Chapter 17-I Know What You Came Here to See

I stared open-mouthed for a few seconds, the piece of metal digging into my skin from clutching it mega hard.

And then I remembered I was probably going to fall to my death unless I got out of here.

I gently placed the piece of metal into the insides of the caving vent and started in a crouch, my feet slightly tipping out onto the fall.

I didn't think twice before jumping.

My hand caught on a piece of wood. It was a warehouse, so I wasn't surprised there was an unfinished roof here. Especially since they probably spent a while on the soundproof room. I didn't bother looking down, knowing I'd just have to swallow the bile that would rise up on the sight of Tyrone. Instead, I spotted a window, probably leading outside. In a second, the wind caused a shadow of a tree branch to fall upon it, confirming my theory.

I stayed there, hanging on the wood ledge with my left hand as my right took a mini camera out of my utility belt, placed it on the corner of the ceiling ledge, and made my escape without them noticing.

"You stupid idiot!"

I smacked Aiden on the back of his head, causing him to slightly bend over. He didn't bother ducking, though my silent yet purposely noticeable steps should've warned him.

"Again!" I yelled as he rubbed the back of his head, before finally looking up to me with a sheepish smile. "Again!" I repeated. "Aiden Jake Thompson, I swear if you don't get your act together, I will-"

"Agent Ryder, do we have a problem here?"

I whirled around, and mentally sighed. Just when I was getting to the part about chopping his brains out. "No, of course not Director. It's everyday that we stand in your office discussing how your prized pupil let a prisoner go," I sarcastically said.

"Knowing you, you'd be out in the main lobby yelling about classified intel," Zack retorted dryly. He had his hands slipped in his- what do you know- skinny jean pockets and his eyebrow raised as he leaned against the door to his office. How he could fit a hand that big in a pocket that small would remain a mystery to me forever. I suddenly shifted my gaze to my outfit, which was ordinary gym sweatpants and a black tank top, before looking up.

I suddenly cupped a hand to my ear and leaned forward, my expressionless mask giving the air a serious aura. "Do you hear that?"

They both perked up, both leaning in as if trying their best to listen. I let them at it for a full ten seconds before saying, "Is that the sound of a sense of humor I'm hearing from Zack Archer?"

They both relaxed from their tensed up position, making me smirk at how disgruntled they both were. I bet Zack was two minutes away from pulling out his gun.

"Blake was there." I mentioned. Aiden's head whipped toward me.  Zack calmly turned his body around so he could easily face me, and slipped his hands out of his tight pockets so he could fold them just as Aiden answered with a "What?"

"I saw Blake with Finn while I was exploring the warehouse. I didn't get any intel because I didn't bother searching. The TrianOut agents were already suspicious about someone who wasn't supposed to be there being there. They were doing the faceless, robotic thing again." I nudged Aiden with my shoulder. "This one let go of Finn number two. Go figure. She was there too. Dale was off where ever. They were having a mini-meeting in a soundproof room with no furniture."

Aiden didn't bother protesting against my words. Instead he flopped down on the chair Zack favoured and closed his eyes, slouching slightly. Zack didn't bother commenting on the Blake matter, nor sparing Aiden a second glance. I guessed Aiden taking over his office was a normal occurrence. "Count."

"Tyrone and Alina Finn. Marien van der Meer. Deputy Blake. Felix Chugainov."

"Okay." Zack nodded slowly, as if processing the information. He didn't react to Blake's name yet again. "And Chugainov is the Russian, correct?"

I gave him a discreet nod in response. He nodded back, instantly continuing the chain of nods passed between us. I wonder how long I could hold it for...

"Marien is the Dutch. One of Tyrone's known 'acquaintances', as you put it," I mentioned. I snapped my fingers so suddenly that Aiden opened his eyes to peek at me, completely awake, before drifting off again in light snores. "That reminds me. They said something about setting Marien up in 553. Can we cross check databases in a day or two for any 553 agents resembling Marien van der Meer?"

"We can. But I doubt it would come up," Aiden suddenly spoke up. I twisted my neck ever so slightly to look at his slouched, lazy form. I hadn't even noticed the light snores had ceased. "TrianOut agents can change their face. It comes with the whole, brain wash thing."

"Agent Thompson," Zack hissed out a reminder. "You are not cleared to give out that information to Agent Ryder.

Instead of backing down, Aiden straightened up, his eyes gleaming from the challenge. "Oh? Says who? You? Because I don't see a superior here."

"Really?" Zack pushed himself off the wall and toward Aiden so he was a foot away from the chair he resided on currently. "Let's see if you can play I Spy properly when I demote your butt back to your petty high school."

Aiden let out a half laugh as he stood up, the corners of his lips twisting down. "Yeah, let's see what happens when I beat-"

I clucked my tongue. "Boys," I called, breaking their petty little fight. I swung a chair from my right so it's back was pressed up against my front and sat on it. "If I'm going to do this. I need to know everything you know about TrianOut."

