatement. Guess that makes me right about her non existent patience.
I mean it's only been a month or so since we last met and I warned her not to take any stupid steps. Agreed, I wanted to meet her very soon, but not in these circumstances.
And judging by her rage filled 'angry young woman' expression, I bet this isn't gonna be a pleasant meeting. Onlookers would say she is surprised to the highest extents, but I can already feel the anger radiating from her towards me. Now, she won't listen to whatever excuse I had previously formulated to tell her.
"Hello, Sameera, how you're doing?" I asked to calm her a bit. Not that I was expecting her to calm down anytime soon. She won't until I am at her feet, begging for mercy.
"Sameera my foot. What are you doing here, Arav? You said you got a transfer, you never mentioned a promotion. The Super cop level promotion. Wait, actually it's not your fault. Because you never talked to me in the last 36 days, making me worried of your whereabouts every single day. For a while I thought you...... nevermind. It's not like you care what I think about you."
Actually I do care what you think about me. I held the sentence inside my mouth before it could slip out of my tongue. She was fuming with lots of rage and fury. It's not the ideal time for sweet talking.
I noticed all the eyes staring at us. The Alpha, his Beta and her wife who just arrived behind him, and my new partner with whom I came here to attend my first case as a Super Cop.
When Alpha Ansh called us to inform of a human who had discovered their secret, I wasn't expecting her to be Sameera. He mentioned that his trials to erase her memories failed twice. So he wanted us to handle her so that he could concentrate on his upcoming mating ceremony.
I learned not long ago, how important a mating ceremony is for a Werewolf, especially for an Alpha.
"Sameera, I'll explain everything, just listen to me once." That was meant to prevent her from shouting at me, in front of my partner who is also meant to keep a close eye on me and guide me as he has been working as a Super Cop for 10 years.
I am partnered with him as he is experienced and young. Well chronologically he is 38 years old by now, but physically he is still in his early twenties. How?
The first lesson I learned during super cop training was that in the supernatural community, age is just a number. Most supernatural species have a very long life span (vampires, witches and warlocks, angels, devils etc.).
Lesson number 2: Interracial marriages aren't a big issue in the supernatural community. Though unions between enemy species are impossible (werewolf and vampire, angel and devil etc.) until both parties possess half or more than half percentage of human genes.
My partner here is half warlock and half werewolf. He too is the result of a mate bond between his werewolf mother and warlock father. He is easy to work with, unlike some other super cops who think of humans are liability as Super Cops.
Being a human in the Super Cop job is like being the only puppy in a pack of super strong werewolves. Because Most Super Cops are Supernatural beings.
And right now I am being a miserable fail to all the human and non-human Super cops who believe in me. I mean a random human female is shouting at me on my first official case, inside an alpha's pack house who called us here to handle her, not the other way around.
"Explain! Look Mr. Arav Sharma, Super Cop or whatever, I am not scared of your threats. You are here to erase my memories, right. Well guess what? I changed my mind. I am not letting go of my memories so you can vanish out of the city unannounced again, making me believe you are working day and night to serve your country only for you to be erasing memories of many innocent humans as a Super Cop."
Uh oh.
She turned to the Alpha and told him, "I am leaving Ansh. Don't you dare try to stop me." She said and marched towards the door only to be stopped by my partner, Joseph.
"Pardon me young lady. You can solve your issues with my partner after we finish what we are here for. So please cooperate. I don't like to handle things the hard way. Go and sit on the couch, now." My partner growled the last phrase.
Joseph used his special intense voice on Sameera that forces anyone to follow his orders. That's The real reason I am partnered with him is so I won't disobey orders and do something regrettable.
"I won't. What will you do, wolverine? I don't take orders from Super cops who can't even treat me like a respectable human." Sameera roared, looking straight into his deep brown eyes.
Joseph is 6'5" muscular man with short black hairs, hidden claws, golden tan skin and a beard that looks like the 'wolverine' from 'X-Men'.
Though I don't know if he is particularly a fan of wolverine or him having the same beard style is just a coincidence. But he is no less dangerous than wolverine himself. I have seen him fight and trust me, you won't wanna be on his bad side.
But can someone explain that to this stupid, furious woman? Apparently not me. I saw Joseph's orbs darken which isn't a good sign.
