Pune- Queen of the Deccan (Part 2)

In the next century, yadavas of

Devgiri ruled the ripe punewadi

Until thirteen seventeen when Islam

Arrived from Turkic roots of khilji.

With a new tughlaq fire on Delhi's throne,

Blood watery vein borne took the deccan

Queen in her infancy and enclosed her;

Betrayal from own ranks- Bahmani stage,

Strangled rage, spark from tungabhadra's banks

And one became five; five a holy mess-

Temples of old reskinned to sufi shrines,

Brahmins, traders and farmers outcasted

But sahyadri like a benign father,

Southwest monsoon in pockets, like chocolates

Circulated among children all same

To dress the deccan soil in its black fame.