They both stared at me, before swinging their heads back to each other simultaneously. They had somehow gotten so close to each other that their noses were practically squished together. They both did something that resembled a half snarl-half growl and turned away, stalking in different directions. Zack didn't look back as he exited his own office.

Of course, Aiden just had to trip over a chair leg, resulting in his fast reflexes saving him. He clawed on the desk, causing the contents to start rolling down. In a matter of seconds, he caught each of them, putting them back in their places and clearing his throat awkwardly. He looked around the room before his eyes stopped on my amused figure. "You didn't see that."

I raised an eyebrow, but didn't betray my expression. "No, I didn't." I pointed toward the camera situated on the left corner of the room, the one that probably fed information to the Government. "But they did."

He raised an eyebrow to match mine at my choice of wording. I could see the rusty gears in his head finally start to work before something clicked and he smirked.

Zack entered the room in a hurry, slamming the door behind him. He stomped right in front of me, not even bothering to look at me as he slammed a file down on the top of the chair ledge that was as thin as a quarter. The chair shuddered violently at the force, but I remained steady on top, not bothering to care a bit.

"Your new assignment until we find Meer," He said, acting more calm than last time. "Get to it. The Russians aren't getting hit themselves. And do me a favour, don't ask about Blake." His voice lowered an octave. "He's there for a reason."

He left the room with the final word. Aiden immediately crossed his arms, grumbling, "Why don't I get the file this time?"

I looked up to the camera, smiling slightly before washing away the remaining traces and looked down at the file for the first time, reading the proud title.

Level 9- TrianOut Intel File (Declassified)

***

I popped the last chocolate piece into my mouth and wiped my hands on the back of my skinny jeans - an old bad habit.

I stared at it as I chewed, contemplating whether or not to open the TrianOut file sitting a few centimeters away from me on the bed. I swallowed once, a brought the glass of water on my nightstand to my mouth, draining the contents as I shifted my view to the camera situated on the side corner of the room.

My jaw was set as I stared at the blinking light under the camera. I had already configured the camera so it showed an endless loop of me doing random things for six hours and then napping, waking up and leaving the room. The audio device planted under the camera couldn't be changed. They'd know something was wrong if the same noises came from the camera. I'm sure the Government wasn't that thick.

I brought the empty glass back down to the table and moved the folder into my hand without looking away from the stupid camera.

I opened the file to the first page and finally moved my gaze to the first page, which immediately attracted my attention. I skimmed a short summary detailing the contents of the first page - a list of agents directly involved in the matter - and then drifted through the names carefully.

A couple other names were listed below, most of which were in the teen division.

And then at the bottom:

RYDER, AMBER- Exception, Field Agent, Lead

-Field Partner: RYDER, AMBER

-To be used mandatorily in Code Shark

I let a satisfied noise from the bottom of my throat rise out, creating a strangled humming sound as I flipped to the next page to receive a paper cut in return.

I made sure the file was steady in my lap as I leaned down and patted the bottom of my bed causing the last chocolate bar I had stored there to drop onto my hand. I ripped the wrapper off silently and stuck the edge of the bar into my mouth, not bothering to snap the pieces off. My attention was brought once again to the page in front of me, which was basically paragraphs detailing the TrianOut takeover of the 533 base - code named Aquatic - and how it happened. The TrianOut agents probably had someone on the inside, according to the report, and they entered the base causing a shootout between the two rivals. In the end, TrianOut somehow took over the base using a device 553 named Dimensional Lever. What the device does, along with the last three lines, were blacked out.

I frowned, making a mental note to drag Aiden into his room - where he had somehow taken the audio and camera down without raising any red alerts - and tell him to explain.

But I guess I didn't need to. The next page was a diagram of how the device should look according to what it does, and on the bottom, was a six sentence paragraph written in tiny, miniscule letters.

Project Interdi or Dimensional Lever can be used in a largely populated area. It's main purpose is to send a interchangeable signal that hits the people already experienced with Anuzantation. The signal bounces off the surrounding walls and charges every solid object. Within a five to fifteen second span, the signal bounces off the walls again and meet the charged objects, instantly hitting the people in the designated room. This causes a vibration in the body which feeds information to your brain, causing what is usually known as brainwash. This project is located ---

The location of the place was blacked out but the sentences after that were readable.

-The signal rewrites the half of the mind left so that it completely rewrites DNA according to what information the user has fed the Lever. This device does not affect person(s) who have not gone through anuzantation. Anuzantation is filed under 'UNIVERSES'.

My eyes widened drastically as I choked on my piece. Universe?

The door slammed open and my head whipped toward it just as armed men and woman in navy blue burst into the room, the words Unit Containment coating their bulletproof vests, and waved their guns in my direction. They created a small path so that a muscled woman with mocha coloured skin could walk in. She was dressed in a pair of light grey adventure shorts and a black tank top with the words 'Every Man For Themselves' planted on top.

She took off her sunglasses and pushed them into her black, messy ponytail, smirking in my direction as she did so.

"Amber Ryder, you're under arrest for treason."

A/N: I'm a person that says 'yo' too much.