And then something struck me. Why didn't Sameera do as he ordered her to? How come she denied his order. No one can do that as far as I know.
"Sit back in your place, woman. Believe me, I am treating you too politely for a human. So be a good little human and cooperate. You don't want me to be hard on you." He said with the same commanding tone. But Sameera didn't budge.
What's happening here?
And then someone intervened, "Excuse me, but you can't threaten her like that in my house. She saved my mate. Therefore she is entitled to my protection. You can't force your will on her. I won't let you manhandle her. If she doesn't want, then no one will force her to wipe out her memories. Hence, you may leave. We don't require your assistance." Announced the Alpha.
Saved his mate! What exactly have I missed?
I had asked my friend and former partner Satish to keep me updated about Sameera when he told me about their budding friendship.
Though the idea of them getting closer made me insanely uneasy. But I had to trust him to look after Sameera while I was gone. I had a feeling Sameera would do something reckless. And I was right. But Satish never mentioned something like that. Which means, I need to have a word with him soon.
"Thanks for your support Ansh. But I don't wanna bother you further than you already are. Arav, you wanna talk, let's talk." She said, waving her hand inward as if asking me to follow her.
She passed by Joseph, walking like a queen. Show off.
"Hey Partner, resolve your issues and convince her for the memory wipe, as soon as possible. I won't wait forever."
I nodded to Joseph's words, warning to be precise, with a confident smile that vanished not two seconds after I saw the angry young woman sitting on the chair in the far right corner of the front porch.
"It's good to see you again. How's work?" I asked her calmly to start a conversation.
"That's something I should ask you, Mr. Super cop." She humphed.
I am pretty sure if I touched her now, her skin burning in anger would melt away my fingers.
"Look Sameera, if you're gonna behave like a sarcastic interviewer, I don't know if I would be able to ever start a normal conversation with you." I told her.
"Normal conversation. Well I was waiting for you to have a normal conversation with me since 36 days. I have been waiting to have a normal conversation with you regarding the investigation you promised to carry out on your own. I have been waiting to have a normal conversation with you about why you never called me back, why you left me hanging when you knew how crucial and sensitive the matter was. You could have texted me that you are fine, doing well. You could have told me you found nothing suspicious in the forest and I would have accepted. But instead you left me hanging to fend for my own. I believed you to believe me when no one else believed me. But you disappointed me more than anyone ever did."
She kept blaming me, letting out her anger, pointing her index finger towards my face. Just an inch and she could have poked one of my eyes.
When she seemed to relax a bit, I released the breath I was holding throughout her blaming session and said, "I promise to explain everything. But will you first tell me what caused you to land in this situation in the first place?"
She sighed and started explaining bit by bit everything that lead her here, how she visited Ansh, how she helped an injured Sapna, how Ansh failed miserably in wiping out her memories twice and how she decided to make him confess his crime, which he never committed, but instead found this.
The most amusing fact was that Satish believed her assumptions without any solid proof and helped her carry out the so called sting operation for nothing. I bet he is trying his best to impress Sameera. He's been interested in her since he first saw her in the forest, with me. I should have never trusted him with this daredevil, stubborn journalist.
"So is Satish still waiting outside for you, cause I don't think I saw him there. Me and my partner came by that way." I asked.
If he is nearby, I would gladly go and beat him to pulp. How far can he go to impress a girl? The girl he was supposed to be looking out for.
"Oh, no he isn't. Before entering the pack house, I informed him that Ansh is no criminal and Sapna is here, safe and sound. I asked him to leave, though he was reluctant. I said if I didn't contact him within 24 hours then he can execute Plan- B." She said.
"What's Plan-B?" I inspected.
"That's none of your business. Now explain. How come you went from Police officer Arav Sharma to Super Cop Arav Sharma within 36 days? Did Satish know? Why did you never responded to my calls and texts? What happened that day? Tell me."
She asked with a concerned expression. She was concerned about me where as I should be concerned about her. She has been practically playing with fire all this while I was gone. And my dear friend-cum-partner, correction, ex-partner helped in her stupid plans.
What was she thinking? Oh, I know. She was thinking to help somebody she knows nothing about, and trying to uncover the truth. Typical Sameera.
